Rating: Summary: Sorry, But "Perfect" It Isn't Review: After asking this movie I feel compelled to ask "what were you thinking?" to a number of people: John Travolta, Jamie Lee Curtis, Director/Screenwriter James Bridges, and his collaborator, Aaron Latham. All of them (with the exception of Curtis) were involved in "Urban Cowboy", but apparently they went to the well one too many times with this picture. This movie is awful on so many levels. The script is bloated and pretentious, the directing is laconic, and the plot is predictable. Travolta and Curtis were annoyingly cute and cliche, and Marilu Henner is without a doubt the worst actress in Hollywood with the possible exception of Rosanna Arquette. This stinkburger of a movie put the brakes on a few careers or at least caused a downward spiral. Travolta went on to make even worse films (like "The Experts" and "Look Who's Talking") and practically couldn't get arrested until redeeming himself in "Pulp Fiction". Bridges didn't direct another film until the good but somewhat uneven "Bright Lights, Big City" (sadly, his last film). Curtis survived, but barely. Bad directing, bad casting, and a bad script do not make "Perfect" even mediocre. Walk away from this train wreck if you can.
Rating: Summary: Grainy, pan and scan Review: Columbia is notorious for choosing full frame (pan and scan) over letterbox or anamorphic widescreen formats. Not only is Perfect NOT perfect because it's pan and scan, but the picture quality is awful--lots of grain, despite the claims about a digitally restored pic on the jacket. Why spend your $$$ on this sloppy reissue when Amazon has thousands more to choose from....
Rating: Summary: Great DVD! Review: I have written a review about this movie earlier pertaining to the VHS version of this movie. I recently bought the DVD of "Perfect" and I must say it looks great. Very clear, and the sound is much improved from it's VHS counterpart. The only thing I am surprised at is that Columbia didn't present this movie in it's original cinemascope format. It's full-screen. The only time it goes into cinemascope is during the end credits. Basically, the DVD is just the video master transferred onto disc. It still looks better than the VHS version which seemed to be plagued with technical problems. This is from my experience, it took 6 tries at different stores to try and find a copy of this movie that played properly and not jittery or have tracking problems. The DVD looks clear, and the colours are vibrant. I am glad to see this movie offered on DVD because it's a nice slice of mid-80s nostalgia.

Rating: Summary: Excellent soundtrack if you can find it Review: I picked up the soundtrack on cassette tape after seeing this movie's first release. It was awesome and I listened to it all-the-time. Now of course, I can't find it anywhere. Every time our family stops at one of those ole-time truck-stops to get a burger or coffee, I always check out the old cassette bins. Last time, I found Shawn Philips Second Contribution ... not bad, but still not Perfect.
Rating: Summary: Anything but... Review: I saw this movie when it came out at the 7&27 Drive-in back in 1985. It was great then on the big screen, and I watched it whenever it came on TV. I remember it didn't do well at the box office, but it has always been a personal favourite of mine. I bought the VHS tape 2 yrs ago and have played it to death! I'm glad that Columbia has released it on DVD. Some of the plot drags, but the '80s style aerobic exercises give it the extra energy this movie needed. Speaking of exercise, it's interesting to see all the outdated ways to exercise in this movie. "Perfect" was made during the fitness boom of "going for the burn" & "no pain, no gain". Little did people know that doing those neck rolls like Jaime Lee Curtis does could lead you to a life in traction! All and all, "Perfect" will always be a fave of mine because of it's entertainment value and retro exercise routines...love those legwarmers!!

Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: I'm so glad 'Perfect' has been released on DVD. I'm sure my video tape is grateful after numerious viewings of this film. I don't see how some people don't like this film, I think it's quiet good. And for all the John Travolta fans out there, you will love the work out sessions in this film.
Rating: Summary: Words Just Can't Describe This One Review: Language fails as a medium for conveying observations about this film -- it is simply beyond intelligent description. I guess it could be called the movie which attempted to make its mark on society by establishing repeated pelvic thrusts as the core of a good aerobics workout but, despite the cast's best efforts, failed completely.
