Summary: A BRUTAL BUT OUTSTANDING FILM
Review: Sadly this gem of a movie is largely overlooked in the Vietnam War film genre, because it's without question one of the best and most realistic portrayals of combat, and men in combat, ever put on film. While several of the actors in this film have since gone on to achieve stardom, at the time it was made, it was essentially a cast of unknowns. The acting here is absolutely topnotch and shows the madness of war in a sometimes preachy but always emotional way. It's deinfitely not a "feel good" movie, but if you want a gritty, grim, violent and harshly realistic take on men caught in the hell that is war, then they don't come any better than Hamburger Hill.

Summary: Movies at their best, dvd's at their near best....
Review: I have to say that this is a very honest movie. It stays very true to it's content and realism. Although I personally don't think that the movie is as neary gory as depicted in some of the movie books I have read. I admit that the movie starts at a snails pace but soon picks up into fast paced action when the boys of bravo company try to take the Hamburger Hill. What the movie fails at is that the movie produces non likable characters and doesnt seem to keep you wrapped up into the flow as it did in Oliver Stone's Platoon. Second of all, I want to tell you to get this DVD whenever you see it! The DVD's transfer is totally awesome. I felt like I was watching a brand new crisp clear movie rather than something made in the eighties. The picture and sound are outstounding. Way better than some of the other DVD's i purchased along with it. The soundtarck is remastered and it is presented in it's original widescreen format along with it's trailor. The only thing that this DVD lacks from being another masterpiece in your collection is it's lack of special features. If you see this DVD purchase it. You wont be let down. Thank you for your time.

Summary: Best of all War Movies
Review: This is the most relaistic war move of them all. The only other that come this close is Saving Private Ryan.

Summary: realistic as can be
Review: this movie is a very realistic look at what vietnam was like. i consider this the third best vietnam war movie (Platoon and Full Metal Jacket) being the other two. hamburger hill is the most realistic however because it has to do with a real battle and it was filmed realisticly. platoon beats it because of better acting and a better life message. platoon was not just about Vietnam it was about life. Full metal jacket beats it because of humor and also a more important life message.

Summary: very real, forget Platoon, this is what it was REALLY like
Review: The Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon. All great films but they are all extremely unrealistic when it comes down to the nitty gritty.

This movie was lost in between Full Metal Jacket and Platoon and has sadly almost been forgotten. Its about a platoon taking a hill. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. No whiney Oliver Stone hippy message, no acid trippy Coppola spear fights, no Stanley Kubrick humor.

The characters aren't cartoons like in Platoon, they don't pull one great line after another, they don't have good jokes you and your friends will be saying for months to come after watching. They are real men who are stuck in a horrible situation and they are losing bad.

The DvD transfer is amazing. Very clear and crisp and I'm very glad they went to the trouble of giving it the widescreen treatment (BAN PAN AND SCAN! GO WIDESCREEN!). The audio mix is great too, sounds way better than those old horrible VHS tapes with the groggy muddy picture and muddled sound.

What makes this film really stick out is again, the way the characters are potrayed. They don't fit those stupid war movie cliches.

And the ending is very good. Not shocking or numbing, you feel like the 3 men sitting on the top. What the hell just happened?

This film is the cold hard facts. I wish it wasent so underrated.

Summary: The most realistic look at what Vietnam was like
Review: Hamburger Hill is a hard realistic view of just what Vietnam was like. I have read the book and own the video. The soldiers portrayed in the movie are the closest portrayal that I have seen to what the troops were like during my tour in Vietnam. It is not a movie for everyone. The language is hard but very real. The scenes are sometimes heartbreakingly bloody and fierce. However, I recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in what the 18,19 and 20+ year-olds had to endure in Vietnam while president Johnson pursued his "guns and butter policy" and General Westmoreland was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Summary: Great film about men at war
Review: You know this film does paint the right picture, waste, death and nothing to gain. Because of the political strategy of the war no ground was fought over for keeps. One reviewer on this page mentioned that there was no real point, and that's plain old right, that's why it's so tragic.

Summary: The Best of it's genre
Review: The closest to what Vietnam was like. I was in the Nam in 68-69 and this flick shows the waste of lives and the futility we faced. I don't know if I like or hate this film.

Summary: Hamburger Hill
Review: It was a fairly good movie but it had no point really and it also had way too much cursing in it. I would rate it 3 stars.

Summary: What Can I Say
Review: Nothing more than I was there. So is this movie. I can assure you the real thing was worse, but this flick gives an accurate portrayal of "what was it like". Well done and they cleaned up boonie rap rather nicely.
