Rating: Summary: A mix of Hollywood and History Review: This movie is a must have for anyone who is a fan of war or military based movies. Black Hawk Down is a type of movie where you will be speechless at the end. I am currently reading the book by Mark Bowden and am realizing that parts of the movie are not 100% accurate. However, there is nothing in this movie that could not have happened. The film will leave you angry, frustrated, and a give you new appreciation of what the people of the United States Military are about. In my opinion, to get the most out of the movie, you need to read the book and see the special that was broadcast by the History Channel, "The True Story of Black Hawk Down". These two additional mediums will help you to begin to understand the true meaning of "Leave No Man Behind".
Rating: Summary: Hollywood or Real History Review: Plainly this is a Hollywood vision of what might have happened, in the John Wayne tradition.Get real. Australian Veteran
Rating: Summary: Good Intentions Paved the Way Review: I remember the fight that the Rangers and the Delta force people had against the Somali warlords in 1993. The images were shocking. Watching the film you get that feeling again and you see how things went wrong. Great acting by Hartnett and the rest of the cast. Sizemore has the role of old timer in the military down to a science. Also people that love action and realism in war films you will get it here. Very graphic war scenes.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: As much as I wanted to like this movie, I have to admit that it really isn't entirely successful. I understand why Scott wanted to make the film, given that the book is powerful and influential. But Speilberg's work in "Saving Private Ryan" has raised the bar in war films so high that I think it is difficult to make a film that compares favorably. If this had been made several years ago, it would have made a much greater impression, especially when compared to "Apocalypse Now" or "The Deer Hunter," which seem dated in retrospect. I wish this had been a great film, because it is about the men who are out there _right now_ fighting Al Qaeda, but it is not a great film or even a particularly engaging one.
Rating: Summary: Great movie for DVD but . . . Review: I thought that this was a great movie when I saw it in the theatre and I could not wait for it to be released on DVD for all the extra features that usually come with a DVD. After I purchased the DVD I found myself dissapointed with the lack of extra features that I guess I expected. The back or the DVD case says that the movie trailers are included. The only trailers I have on my copy are for Spiderman and The One. I was also hoping for some deleted scenes. I hope this is not a trend to release a DVD with limited special features and then in six months re-release it as a "Special Edition" with all the extras!
Rating: Summary: False history movie........ Review: Although the movie is quite good, But the storyline totally against the true history. The real story at the end part is "Malaysia" armies rescue this silly "America" armies. Without the help of Malaysia armies, sure this [people] are killed.
Rating: Summary: A Gritty, Fast Paced Movie. My opinion: WONDERFUL! Review: For those of you who thought Black Hawk Down was too overdone, think about it for a second. It's about war; it HAS to have the killing and edginess to it. But for those of you who don't like violence, this may not be the movie for you. I thought the movie was wonderfully done. I read some other reviews and they said that there were too many characters that you don't get personally attached, but I disagree. Unless you have bad vision or aren't reasonably smart, you should be able to keep all the characters straight--even if you don't know all their names, you recognize their faces. It is not the typical war movie where soldiers come running up against the other side, but shows the more recent complications soldiers encounter: fighting inside cities. Yes, a lot of soldiers die, but not all the "non-essential" soldiers get killed off. A wonderful movie!
Rating: Summary: Whats so good about it? Review: Another Hollywood war movie. Yes the movie is great in some ways in showing the full nature of the event but then there is that main character who is the worst actor I have ever seen. Why does every war related movie have to put one of these Top Gun kinda guys in there? This movie is definetely a need to see but unless your one who can ignore the bad acting it might be quite painful.
Rating: Summary: A Pathetic Attempt to Conjure up the Patriotism! Review: This is a typical Hollywood movie that aims to enhance the patriotic feelings in the Americans. The director makes a futile attempt to justify the American involvement in Somalian conflict. Ironically, Americans feel that they have the legal right to interfere with different world conflicts! Naturally, the director explains the conflict as seen from the American perspective and subsequently ignores the indisputable facts pertaining to this conflict. I know of no American war movie that assumes an objective perspective to a given conflict. Unfortunately, being the world's most powerful state, the U.S. abuses this power by employing flawed foreign politics! This is evident in the fact that the U.S. support Israel 's occupation of the Palestine and thus ignore the immense suffering of the Palestinian people.
Rating: Summary: Not a big action/war epic fan but... Review: I really liked this movie. Well, maybe not liked it, it was heart-wrenching and emotional, and a little painful to watch, just because the film does an exquisite job of painting a picture of strife and shows the stupidity of battle (well, at least that's how the whole atrocity came off to me). Plus it features a really talented actor (Orlando Bloom- more famous as Legolas, the blond archer in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy). It is true that I am a teenage girl and vehement "Orli" enthusiast but this is a very good movie. I recommend it. Also watch for the talented Jason Isaacs. He's just one cool dude, dude.
