Review: In my opinion, one of the best war drama films EVER. I think Farrell was excellent. He is going to be the next Robert De Niro. If you like war films, especially drama war films then you must, I repeat, YOU MUST SEE THIS FILM.

Summary: Amazingly accurate
Review: This movie captures the essence of the early 70s US Army, losing a war and its sense of direction. The characters are all too real and the cinematography perfectly captures the mood. I remember many people just like the ones in the movie. Remember the young recruit who "went almost through 6th grade, married a woman a might older, 28 to 17, and had a few kids, some mine, some hers"? That was no exaggeration, I ran into many of those people. Tigerland shows how good a low budget movie can be.

Summary: AWESOME FILM!!
Review: Colin Farrell should have won an Oscar for his performance in this movie! What an outstanding bit of acting! And it helps that he makes my knees weak when I look at him (WOW!)!! Anyway, I found this movie refreshing in the fact that it never actually shows you any Vietnam war footage or anybody killing the enemy. All the actors do such an amazing job considering the conditions they were under (no make-up people, no cafe lattes, no pampering, no fancy-shmancy directors chairs for everyone). They actually made me cry for them and care for them all and wish that I could just enfold them all in my arms to keep these poor boys safe! I absolutely LOVED this film!!

Review: tigerland is the worst of the genre i have seen...a waste of hard earned money and an insult to the the men and women who serve and train the united states army...it uses only the worst the worst of cliches...there is no substance...realtiy has left the building in this one...this is not how soldiers trained for viet nam...the setting at ft. polk with the rain and mud is the only thing well portrayed...save your money...vince.

Summary: this movie stays in your mind
Review: this was a great movie. it did not put you to sleep, it was not overacted, and it did emotionally deliver.it portrayed the horribleness of war, the brutality of training,and the lives of soldiers waiting to be shipped off to a lost and pointless cause, with all the anxiety that produces.

Summary: Very Solid, Nerve Wracking, Thought Provoking Drama...
Review: This DVD and movie are top notch. I highly recommend this DVD. I don't like to give any spoilers so please forgive the generic and short review. Being based in boot camp, this is a very unique movie which is highly focused on what it took to mentally and physically prepare for Vietnam. You will find yourself grimmacing and feeling what the characters feel. This is not a dumb grunt war/boot camp movie; this movie is a gripping psychological drama. Under the kind of stress these people are under, you find yourself wondering which of the characters you would be most like if in their situation. Very thought provoking, and even light hearted/entertaining at times.

Review: Tigerland is an amazingly accurate depiction of how soldiers act and talk. My wife asked if that was the way soldiers talked. Well, yes it is. Just as Das Boot does for submariners, Tigerland is a vivid portrayal of life in the Army.

Summary: Good, but given the premise it could have been a lot better
Review: One aspect of the Vietnam era military which is often overlooked is the amount of dissent, breakdown of military discipline, and anti-war sentiment which began percolating through the ranks from about 1969 onward, often with a few self-styled agitators (or "barracks lawyers") stirring up trouble in their units. (This was not, I'm told, the case prior to 1969). This film is best viewed with that in mind; it is set in 1971 at advanced infantry training at Ft. Polk, and may very well be the first time a filmmaker has used the resistance-within-the-ranks aspect of the Vietnam-era military as a premise for a film. Trouble is, the premise was handled with kid gloves, as if trying not to offend any viewers with too strong an anti-war message, and so this becomes just another basic training film. In other words, you've seen it all before; it invites comparison to Full Metal Jacket, as well as to its other obvious influence, M*A*S*H. While it *does* present a gritty, emotional, brutal, and sometimes shocking look at military traning, it still comes up short, if only by comparison to Full Metal Jacket, which still stands as the ultimate portrayal of grittiness and brutality during basic training. The agitator here is Boz, who helps several members of his unit get out of the military, consistently acts in an insubordinate way, and generally stirs up trouble. His command won't do anything about him, because they need as many bodies to ship to Vietnam as they can, and aren't willing to deplete the ranks any more than they already are. So, they are caught in a catch-22 and have to tolerate his troublemaking. We are left wondering about Boz's motives, however. Is he merely having fun harassing the brass a-la Private Joker, or is he against the war, or is it a little of both? We never learn, but suspect that he is just having fun. The only surprise twist to the plot happens when Boz and his best friend in the unit, Paxton, get on the wrong side of another member of the unit who is an ideological hawk and mentally unstable to boot. Otherwise, the plot is too linear and mostly predictable, and takes away further from the emotional power this film potentially had. It's also unfortunately lacking in memorable quotes, although there is one great moment when the commanding officer, angry at seeing others in the unit starting to adopt Boz's rebellious attitude, says "When did 'My country wrong or right' become '**** this ****'?" The acting, from a cast of newcomers, is top notch, and the direction and photography, if a bit too "arty", is also very good. Overall, this is worthwhile, but given the premise it could have been a lot better if they had taken the premise and run with it a bit further than they did.

Review: Tigerland? This should have been called "WHINERLAND"!! This film is filled with so much overacting that actual soldiers would tend to find it truly unbelievable. Actor, Tom Guiry, was the worst of the group, delivering a performance that was nearly unbearable to watch. This film was shot in 16mm (an old, low-budget filming method). Although this format works well for some (more artistic) films, it fails miserably for this cinematic bomb. If you are looking for something to put you to sleep, certainly pop this one in your VCR, sit back, and you'll be out like a light in 5 minutes!!
