Rating: Summary: GREAT MOVIE, GOOD DVD Review: I love this movie! Everyone should see this sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas! Julie Andrews and James Garner are great! It is funny, romantic, and sentimental. The DVD is good, too. There are some pictures from the movie, as well as a little documentary of them rehearsing a scene. That part is interesting. This was one of CBS's best specials that everyone should see, and own on DVD!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful, wonderful!! Review: I love this movie!! It's amazing!! Those of you who loved Julie and James in The Americanization of Emily and Victor/Victoria, I guarantee you will love this one. Everytime I rent it from my local library I end up watching it twice. It rocks!!
It is the story of a head strong, independent, recently widowed doctor (Julie) and an ex-felon, marine, male chauvanist pessimist carpenter who is losing his wife to Alzheimers (James). A strange twist of fate (and a wonderful plotline) put them together in a winter storm and then in a random cabin they find [Charlie and Robin's:):)]. Before they formally meet, each one is highly annoyed and aggravated by the other. When they finally introduce themselves and realize they are to spend the night together... well I'm not going to spoil it for you. Go watch it and I guanrantee you'll be smiling for days!!
One more comment. Holy cow, the ending is crazy. I'd take their chemistry over any couple on screen now-a-days. Rock on Julie Andrews and James Garner!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: It's a special night with One Special Night... Review: Julie Andrews and James Gardner are at their very best in this charming holiday tale of two lonely people finding their way to each other after the loss of their respective spouses to Alzheimer's and heart disease. Julie plays a fiesty surgeon who values her independence. James plays a construction foreman with a few old-fashioned notions about what women can/can't do, and the clash is inevitable! It's hilarious, sweet, and funny all at the same time. You'll LOVE watching this video and will surely want to add it to your personal collection. It's a classic for Julie Andrews fans!
Rating: Summary: A Blessing Review: What I love about this movie is that it is so personal (although I shouldn't assume to know): the peanut butter by the bed, her harsh depiction of herself as a child, her description of painting and her love of trees, her beliefs in what men and woman actually are (human beings), her praying for another child and God's answer, the perception of her as "mascaline" stemming from her intelligence and strong will, her concern about how people perceive her, the Channel perfume. I thank her for her vulnerability.
A scene I find most moving is her berating herself in bed, at night, alone. Well, that and her at the hospital, listening to him say that he was at the restaurant and the looks crossing her face as her emotions fluctuate from surprise, to distrust, to disgust, and finally to that sadness which is uniquely hers. Constantly cheering people up may have its rewards, but one must imagine the loneliness.
She and Jim obviously enjoy each other very much making the banter between them perfect. This movie is a keeper which people, little and big, will enjoy. It makes a great holiday tradition.
