Rating: Summary: Wouldn't be the same without Canon in D Review: I first saw this movie because there was nothing else on HBO. When it began, the song Canon in D caught my attention, and I couldn't understand why such a beautiful song would be in what looked like it would be a very boring movie. When I got done with the movie, my eyes were red and puffy from crying. I think each of us can relate (spoiler) I recommend this movie to men, women, children, everyone I know loves it. The movie wouldn't be the same without the music. It seems to compliment it in the best way. I hope all who read this understand that ($) this movie is a bargain. Buy it while you can. I promise, it IS worth it.
Rating: Summary: Not in the top ten Review: I have to admit I also watched this movie for Russell Crowe. The characters are good and there are some interesting plot points but it is slow moving and I had to resist just turning off the T.V. a few times, but that was mostly due to the bad choice of music in a few scenes. It is a sweet movie and a treat to see Russell Crowe be so Australian....
Rating: Summary: loved it Review: I loved this movie and it broke my heart at the same time. I fell in love with the Russell Crowe caracter at the same time that the Christianne Hirt caracter did. From the beginning I was afraid that the end would have to be just the way it was and should have been prepared but when it actually happened, when she said goodbye, knowing that he may die and she would never see him again I found myself crying with her. There were many unpredictable and interesting twists in this movie and I give it my highest rating: I'll watch it again many more times, and probably fall in love and cry each time.
Rating: Summary: Fair dinkum, this is definitely better than stamps! Review: I must say that this is Russell Crowe at his best. It's not often that you get to see him playing his true nationality. The story of Lill and Lachlan is true romance at its best. I especially enjoyed the underlying story of Betsy and Zeek and I couldn't help wanting to know more about these two characters. The scenery and the music in the film is breathtaking and the two love stories give an insight of what it must of been like in 1942 to only have a short time with the people you love. Living in the UK I don't get to see much of Russell Crowe's early stuff, but this is definitely one I've added to my video collection. If you like a good love story (and Russell Crowe), I'd recommend it to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Great Movie Review: I really loved this movie. I just saw it on t.v and it was great. I really like Russell Crowe and in this movie he looks extremely cute. Im definetly gonna buy this.
Rating: Summary: medium-rare Review: I'll have to admit I bought this movie sight unseen just because it starred Russell Crowe. I'll also have to admit that I probably would not have liked this movie at all if he had not been in it. The story was lame, but I enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the great choice of music along with the outstanding performance by Russell Crowe. It was too bad that the other actors/characters were so weak.
Rating: Summary: Finally the whole movie! Review: If you are a Russell Crowe fan or a fan of the movie you can finally purchase the entire film on dvd from Amazon. I would not recommend purchasing the used dvds without contacting seller as previously this dvd was missing several whole scenes...this re-release is complete. A wonderfully done movie ... it is sad and sweet. A snapshot of one of the lesser known sides of WWII. The characters are endearing and funny, the plot moves along well and there is some wonderful photography. For Crowe fans his recital of "High Flight" is worth the purchase, not to mention a young Mr. Crowe at his most charming. NOt for those looking for an action war movie it is most definitely for the romantics out there.
Rating: Summary: For The Moment Steals Your Heart Review: If you liked the Bridges of Madison County then this flick is for you. Beautiful filming, believable characters, and lots of romance taking place during a very un-romantic period of time. Have your Kleenex by your side and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: "For the Moment" has its moments Review: It's easy to say the movie bogs down in mushy melodrama, but the way such opulent love is pitted against the tragedy of a war, the result is quite befitting. "For the Moment" plays out like the younger sister of "The English Patient", starting with a sublimely beautiful opening shot, and proceeding on to delicately break our hearts, even if the story seems too romantic to be plausible (which is not entirely true). There's a great performance from Crowe, and a notable one from Hirt. Great music and scenery. The movie can be described as nothing truly orginal, but hats off for the great effort and the way they expand on the theme. Even if it seems too goody-goody for it's own good, "For the Moment" does have its moments: Crowe's recital of "High Flight", the lovers singing "Waltzing Matilda", and several notably memorable lines of dialogue ("Best to just feel my way around.") It's worth a rental, but it's not terribly heavy stuff. Overall, not a bad movie.
Rating: Summary: For the Moment Review: Oh, my! I just really liked this one. Romance, beautiful scenery, my favorite period in history, the music . . . temptation under exceptional circumstances. This is a satisfying romance to get swept up and lost in. The characters are pretty much ordinary folks, who are likeable and well played. The story centers around an Australian pilot (Lachlan) taking his final training before going off to war, and a hometown Canadian girl (Lil) who tends the farm while her husband is overseas. Each is lonely and feeling the strain of being away from loved ones, when they meet through Lil's sister's boyfriend. It doesn't take long before free spirit Lachlan begins wooing Lil. Against her better judgement, she starts to look forward to seeing him. A week of married life and two years of separation have left her vulnerable and wracked with guilt over having human feelings beyond "waiting for his return". Of course, choices must be made, and the conclusion left me panting and with an ache in my heart.
