Summary: nice but...
Review: Nice extra feautures. But the movie is on two discs. Annoying having to change discs midway through even though DVDs can hold 4 hours on a side when double layered.

Titanic and Green Mile, which are about the same length as Pearl Habor, fit the movie on one disk.

I'd expect this on VHS but not on DVD

Summary: Was good but could have done better...
Review: Ok, it was a great movie but the plot didn't fit the title very well. This movie was more of a love triangle. This movie wasn't based ONLY on Pearl Harbor. It was based on three people's lives.

Don't get me wrong it was an excellent movie, but...
It took a long time to get to the main point of the movie, Pearl Harbor.

If this movie was based on Pearl Harbor, did it have to bring the story to Europe? The plot was more of a love story that involved the Pearl Harbor attack interfering with their love life.

The thrilling part didn't even come until more than half the movie went through. Now if the story based more, NOT on someone's love life then it would've been better.

This movie obviously didn't make sense to have the movie title. The plot should have stayed strictly on the two main characters and leave the girl out. That would've left a lot of action.

The attack affected the three, mostly in their love life. But they lost close friends also, but they cared more about their love life. My goodness...

What can I say? It's not all based on Pearl Harbor. That's what I'm trying to say here. If you wanna see Pearl Harbor check out Tora! Tora! Tora!

Summary: One of the best movies I've ever seen.
Review: This is an incredible movie. Ben Afflec was great. The whole cast did and excellent job. What a great movie. Words can't say how much I loved this movie.

Summary: Simply Put: WOW!
Review: WOW!! This DVD has it all. And "All" is an understatement. I wasn't crazy about the actual movie itself, considering it had historical "flaws", and it seemed to glorify the love story, above the actual attack. So I pretty much purchased this set simply for the supplementals, which alone, is worth the [money].

So, when I got home, I read the little message Michael Bay wrote to the new owner. He really put things in perspective for the film. He wasn't entirely focused on historical accuracy, or pleasing critics. He just wanted to make a film that took back the survivors to that certain place or time, and get inside the heads of the people of that pivotal era. It worked. That note alone made me re-think the film, and when I watched it again, I actually cried, and basically fell in love. While the film does certainly have historical inaccuracies, and didn't come off as the history lesson some wanted, it certainly does give the viewer a good grasp of the time and feelings people went through. The Directors Cut also restores some gratuitous scenes not seen before, which can make you cringe if you're not used to a lot of gore. And it also does away with an unneccesary scene between Rafe and Danny. And an interesting scene with Doolittle and his crew is thanfully restored. Overall, only one minute in all is added. But the scenes restored and the scene taken out add up, and make for a better experience.

Now, on to the special features. Where to begin??? This DVD is packed FULL of features, that I haven't even gotten all the way through yet. I enjoyed the commentary from Michael Bay, and really got into the one with Baldwin, Affleck and Hartnett. The highlight for me, though, is the Boot Camp featurettes. They're not only funny, but informative. It gives the viewer a glimpse into actual Boot Camp, and I have more respect for every actor who participated in the exploits. As for everything else, well, the movie is pretty much analyzed and analyzed until every detail is damn near made clear. Things in the film still baffle me though. And then there are historical documentaries on the attack itself, and the Doolittle raid. Both are informative and intriguing watches. I know I'm forgetting so much of the features here, and I'm sorry. But this is a must-have DVD, and I'm only explaining some of the features I found were the best.

Overall, the film gets an A-, and the DVD(s) get an A+. I can't complain about much here. The only notable complaint would have to be the fact that the film is stretched out onto TWO discs. WHY??? DVDs have so much memory available on them, and I've watched other 3 hour plus epics that have been compressed onto one disc. Other than that, everything is spectacular. And I mean SPECTACULAR! The packaging is great, the film is good, the extras are fantastic. This is a must-have. Go get this right away. You'll have a better appreciation for actors and directors, seeing what they have to endure to get a movie made. And then, when it is finished, critics attack their work. Maybe this DVD will help some of those [critics] realize what's endured while creating a film of this size. I'm glad I got this, and you will be too, once you get it.

