Summary: Truly Sensational
Review: If you haven't already taken the chance to see this CLASSIC, you can now watch it with absolute clarity, both in sound and sight, thanks to the wonderful advancement in technology - DVD's. This movie is by far one of the best war movies ever depicted on the Silver Screen. Its stellar cast (including Academy Award Winning Actor Denzel Washington and Andre Braugher, one of today's most under-rated and under appreciated actors) delivers a truly remarkable performance and made me a fan of a war I shunned as a high school student. To miss this movie is to deprive yourself of, not only an OUTSTANDING movie, but a phenomenal piece of American History very rarely talked about in traditional History classes. This DVD, packed full of extras is one for your home video collection.

Summary: An Excellent DVD for an Excellent Movie
Review: First and foremost, Glory is one of those movies with an emotion packed scene from start to finish. Ed Zwick's direction and the great editing provide no time for you to relax mentally. The acting is superb and the musical score complements the film drama perfectly.

Now for the DVD. The picture quality is top. You get crisp outlines and colors. The sound could be slightly better, but it'll do for most home systems. There are a lot of bonus features on these two discs. For one, you can view the movie widescreen or full screen. You can then watch the film with a picture within picture commentary. You also get other great featurettes such as the making of the film, a documentary on the actual regiment, deleted scenes, original previews, etc...

Overall, there is a lot to view here and discover on this DVD set. If you've never seen Glory, this DVD will overwhelm you in a good way. If you've already seen it, get ready to see it in great quality and in a whole new light thanks to the bonus features.

Summary: Glory- The way it should have been...
Review: As a died-in-the-wool Southerner, I actually realize that slavery was (and is..) detestable. This film has only one flaw: the vulgar language spewed by Sgt. MulCahey was probably accurate but too much for middle school children. This would be an important film for them to watch if it weren't for that. I would have been proud to have been a part of the 54th Mass. They had heart and "a cause". Real men doing what is right at the right time are hard to find no matter who they are. GLORY restores my faith in ALL the races. Way to go cast and crew of GLORY. Now do The Battle of Brandy Station...

Summary: WOW!!!!!
Review: I thought that this story was amazing!!!!! I didn't really understand the Civil War all that much but I completley understand it now. The movie really taught me to be thankful for who I am and what I have. The cinematography was also amazing. An the music really made the movie. There was a lot or racism issues that had to be dealt with and this movie also demonstrated the effects that racism has on people. All of the actors were great and they potrayed the troops/ soldiers from the civil was exceptionaly well. Overall, the movie was excellent. All I have to say is "WOW" !!!!! :)

Summary: Cinematic Excellence
Review: It has been twelve years since this movie was released and close to 140 years since it actually happened and it is still one of the most interesting stories you could ever see. It shows the power of human spirit. The dedication of men to their leader, and a leader to his men. Glory is a powerful onslught to the senses: Fear, Anger, Pride, Prejudice, Greed, Malice, Jealousy, Trust, Honor, Courage, Friendship I can't think of a movie in modern history that has been more compelling. Matthew Broderick did an outstanding job. Carey Elwes, Morgan Freeman, and of course Denzel Wahington (who won an OSCAR for his role) do a magnificient job as well. This movie is a must own for movie collectors.

Summary: Magnificent Musical Score
Review: I can't emphasize enough how perfect the score is for this film, absolutely beautiful. Perfect casting. A tearjerker with machismo! If you want more after seeing this film I would recommend GETTYSBURG. Two great films and to think you'll actually learn something while watching an ACTION picture.

Summary: Why can't more films be like this?
Review: Extraordinary. The perfect opportunity for a bad film was here - an emotive story, complex battle scenes, pathos flying in every direction. Yet led by stirring music, polished direction and powerhouse acting, 'Glory' runs away with the Civil War crown.

The top four billed - Broderick, Washington, Freeman and Elwes - all play marvellously, fitting into the story as if they've lived it. Washington couldn't have done more to deserve his Oscar, and frankly in most films you'd be itching for his next scene while watching. But not here, because there's so much more to marvel at.

They're not out there alone. Zwick handles his budget and extras masterfully (follow the commentary for details) and his production talents make Glory into a blockbuster film. James Horner's score is fabulous, as has been pointed out by others - and if the score gets noticed like this one has, you know it must be special.

The last twenty minutes of the film, in terms of emotional weight and power, stack up with anything I've seen in film. The ending really is that good.

People who haven't seen this film are missing a tale of courage, honor, and victory-through-defeat that has yet to be bettered by modern film.

Summary: An Actual Glimpse of Truth
Review: Edward Zwick, who both emerged from and returned to obscurity, made "Glory." It actually glimpses a part of the greatest tragedy of American history, which few filmmakers have had the temerity to even approach - the Civil War (1860-65). It so happens it glimpses probably the most dramatic event in the whole war, the recruiting and accoutrement of a regiment of black Americans - some born free, some fled from slavery - which the union ultimately throws against an impregnable stronghold in South Carolina. I've been to the site depicted so vividly in "Glory," and I'm afraid to report no mention of the lost, no annotation of the first all-black regiment to have expended itself on the site. It merely mentions the valiant Confederate defense of the site. Yet further proof that we need more such films to unsettle the stupid fingerholds of history. The idiotic belief that it was merely a conflict involving States' rights needs to be permanently laid to rest. The south shall rise (and fall) again!

Summary: Glory and Praise
Review: By far one of the best films ever! Glory is the perfect combination of cinematography, score, directing, acting , and writing. Matthew Broderick and Denzel Washington star along with other memorable actors (Cary Elwes, Morgan Freeman, et al) and convey the story of Robert Shaw and his regiment of African-American soldiers. Although it's not a long film, the writing is concise and the audience gets to know every character so that when the end comes there won't be a dry eye in the house.
