Summary: Extremely, etremely great film
Review: The first time I saw this movie, it totally tore me apart. I thought that it was just so amazing. The creator of this anime did a reeeeeeaaaaally good job with everything. I've seen it a million times and each time, I've cried. It really impressed me. If you're studying WWII in USHistory, I suggest watching this movie to see a different side of the Japanese side of the was than what is seen in textbooks and in class.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Incredibly moving
Review: The only movie that I ever cried after viewing. It may seem a little pretentious or self-depricating, but it's understable considering it's based on a semi-autobiographical novel.

A good choice to show that anime isn't just big robots, big guns and bigs breasts.

Summary: A possibly great movie ruined by english language dubbing
Review: I sought this movie based on the strong reviews and serious subject. But hearing an adult American's breathy baby talk *totally* broke the spell of reality that Setsuko needed. No emotions could sink in when the audio constantly rang false. I'm sure a subtitled version of this tragic story would have had a deep effect. Having real Japanese people from recent, desperate times running around sounding like Californians in a recording studio made me recoil in disgust.

Summary: A deep and thought provoking movie
Review: This is a sad movie. It is a movie that will hopefully leave you thinking for days after the screening. War is never a good thing. Sometimes it is necessary, yet it harms both the right and wrong side. Of course, which side one is on is a matter of perspective. This is a story of WWII from the Japanese perspective. It is no matter now who shot who, who bombed who, and so on. It is a matter of history. Anyone who can come away from this movie without shedding a tear is a hardened person is all I can say. The only reason I don't give this movie 5 stars is that it does not meet my watch it again and again test. Thus it merits 4 stars only. This is not a disparagement of the film. Every human being on Earth should see this movie. It tells a story which we all need to hear. Perhaps this would help us to think clearly when the time comes to fight. Perhaps it will make it a bit harder to commit our lives and loved ones in battle. As I said before, War is sometimes necessary, but it should never be easy.

Thanks Jim

Summary: The most profound, moving experience possible through film.
Review: I have viewed Grave of the Fireflies five times on DVD since purchasing it a month ago. It is a seemless classic. I have searched and searched for any flaw I could find in this film and I couldn't find a single one. From every frame of animation and every work spoken, Grave of the Fireflies is a masterwork. Animation(5 stars)Voice acting in Japanese(5 stars)musical score(5 stars) well I could go on but you get the point. You feel like you are in the movie while watching certian scenes as the film is very patient in its pacing. It forces the viewer to get a feel for every scene and the emotion although it never seemed forced. The flashback scenes were some of the most beautiful pieces ever seen on film and the score only enhanced that. There are some silent moments too, it's not a constant barrage of music but only when needed. This is a very smart film that if anything, tricks the viewer into paying attention and ultamatly caring deeply about the characters to the point where their tragity feels like your own. The most tragic thing that can happen is if viewers deside to over look this masterfull film.

Summary: Great story!
Review: AWESOME! Grave of the Fireflies is one of the most powerful shows that I have seen in my life. Although it's not that long, you do get to know the characters enough to feel what they are experiencing.

The animation is excellent and the dubbing is great. This show is made for people who need a break from huge robots and sword fighting. Be sure to get this video for your collection! This one is probably more adult oriented, though great for young adults too!

Summary: Powerful Story, Sad Movie
Review: This is perhaps the saddest movie that I have ever seen and it is certainly one of Japan's most powerful anti-war statements.

While the animation is fairly solid, the movie was not intended to dazzle the eyes, with the noted exception of the tear ducts.

Those hoping to stumble upon another Ninja Scroll or Ghost in the Shell are barking up the wrong tree, yet open-minded fans of those anime greats should be able to expand their horizons and appreciate this movie for what it has to offer: a gripping tale of WWII Japan and that War's blameless victims.

Summary: The most anime...er MOVIE I have ever seen period.
Review: Words cannot begin to describe what I feel when watching Grave of the Fireflies. I just watched it on DVD for the second time tonight and I cried even more ON THE SECOND VIEWING! Of course I watched the subtitled as all of you should. This movie proves that animation can be art and that you can depict touching drama without breaking the 3 hour mark as most american oscar winners do. This movie should have won best picture in the Oscars but of course life isn't fair. See this movie.

Summary: I Loved Grave of the Fireflies!
Review: Oh my god! This is one of the best Japanese animated movies I have ever seen! Two fragile children trying to surive in postwar Japan. The older brother does everything to keep his sister alive and well. I shed many tears for this one. This proves that all wars lead to is despair.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Heartbreaking work of art
Review: This is without a doubt the saddest movie I have ever seen, animated or otherwise. You become involved in the story and quickly forget that it is "only a cartoon"--the characters are real and human, and it is this human aspect that prevails throughout the film. There is no nudity, sex, or extreme violence depicted in this movie; simply a great story that you won't forget.
