Summary: A great violent film
Review: This film at first seems to be a Tarontino rip off but infact it is actually a smart dialogue propelled movie with an excellent array of characters and a brilliant cast to play them . Steve Buscemi once again steals the show as the hardest hitman in the world Mr:SHH . Christopher Lloyd and Walken also both stand out as does Treat Williams as the crazy Ex - con . The script is brilliantly written and the number of plot twists make it all the more fun to watch .

Summary: Most Underrated Film of Recent Time
Review: This is one of the most memorable gangster films in recent memory. Although not in the same epic scale of The Godfather or GoodFellas, the extremely original characters (Garcia, Treat Williams and Christopher Lloyd in particular), the excellent performances, the sharp dialogue, the quick & effective Buscemi action sequences, the offbeat and surprisingly romantic love story in the film, and the soulful nature of film's messages makes the small film surpass The Godfather and GoodFellas, in which Coppola and Scorsese close any outside world outside of the mob and make essentially evil characters look like decent, honorable people. But director Gary Fleder boldly separates the good and the bad in this miracle of modern cinema. Andy Garcia, probably the most underrated and underappreciated actor of our time, is awe-inspring when he pulled off his complex role off without getting the impression of over-acting or the adjective "over-soulful". I do not understand some critics when they say Andy Garcia was miscast. I cannot think of anyone else who could pull off his awfully difficult, honorable character. The only actor which comes to mind to fill his shoes is Al Pacino, but his known aggressiveness nowadays would not have suited this film, but maybe the younger Pacino could have been. Andy's exotic accent makes the film's pace flow at the right pace, and his "Afterlife Advice" words at the end of the film will forever be in my heart. This film's messages reminds of "Magnificent Seven" and "Seven Samurai", and it enrages me further when a film like "Pulp Fiction" gets a thousand times more praise when its only redeeming effectiveness is its offbeat quirkiness and dialogue.

Summary: Superb!
Review: Some of the best dialogue I have ever had the pleasure to stumble on. Actors who deliver it flawlessly. Characters so memorable that they will enter the private language between you and whoever you see this film with. I wish I hadn't missed it in theatres.

Summary: Things hits the bullseye several times, several ways
Review: I found Things to do in Denver When You're Dead an interesting movie with many zany, well-developed characters (especially Treat Williams's whacky ex-con and Christopher Walken's smoldering mafia don). In fact, 'Things' starts off like a hip, retrograde version of 'The Magnificent Seven' as Walken's pointman Andy Garcia goes about recruiting a motley "crew" of ex-cons to pull-off one last job. But 'Things' seems to run out of steam as the movie goes along, and the body count and the obscenities rise higher than the creativity it started out with. And the romantic scenes between Andy Garcia and the female lead are contrived and don't seem to fit the weirdness of the entire film. Otherwise, 'Things'is a modestly creative flick that hits the bullseye several times, several different ways.

Summary: Denver is Gangster Limbo, last stop before judgement day.
Review: I love this movie, but admittedly, it's not for everyone. It's bizarre, and very violent, but very human at the same time. Picture a small community out west like an updated "Hole in the Wall" for former hoodlums. There's the Narrator, underplayed beautifully by Jack Warden in a surprise role. He holds court daily in an ice cream parlor, giving us the blow by blow about this guy, Jimmy the Saint, soulfully portrayed(and perfectly cast)by Andy Garcia who is on the brink of his ultimate and final disaster. This family style restaurant serves as a backdrop and sets the tone for the ultraviolence that ensues. There's "Pieces", played by Christopher Lloyd of Taxi fame. His moniker suits him well, because little bits of his body are simply, falling off, one small piece at a time. His farewell speech to Jimmy the Saint, asking "Have you ever danced in the moonlight with a thousand dollar hooker" is worth the price of admission. And Treat Williams who has been wasting his time and talent on TV Movies, outrageously stands out in the truly quirky hotel room scene, his finest work by far in years. Another cast member who never fails to deliver is Christopher Walken. This time he out-evils his gangster role in True Romance, as he devours the scenery from a wheelchair. These Damon Runyon characters done Denver style all appear to be misplaced - all waiting and hiding from their inevitable demise - and one is more eloquent than the next. Having seen and done it all, they know their time is imminent. How they face it is the key. Surreal reality at its finest. I watch it again and again.

Summary: A story of honor, love, and ultimately loss.
Review: Here we have a story about a criminal that makes it out, but is pulled back into the fray. His loyalty to his friends and the love that he feels for the woman he's just met. It is a story of loss. Violent yes, but in that world what else is there. I thought it was brilliantly written and acted. good flick nuff said.

Summary: a highly underrated and underviewed film
Review: Andy Garcia is not in the least miscast. He is excellent as the flawed hero, who is seen as a better man than he sees himself. Snappy dialogue with its own vernacular. Has a lot more heart and an appreciation of God/true love/immortality/what's important in life than anything by Tarantino. An altogether great guy movie. Loved it.

Summary: This is one of my all-time favorites!
Review: We'd all like to be as cool as Jimmy the Saint, Garcia's once-hard New York gangster turned Rocky Mountain business man. His past catches up with him as loyalties to ex-cons interfere with his quest to do the right thing. The exceedingly witty dialog shines as we are brought in to a world of jailhouse orphans, where all you may have to defend yourself is words, but once fists and bullets start flying, no one's word means a thing. Walken and Buscemi are excellent and don't miss Jenny Macarthy's cameo as Walken's sauna servant. Denver is starving for big-time gangsters, and this two hour fantasy is so much fun.
