Rating: Summary: Interesting Little Piece of WWII Propaganda Review: This movie was made in 1943 and undoubtedly served it's purpose as a propaganda plea to support the war effort. It was made on an obviously low budget, but still conveyed the plight of the troops and civilians trapped on Corregidor by the Japanese at the onset of the war in 1941/42. The plot is a bit soapy, but not as bad as some of the stuff put out back then. The main characters are a civilian doctor and his soon to be doctor wife who are trapped by the Japanese attacks on the island. They, plus a contingent of American troops, bravely fight against inevitable odds until forced to surrender. The film embellishes their efforts and weaves some intrigue using a love triangle to occupy time between relentless attacks. I am not giving away any endings--anyone who had any elementary school history knows Bataan and Corregidor were forced into surrender, but the tales of getting there make up this story. It certainly didn't receive any awards that I know of, but is a great addition to any WWII film collection, especially at the price offered. The cast is mostly unknowns, to me anyway, but they did well under the circumstances. The DVD transfer is poor, sound is very bad, but somehow it is kind of interesting and worth a look. Three stars is primarily due to the poor quality of the recording. The movie alone gets a very generous four stars. I'm easy.
