Summary: Julia Ormond is the main reason to see "First Knight."
Review: Julia Ormond fans will have good reason to see "First Knight," but everyone else may be better off to rent "Excalibur." Compared to the similar John Boorman film, "First Knight" is vastly inferior in almost every department, from the bland photography to the uninvolving story. But Julia Ormond can make even the most mundane film an event, and her presence here is the main reason to see "First Knight." Diehard Julia Ormond fans may also want to see her rare debut film "The Baby of Macon," finally available in the U.S. from Video Europa, where Julia and co-star Ralph Fiennes display much full-frontal nudity for controversial director Peter Greenaway. Summary: Lots of people loved it, not me...
Review: While I've always sort of cast Sean Connery as the epitome of King Richard the Lionheart, Richard Gere spelled a death knell for this movie in my book. Sure, he is handsome, strong, skilled, confident, and the talk of all the ladies, but it's just too bad that he knows it and isn't afraid to say so and act like it (in all of his films).

I was really put off by the way he expects women to melt (and more) in his presence. Besides, his teeth are way to straight to be a convincing anybody in medieval times.

Sorry, but this story of Richard, his queen and first knight misses the mark for me

Summary: A great movie!!!
Review: This is without a doubt the best movie that I have ever seen! Julia Ormond, Richard Gere and Sean Connery all play the perfect roles in a movie that's twisted with love, honor, and good vs. evil. Ben Cross was a very decent bad guy but I still can't get his role of Barnabus Collins from Dark Shadows out of my mind. But hey Ben, dig the cool haircut in this flick though! I have to honestly say that I put this one past Star Wars, and I believe that it's the only one that's good enough in my book to say that of. This movie has everything that you could perhaps want in a film, and I should know! I have watched it over a dozen times atleast and in fact I am gonna go and watch it again right now. I can honestly say that if anyone is interested in purchasing a movie, then this is definitely the one to get! God what I wouldn't give for a sequel !!!

Summary: Very memorable!
Review: I saw this movie when I was 16 and I fell in love with it. I cannot remember a time when I did not enjoy Camelot, and this fueled my enjoyment further. It is a good love story as well as a good versus evil theme. The ending surprised me. I thought it would end different even though I knew how the story was supposed to go.

Summary: "a movie that was written for my leadership class"
Review: I have seen this movie about ten times. I discovered it while teaching a leadership class in the summer of 1995 when my students (adult/graduate) mentioned that many of the themes we were discussing in class were depicted on the screen. I was skeptical until I viewed it myself to validate it was quite true. Subsequently, my students have seen it over the last four years

I have read most of the reviews of this movie and agree with those that suggest it's a great romance with a very good plot and music score. However, for me it is a study of contrasting leadership styles that allows us insight into our own struggles. Each primary character draws us into a style of leadership that gives us a view of contrasting styles and responses. The script shows us "good" and "evil" forces that require leadership responses from authoritarianism to laze-faire. Each style is shown through a different character and is demonstrated with human flaws. Leadership based on courage and character however are demonstrated as the most viable and the understanding of vision is strongly demonstrated by the nature of Camelot. I want to applaud this movie and the people who made it as being one of the best tools I have used to teach leadership. It is truly amazing that a contemporary movie with decent star quality characters would do such a high service. Thank you!

Summary: This production is inexcusably poor on many levels.
Review: Considering the incredible talent and financial resources that went into the production of this film, it is astonishingly atrocious. The usually wonderful Sean Connery does King Arthur as a wimp, while Richard Gere is totally miscast as a 90's hero in the Middle Ages. With all the research available in Medieval Clothing, the costumes are more appropriate for Star Trek. The Production design is equally anachronistic. Ben Cross's band of evil doers handle their pistol crossbows (non-existent in the period) as if they were semi-automatic pistols. Merlin is nowhere to be found. Even Bing Crosby's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" seems more historically accurate, and in touch with human truths.

Summary: A passionate chick-flick
Review: Sure Richard Gere doesn't have an English accent or a decent hair cut, but you WILL feel the flames fly between Genny and Lancelot. Although it doesn't hold true to the ending of the original "Camelot," First Knight deserves respect for being a heart-sweeping romance. I love this movie and recommend it to anyone who is interested in a romance; NOT a duplication of Camelot.

Summary: Good over all, but too much exageration...
Review: if i could have rated this movie 2.5 i would have... i would say that over all, it's was a decent movie, but there's too much exageration (ie: when they jump down the water fall) and what happens is not realy realisting and not serious... i would say it's a light movie. it's like they wanted to make the bad guy, look realy bad, but it doesn't work. But, i must admit that the end is GREAT. Beside that, i wouldn't recommand that movie, if you're looking for a more realistic medieval movie, try BraveHearth. Maybe this one is too much about romance.

Summary: Imperfect but nonetheless delightful!!!
Review: It's not perfect, but it is still very good. Not to mention that the hottest kiss ever on celluloid takes place in this movie between Guinevere and Lancelot. I get chills just remembering it. If you are a romantic, this is the movie for you. I simlply love it with all its imperfections!!!

Summary: I normally don¿t like this genre, but....
Review: "First Knight", for whatever reason, holds a warm spot in my heart. Released at the same time as "Braveheart", it was overlooked by most movie goers. Although not of the caliber of "Braveheart", "First Knight" was a very enjoyable film with a wonderful musical score. I liked the idea of Lancelot being a loner who made his living from a sword, and also liked Gere's modernized version of this character. And what can one say about Julia Ormond, except...wow! If you haven't seen this film, and even if you don't like the genre, I recommend that you pick up the video. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Between 1 and 10, "First Knight" gets a solid 7.
