Rating: Summary: navajos men of honour Review: this could well be one of the most interesting releases of 2002....the factual stories of the navajos "code talkers" were classified until 1968 and only recently honoured by president bush with a white house presentation of congressional gold and silver medals.this was the only code not broken by the japanese in WW2 and i hope woo was able to use many young navajo actors to portray their revered elders who served their country with distinction after decades in which that same country had all but eliminated their native language... for those of us non americans who have been priviliged to experience the respect these older navajos command in the areas around gallup, new mexico-especially during the annual "intertribal ceremonial"every august-we,also with a sense of respect, await the release of this story in whatever format that may be....trevor graham;australia
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: I've always liked John Woo films, and I congatulate him on his departure from hard action. Windtalkers look like he may be trying to prove that he's not just about hard action. I can't wait for this film to be released.
Rating: Summary: film looks exciting.... Review: this film looks exciting , since im a fan in the war genre films i think this film will have wonderful cinematography, and great performances... maybe it will even have a great screenplay and great musical score, but it's too early to judge and criticize a film, if i haven't seen it...im just giving my ideas to everyone about what i imagine this film would be...the cover of the film gives us a image of war as well as it looks dramatic (look at nicholas cage seriousness it seems like he's struggling to survive as welll as he's living in pain)... when you see the drama in the cover it gives some ideas and images of what this film may turn out to be... it seems great and it seems interesting im going to watch this film and everyone should go watch it too....
Rating: Summary: I Wonder What the Wind Would Say Review: First of all I will say that the importance of the concept for this film is necessary and much overlooked. The involvement of American Indians in war is sadly left out of too many history books.I was hoping this film would be better than it turned out to be. The historical facts should be recoginized along side all of the other celebrations of war heroes. Sadly this film was a complete bomb. The direction was predictable and the action scenes could have been shot by a five year old boy playing "war hero" in the backyard, alot of noise and piles of dust and actors pretending to be dead. All this with the constant drone of a musical score best left for a karoke bar to hum along to. And what happened to Nicolas Cage? He used to be a great actor with individual style and presentation. It seems that he just keeps slipping away. I just was not convinced of his "hero" ability in this film....and his death scene is almost the most horrendous I have ever witnessed, not for the gore or emotional impact, but because it was simply awful acting!
Rating: Summary: emotional, but lacking Review: i admit, it made me cry - but what ever happened to the lady nurse who helped Joe Enders pass his hearing test in order to be able to go back to war, and was writing him all the time? the characters are static, though the Navajos are slightly more dynamic; there was little background info. too much bombs and shooting throughout, and i especially did not like the melodramatic part when Enders killed Whitehorse along with the Japs and then told Yahzee,"I killed him. I threw a bomb and blew him up," acting so sarcastic, wanting to provoke and die. finally, the code language should have been featured more.
Rating: Summary: ful of stereotypes! Review: It is a well done typicall Hollywood movie but I have seen all this so many times. Everything is so predictable. The movie with such great actors as Nicolas Cage and Christian Slater doesn't have any material for them to work with. I was shocked that such inventive director as John Woo could make such lame movie. Not recommended.
Rating: Summary: Raising the rating Review: Okay, it's not a five star movie and I am giving it 5 to make up for the folks who gave it only one. I was skeptical of the movie and it got a mite predictable as it went along, but it was a good, read above average action flick with some minor social messages, and one of N. Cage's better performances. I say 3 and three quarters stars would be a fair rating for this movie. Worth seeing.
Rating: Summary: I really enjoyed this movie... Review: Well, although the reviews don't seem to be to great on this movie I am one that really enjoyed it. I'm not a nitpicker so I didn't examine the movie and look for faults, as some others seem to have done. I thought the acting was great & there was only a tiny part in the movie when the ships were shooting from the water that I thought looked odd. It didn't seem like it belonged to this movie. If you can sit back & enjoy a movie for what it is & not put it under a microscope then I highly recommend this movie but if not then pass on it.
Rating: Summary: did i watch the same movie? Review: 4.5 stars:I saw the theatrical version of windtalkers,i liked it.I bought the directors cut,i loved it.the directors cut is 100% better than the theatrical version,it adds character moments, around 40 mins worth, alot of this movie was butchered by mgm due to 9/11.the sad part about this movie is that it wasnt really about the windtalkers, the restored footage helps this alittle but not enough.the extras are spread thin,an 3 discs was a bit much ,coulda been 2 discs and cheaper.but the movie is just as good as any other war film out there, you folks should watch the directors cut,its adds another level, and makes it a better film, not a skeleton like the version mgm put in theaters.
Rating: Summary: Absolutey Horrible Movie Review: I had such high hopes for this film considering the subject matter. What I should have noted is that Cage is hit-or-miss with his movies, and that Woo was directing. This is 2 hours of my life I will never get back. I could spend quite a bit of time describing in detail all of this film's faults, but enough time has been wasted already. Avoid this terrible film at all costs.
