Rating: Summary: Let the real Scarlett O'Hara please step forward!!! Review: Okay, lets get one thing straight. "Scarlett", is no sequel to possibly one of the greatest motion pictures ever made. It would be very hard to follow in those foot steps, but this made for t.v. soap opera can't even be compared. Even besides the sagging and unrealistic, and untrue to the characters, plot, the casting, music, production values,(virtually everything the original paid such close attention to), fall flat. The leading lady does not embody the essence of the character she is portraying, and I can not help being disstracted by her un-period hair and severe lack of fashion sense. Scarlett O'Hara wouldn't have been caught dead in some of those thrift store looking, we rented these costumes from a high school drama department, sad excuses for costumes. And could somebody have please popped in some green contacts for that woman! So the lack of very important details, took away from anything positive this movie could have possessed. Did the producers even see the original. I blame them for really screwing up what could have been something great. Margaret Mitchell and David O'Selznick are rolling over in their graves.
Rating: Summary: God help the man who ever really see's this movie... Review: I am a true Gone With the Wind fan, both of the book and the movie, and I have even read Scarlett a few times, a book that is not as good as GWTW, but can hold its own as a work of interest. I was excited to come across the DVD Scarlett and immediately purchased it. I was pleased to see that most of the first portion of the movie follows as closely to the book as it can with only subtle changes in plot. However, I was sorely dissapointed in the entire "Ireland" part of this movie. The manner in which the character of Colum O'Hara is portrayed disgusted me. Also, the Lord Fenton of the book is not very likable, but in this movie, he is repulsive. I hated the fact that Cat was pushed into the background, for in the book, she is one of the principle factors in the growing up of Scarlett. The entire situation in London with Scarlett, Mary, and Lord Fenton was absurd. Not only was it in no way whatsoever connected with the lovely plot of the book, it gave the entire movie a different mood. I refuse to believe that Alexandra Ripley had anything to do with the making of this movie, for no writer could concsiously allow her characters to be butchered in such a way as this. Don't waste your time or money on this movie, instead read the book, and enjoy Gone With the Wind without a movie sequel.
Rating: Summary: Go Read the Book... Review: The movie is ok but if you want a really fantastic story - read the book. I was very disappointed by how the movie does not follow the book. The murder trial was so different. So much more is involved in the book than could possibly be covered in the movie. I read the story aloud to my husband and even he was entranced. Thus we watched the movie and were sorely dissappointed.
Rating: Summary: I thought it was very good! Review: Well....I must admit that I am not a hard core Gone with the Wind fan. I have not read the books completely and went straight to watching the movies. I still know a lot about the books and things and know the controversies between the books and movies. I loved "Gone with the Wind" and i thought that this movie was just as good. Nothing could compare to the first one, but i thought that the second was very well done. The actors and actresses did great even though it was definitly hard to fill in the shoes of the originial actors. As far as the whole green eyes thing goes i just wanted to state that i watched the "GWTW" movie so many times and i noticed that even Viven Leigh's eyes weren't green...they were actually blue. So...not everything can be well done with characterizing. I would rather have a good actress with brown eyes play Scarlett's role than a terrible actress with green eyes. And sometimes in order for ppl to watch the movie that started off as a book and make sure the movie isn't to long a director as to change and add things to it. They risk that even knowing that fans of the books may not like it. All in all i give it two thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: Despite of the new actors the storyline is great Review: I loved gone with the wind, and this movie enhances the storyline to its fullest. Sure the actors can't compare to vivien leigh and clark gable but the story is not complete without this sequel. It adds very well to the old on and the romance is just as enjoyable as before. From the first to the last this was truly touching.
Rating: Summary: Keep it real, please! Review: I enjoyed the book Scarlett and have read it a few times. I was really excited coming across the DVD version of this movie (having missed it on TV years ago). But now, after watching it, I wished I had saved my money. The acting was fine, and I wasn't bothered like some with the casting. Someone made a point about green contacts, and I completely agree. Joanne Whalley is lovely, and if her large eyes were only green instead of dark brown, I think she would have been much more believable as Scarlett. And I know that eye color doesn't determine how much an actress is able to embrace a role, but Scarlet's green eyes are such a large and memorable facet of her character. Timothy Dalton as Rhett was a good choice--for fans of the movie, Clark Gable is Rhett, so Dalton had some impossible shoes to fill. Not too bad considering the task at hand. Now for the plot: the movie starts out fine. I was impressed with how it was staying pretty close to the storyline in the book. Usually screenwriters ruin perfectly fine plots in order to make a story more "commericial"--which is exactly what happened here by the 2nd half of the movie. Scarlett never grows like she does in the novel--She always remains prissy and fancy, unlike the adorable barefoot and pregnant Scarlett of the sequel--Lord Fenton becomes a disgusting main character--the Irish and the Fenian cause are pushed to the background to make way for murder and mayhem--and most importantly, Cat is barely heard from--Scarlett's little daughter, who becomes one of the most important (and interesting) characters in the book, is barely seen or mentioned. I was most disappointed by the movie's failure to show Scarlett's deep and changing relationship with her daughter. Read the book. Watch the movie just for laughs (which you will get--there is a trial scene at the end that I couldn't stop snickering at). But don't expect too much with this movie. It's rather disappointing.
Rating: Summary: No Stars At All (Would like to leave the rating blank) Review: To call "Scarlett" the sequel to Gone With The Wind took a lot of gall! I've read Alexandra Ripley's book and watched the movie and tried to capture the GWTW essence, but as hard as I tried to like the book AND the movie (Scarlett), I can't bring myself to give it any rating at all. Let's just leave it where Rhett left Scarlett at the door saying, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." It's kept audiences guessing for over 60 years, and the magic of GWTW never faded. "Don't fix it when it ain't broke."
Rating: Summary: This has nothing to do with the book!!!! Review: I accept the fact that movie scripts have to change small details in the books in order to be made. After all, these are 2 different types of media. I don't expect the actors to be identical to Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh, even though they'd serve as good insperation (which they haven't, in case anyone was wondering). But as the movie kept on going, its story line drifted further and further away from the book's. I don't want to spoil the 'experience' for people who were lucky enough not to see this movie yet, but let's just say that the only things in common the book's ending and the movie's ending are the fact that Scarlett is in danger, and Rhett saves her. If you MUST insist on watching this, please go to your video library first!
Rating: Summary: Don't Judge The Book By the Movie Review: I am a huge fan of Gone With the Wind. From the time I read the book when I was around twelve, I fell in love with it. Alexander Ripley's sequel, Scarlett, was also a pretty good book. It was creative and I loved how Scarlett grew and the storyline. It gave a sort of closure. Of course, no one can expect it to be anywhere near the original, but it was a damn good job. The movie, however, isn't nearly as good as the book. Read the book. Skip the movie. No one but Vivien Leigh could ever play Scarlett, so they shouldn't even try.
Rating: Summary: Ishy Review: Definitely no Gone With the Wind or anything remotely comparable, but so decidedly better than the awful book it was based on, it's actually watchable if not a bit enjoyable. They fleshed out the weak storyline of the novel and gave the characters much more depth. In the book, it's seems like you're in a haze instead of in the story and the Irish revolution is so unbelievable, I find Battlestar Gallatica more realistic.
