Rating: Summary: a beautiful romance with excitement and adventure Review: I don't usually care for romantic movies, but this film is an exception. It is a very touching and moving love story and has other fascinating characteristics too. The bombing of Dresden was an incredible part of the movie. The most amusing part was when the nun in chatechism class used her pointer to show where Heaven was for good Catholics vs Hell where heretics and Protestants go.
Rating: Summary: A romantic tale of life-long love Review: I found this to be one of the most romantic movies I've ever seen. It tells the story of Avik, a young Eskimo boy who meets Walter Russell (Patrick Bergin) when Walter comes to map his village. Avik discovers he has Tuberculosis, and Walter takes the young boy to Montreal where he stays at a Catholic hospital. There he meets Albertine, a young girl of mixed French Canadian and Indian blood. They grow attached to each other, in spite of the meddling of one of the nuns, played by Jeanne Moreau. Eventually, Avik and Albertine are separated. Avik returns to his village, and becomes a man. He finds he is ostracized by his fellow tribe, because he has lived too long among the white people.Avik as an adult is played by Jason Scott Lee. By this time, Canada is involved in World War II, and Avik joins the Air Force and flies on bombing raids. He is reunited with Albertine (Anne Parillaud) in London, who is also in the military. Unfortunately, so is Walter Russell. And it seems that he and Albertine have met and become romantically involved. Avik does not want to interfere in the relationship, because Walter saved his life. This is a story of two people who are truly in love, but whom the fates keep apart. An old theme, but with a new twist. I found it heart breaking and romantic. I loved the period portrayed. And the love scene atop the blimp is quite something! This film isn't for everyone, but if you like a good romantic tear jerker, this is for you.
Rating: Summary: My favorite movie ever! Review: I love this movie! It's heady sequencing and memory-intensive subtleties make it the most intoxicating film that I have ever seen! It's drama and intertwined themes of love and loss grab the heart (endearing it with qualities usually reserved for "chick flick") while its historic war sequences and swift changes make it as exciting as many action movies. While Amazon.com's reviewer speaks of its, "clunky transitions and the melodramatic excesses of the storytelling," I contend that those with an open mind will find this movie absolutely mesmerizing.
Rating: Summary: Worst Movie I ever saw Review: I often discuss with family and friends what the top ten movies of all time are. Much less frequently, we discuss the worst movies of all time. Recently, I was asked to name the worst movie I had ever seen. This is it. Can't add much to JK Reed's review. Pointless, boring, unromantic...it all fits.

Rating: Summary: This movie is one of those that keep you thinking Review: I saw this movie a couple ofyears ago and have thought of it many times and want to see it again. It's a beautiful story that also eduactes about life and other cultures. Be patient, the subtitles take some getting used to.
Rating: Summary: I saw this video 6 years ago and keep remembering it Review: If you are hungry for a video that has the quality of a classical drama, this is the one. IN some places, it's hard to find videos that make a good, everlasting, impression. The ending is sad, oh yes! The director wasn't forced to change the ending into, "happily ever after". I would hope that more people could respect true art when they see it.
Rating: Summary: Horrible. Don't waste your time Review: Incredibly slow, unromantic, boring and pointless. I count it as one of the few movies that I would have walked out on had I been by myself.
Rating: Summary: A perpetual flight on the wings of hope... Review: Love is a perpetual flight on the wings of hope and despair. And so is the search for a more humane world, free from the ravages of cultural imperialism. These are the themes, exquistely interwoven, of this delectable gem of a film... Full of sorrow and pity and the heartbreaking understated fleeting beauty of innocence about to be "legitimately" ravaged, this film takes flights of time and place, bringing out the fleeting and rarified gift of meaningful life itself, encouraging us all to grab that precious golden ring before we ourselves fly by into that dusky twilight of inconsolable regret. Shocking scenes of bombed Dresden only add to impact... Don't miss this one if you care about a better world.
Rating: Summary: flying machines whisk us to our horrors, our dreams, our love Review: never far from our observance, flying objects . . 'planes and barrage balloons, hot air balloons and flying snowmobiles lead us from the bleak dead ends of the ice packs to the indifference of the t.b. wards to to heat of dresden to the lilting joy of a wedding and back to the cold ice. in perhaps an idealistic vision . . but that's what makes it so surreal . . we follow holy boy's quest for life and love. anne parillaud is perfect as the just-unreachable prize of our dreams . . a hard edged beauty in gauzy soft focus. knowing her must be like snuffing a candle flame with the fingertips. in order to get the job done you know you're going to get hurt, if you're lucky, just a little. beautiful scenery.
