Summary: A different kind of war movie.
Review: If you are a war movie buff or not, this movie is worth seeing and keeping. It is the ultimate of war movies, where winning or losing is not the theme, where there is no glamourizing of war, and there are no super heroic scenes that we often see in Hollywood creations. This is a soldier's movie and does not exploit any part of moviemaking in order to make its point, which is, war is ugly, brutal, and unmistakably unpredictable. This movie captures all that is unglorious of urban, modern, combat and achieves its main underlying antiwar theme.

Summary: This is an awesome movie
Review: I thought this was a great movie. I wish Orlando Bloom was in it more though. It had a great story. Very realistic. Great action. It was bloody and gory, but very worth watching!!!

Summary: A perfect chicken rice
Review: One of the finest chicken rice the Sticky has ever tasted has got to be at the small restaurant on River Valley Rd, Singapore. The chicken itself is tender and juicy, cooled to perfection, and sits on a layer of fresh tomato and cucumber slices. The soya-oil braising is subtle, not overdone, and zesty to the point of making me break down and cry. The rice is rich with chicken stock flavours, and nicely gareng. The broth is a sublime touch, cutting finely through the richness of the entire dish. The ginger and chilli mixture makes me weep...

This is one of Josh Hartnett's favourite dishes, and proved to be the motivating force for his performance in Black Hawk Down. He fought bravely, knowing all the while that back home a perfect chicken rice would be his. Now that's dedication to rice!

Summary: The best war movie ever!
Review: I usually never buy DVD's but after seeing this one I pre-ordered a copy. This movie is simply the best war movie ever made. If you enjoy action at all, you will love this movie. Be warned though, a special edition is coming out soon with more behind the scenes and other features. Above all this is one of the great movies that stays realistic and still kicks some serious ... .

Summary: A Masterpiece.
Review: "Black Hawk Down" is one of the great modern war films. It is raw, engrossing and enlightening and ultimately a powerful experience. Director Ridley Scott takes us into the event from all angles and paints a clear picture of what happened in Somalia in 1993. He shows us characters that feel authentic because they are real and lets us feel what they feel. He shoots in a gritty, rich style and his editor, Pietro Scalia (who won an Oscar for his work here) brings order to chaos and let's us experience the tension. "Black Hawk Down" is more than a simple piece of entertainment, it is a document of what happened and why. Scott does not shy away from the harsh moments and shows the realities of war for what they are. While "Saving Private Ryan" crystalized the violence and realities of World War 2, "Black Hawk Down" embodies the truths of today's type of warfare. Like Oliver Stone's "Platoon," it is not a patriotic, glamorous war movie, instead it is a gritty document of what war really is and how the world really works. In a way it also shows how the road to September 11 was paved. The guerrillas in Somalia were trained by Osama Bin Laden and when then President Clinton pulled out, pushed aside helping the suffering people, in a way it sent a message (a wrong one of course) to Bin Laden and his ilk that if you hit America, America runs away. History is always connected. In technical credits the film is beyond superb. The landscapes and atmosphere feel real and the violence is not entertaining, it is frightening and real. The music of Hans Zimmer adds to the effect with his rich combinations of rock (including Stevie Ray Vaughuan's cover of Hendrix's "Voodoo Child") and Middle Eastern music. "Black Hawk Down" is one of the most important modern war movies, it is a perfect showing of the dangerous world we live in. Movies like this are needed and one responsibility a great artist has is to show truths and Scott does just that with this movie. It is greater even than his "Gladiator," certainly more than "Hannibal," because it is not just engrossing, it is POWERFUL and IMPORTANT. "Black Hawk Down" is a masterpiece and of the best films you can see right now.

Summary: Phrase of the day: "Shock Value"
Review: That's it. Shock Value. That's what is packed in this movie, folks. This movie doesn't have slow scenes like in most war movies. Almost the ENTIRE movie is fighting, blood, war. That's not necissarily a bad thing though, in my opinion anyway. This movie didn't have too mch charicter depth, but you still feel for the soldiers in Samolia. Charicter depth in movies comes from, long speach scenes mostly, to explain to the audience about a charicter's past and whatnot. But in actuality, if you're caught in a war, you don't have time to talk and walk around. Saving Private Ryan was different. It was based on multiple battles, and in between battles is where the charicter depth was created. This movie is based on one battle. No time for charicter depth. But the reason that you still feel for the soldiers, is from the shocking reality that they ACTUALLY went through this and they were EXTREMLY out numbered. Imagine if you and several and several buddies and buddies of theirs walked in to the middle of town, then everyone started shooting at you and the only way you could live is to fight your way to the next town. I can't count how many times my jaw hit the theatre floor. Scenes like when the Hummvees came back to base, and a young soldier looked in to see bullet holes, empty casings, and blood and gore/bone chunks, of his fallen soldiers, was really dramatic. War is NOT pretty, and this movie makes that, shockingly, clear. This movie is most definatly going to be in my DVD collection when it comes out.

Summary: Best of the modern war movies
Review: A gripping, gritty portrayal of our elite fighting forces and the tragedy surrounding their operation against a brutal warlord in Somalia. These men fought bravely and hard, and although they did not receive the support from higher up that might have turned a long, bloody day into the planned shorter operation, they seemed to accept their fate and many were willing to go back in and rescue their comrades. This movie makes you proud to be an American and gives you new respect for our young warriors.
See the movie, read the book by Mark Bowden, then see the movie again.

Review: If you're a man, you'll like this movie.

If you dont like this movie b/c your political views get in the way, then you arent a good critic.

Judge the movie on its content, not what you think is right and wrong in the world.

Summary: TRUE TO FORM
Review: BLACK HAWK DOWN IS ONE OF THE BEST, MODERN DAY WAR FILMS OUT TODAY. THE MOVIE FOLLOWS TRUE TO FORM WITH THE BOOK, WICH IS ALSO OUTSTANDING.

AS AN ARMY WIFE OF A SOLDIER FROM FT. BRAGG, THIS FILM REALLY HIT HOME. IT PORTRAYS CLEARLY HOW DIFFERENT WAR IS TODAY, YET HOW AMAZINGLY BRAVE AND HEROIC OUR SOLDIERS STILL REMAIN.

AFTER SEEING THIS FILM IT BECOMES SO MUCH MORE CLEAR AS TO WHY OUR SOLDIERS DO WHAT THEY DO AND LOVE WHAT THEY LOVE AND ARE SO HOOAH ABOUT THE ARMY.