Summary: A more patriotic director's cut , a tribute to Pearl Harbor.
Review: It was the second worst attack in american history second only to September 11th, 2001.And like Sept, 11th no one could
have realized what would happen on that December 7th in 1941
on a cloudy but sunny day that would be forever soaked red ,
with blood and the bodies of the fallen navy sailors that
would pay the ultimate price on that day.It is these men who
the veterans that are alive would say are the real hero's it
this hulking 4 disk version that director Micheal Bey wishes
to pay tribute to them.It is the biggest DVD in history shows
everything from informative documentaries to footage on the
making of this spare no expense movie.

But it is director Micheal Bey's new cut of Pearl Harbor
his rated R version that makes this movie shine absolutely
shunned by criticts about it's sappy love story and that may
be all but true. But the attack sequence is even more realistic
given the graphic detail that has been put back into it fast
and quick footage but in any way as graphic as Saving Private
Ryan or Black Hawk Down. Now the day of infamy can be seen in
horrifying prespective as the movie should only be shown to
honor those men that sacrificed and experienced the horror's
on the sea's of the pacific. They must be remembered in any
and every way we can because they sacrificed for us for our
flag for our country we owe it to them to tell the real story
weither it be hollywood or documentary you will get a well
done fair amount of both here as it should be watch and see
and remember your world war 2 veterans always remember them
if it wasn't for them we would not be here.

Summary: Better DVD package than the original release
Review: Well It finally came out! After being pushed back sevral times the vista edition of Pearl Harbor has finally been released. The package itself is a great deal and the extras can take hours to sort through. A highlight for me being the interactive attack feature which lets you view the film, on the set, and a cgi animated storyboard of the film. while the film is quite long and in some places dowright boring the attention to detail rivals that other monster Titanic (tho I enjoyed pearl harbor much more). if you're a fan of miltary films, liked pearl harbor, or just interested in the movie making process definitely pick up this copy of the movie. but be warned the added footage of the attack is in some spots quite graphic (think saving pvt ryan but scaled down) it's a great film and should be added to any collection. also if you've purchased the older dvd there's a coupon to get five dollars back from buena vista video!;)

Summary: One Great Movie on Two "Inconvenient" discs
Review: If you loved the movie on the big screen, you'll love the movie on DVD. The BIG problem is that the movie is split-up on TWO discs!

You have to get up, about three-quarters through the movie, and change discs!!

With 6 hours of space available on one disc, I'm amazed at this "Laser-Disc-esque" format. They made a great movie a SUB-PAR DVD experience. I would rather watch something else than have to get up and change discs in the middle of a movie. I would buy it again in two seconds if the movie was available on one DVD, with the bonus materials on a second disc.

Summary: Historical problems
Review: The action part of the film is fine, the love triangle a little too much, and there are some historical inaccuracies. The best, and most factual, account is still Tora Tora Tora.

Summary: Movie-3 Stars ,DVD Release-5 Stars
Review: Pearl Harbor is an entertaining movie, with great visual effects and battle scenes, but one of the sappiest love stories ever.
Most of the performances are decent enough, but Ben Affleck's(normally a very decent actor) character is just downright annoying at times, and his version of a southern accent is not good.
As for the new director's cut,it is a step up from the original, and worth an extra 1/2 star over the original.
The attack sequence is much more graphic and brutal.Really shocking in contrast with the first part of the film. There are other small changes as well.
Of course the sappy love story still remains.

The extras are what really makes this new release worthwhile.I haven't listened to any of the commentary tracks yet(there are three I think),but the documentaries are very interesting-the History Channel's documentary on the real Doolittle's Raiders is especially interesting.
There are lots of other extras as well, including a production diary which shows the actual filming of certain sequences.

Picture quality is outstanding, and the 5.1 sound(both Dolby and DTS),is fantastic.

Overall, while still not a great movie, this is a great DVD release.

Summary: This is the Reason I Hate Blockbusters
Review: I hated this film. Hated it! It was chock full of cheap, insencere sentimentality and unnecissary violence. None of the characters were remotely believable, and you would expect better performances from the actors for the copious amounts of money they received to appear in this piece of fluff. I felt no connection with any of the characters. In fact, this film failed miserably to get any sort of emotional reaction out of me besides boredom and annoyance. The revisionist history and unquestioning idolization of the military all to present in this film were just the last straw for me. It's garbage like this that makes me lose faith in the blockbuster system.
