Rating: Summary: Some call it artsy cinimitography, others call it kiddieporn Review: This film has been hailed as a classic story of first love. Others view it as an example of mainstream child pornography. I prefer to air on the side of it being a classic. The film is the story of two young children who are shipwrecked together. It isn't long before they discover what makes boys different from girls and begin experimenting with sex. Eventually they concieve and Brooke's character bears a child. They face all sorts of hardships before the surprising ending (I won't spoil it). It's a fact that Brooke is dresssed rather scantily throiughout most of the film and she and her beau have several nude scenes (mostly underwater). Unlike today when they use 18-19 year old actors to play teens, Brooke was about 15 when this was filmed. Some like it, others don't. I just wanted you to know what you were in for.
Rating: Summary: MOVIE DESERVES MORE THAN 5 STARS Review: One of the best movies of all time full of drama, laughter, changes of life, tears and discovery. I remember seeing this movie back in the early 80's. Then bought it recently on DVD. Excellent performaces by Chris and Brooke with and excellent plot.
Rating: Summary: U gotta luv it! Review: I'm a guy, 20yrs... And I normally don't like these kinds of films. But this one, never ever seen anything like this one. Breathtakingly romantic, well-played and has a damn good story. You kind of get sweeped into the story. It is THE movie to see with your girlfriend. Trust me on this one...
Rating: Summary: Innocent and Good Review: While the plot might be a little bit weak, camera shots are amazing. The first time I saw this moving I was about 12, the nudity portion did shock me at the time. Right now, I'm can watch this moving again and again, as it leaves the innocence feeling after the titles go off. Acting is good, so is the set up, so is the camera shots. I think this movie should be bought just because. I think it is great and i guess, it reminds me of being 12 every time I watch it.
Rating: Summary: R Review: To counter the numerous suggestions by other reviews that this film is suitable for preteens to introduce concepts of sexuality and "coming of age", I must point out that the film is rated R, for good reason. If you want to watch it with your children, that's your perogative, but let me say that I watched it when I was 11, and I was quite blown away by the graphic depictions of sexual scenes in the movies, and it wouldn't have made much of a difference if my parents were there with me or not. Granted, these are "tender" scenes without violence or disrepect like many other movies, but still, I had never seen anything like it, and it was too much all at once. So, beware.
Rating: Summary: An Enchanting Movie Review: A beautiful and sweet movie. Despite what the critics say! Brooke is soooo beautiful and innocent and does a pretty good acting job~along with Atkins. I intend to watch this movie again with my daughter and son very soon. They are about the age I first saw it. A refreshing movie with very little violence. And the sex in it is done very beautifully and is fine for preteens/teens to view.
Rating: Summary: A charming depiction of young love Review: When their 19th-century cruise ship goes under in a violent storm, 8-year-old cousins Richard and Emmeline are separated from their guardian and rescued by the ship's grouchy cook, Paddy Button. Having landed their lifeboat in a small, picturesque bay, the three set out to explore what turns out to be an at first glance uninhabited isle in the heart of the South Pacific. Under the care of "Mr. Button", the two children, infatuated by their exotic surroundings, happily frolic in the water while awaiting to be rescued. However, their naïvité is shattered with a blow when they discover Paddy Button's dead body on the beach alongside an empty cask of rum. Together, the children manage to singlehandedly muster the construction of a temporary shelter and accumulation of sufficient resources, and thus accomplish survival on the island. The film pans several years forward; Emmeline and Richard, played respectively by teenage Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins, have made the lagoon their second home. Day by day, they come to realize that their love for each other exceeds that of kissing cousins, and soon enough begin to explore each other's bodies. Their rudimentary liaison renders Emmeline pregnant; having been cut off from civilization - and thus education - the girl is unaware of what is growing in her stomach until the baby's very birth. The two teens turn out to be surprisingly good parents, and their little son has reached what appears to be a healthy two years of age when the movie comes to its end. The end itself features a dramatic twist. _The Blue Lagoon_'s striking lack of realism is partially retributed by very well done camera-work. The story itself, too, is not without merit, and does justice to an intense ambivalent relationship typical of those who are coming-of-age.
Rating: Summary: Nudey Lagooney Review: I probably first saw this movie when I was about seven. It was another of the ones I watched repeatedly. Some say that's why I'm deranged today. Really, I was just in love with Christopher Atkins! I remember a lot of it going over my head. I would ask questions about what on earth was going on but no one was going to tell me just yet. It was fun to watch it later on when I knew the facts of life! Brooke Shields was so beautiful - what happened to her? (catty, I know) Christopher is as cheeky and boyish as ever. I can't believe this is available on DVD! I don't know what to say about it, but... hmmm, very interesting and good for a laugh these days.
Rating: Summary: funny Review: even though this movie is supposed to be a romance, drama,i found it hilarious.the little kids running around saying "i dont wanna put my clothes on!"made me fall on the floor laughing.this movie does really deserve some awards.i know it won academy awards 80' best cinematography but it should have won best film too.anyway see this.it is really good.sad ending though.i think it did.i havent seen this movie for a couple years
Rating: Summary: Pass this one up Review: Basically, someone put their ultimate fantasy on screen: two virginal kids stuck on a desert island discover sex and grind away at it. Not a whole lot of story here. The dialog is corny, the sex questionably explicit (Brooke Shields was only 15 when this was filmed), and the acting only fair. The only good thing in the movie is the scenery. I was appalled that a distinguished actor like Leo McKern was in it. Basically what you have here is a soft-porn flick being passed off as a romance. There are better, more sincere romance movies out there, and you'd be better off using your money elsewhere. Or, better yet, if you're into tropical love, don't watch others doing it -- take your significant other and head for the tropics yourself!
