Summary: Best movie I've seen in awhile....
Review: I LOVED this movie. I could connect with it so well because I've gone through pretty much the exact same situations. I really can't express how wonderful I thought this was.....the dialogue just reminds me so much of things that I've said and felt. Any younger woman with an "untouchable" crush should watch this. The struggle of wanting someone so badly and then actually getting it and having the glamour taken out of it....I truly hail this as one of my favorite movies of all time. ... Definetely worth more than 5 stars...

Summary: such an honest film
Review: most of the people who think this movie is another dumb teen flick, you are so wrong. i think this movie is so honest because it tells an honest story about a teenage girl , Andrea Marr , who seeks fame. it is true that during our prime time, we tend to try to poke in the famous bunch [but this "famous bunch" isn't like the stupid girls you see in "Clueless", it is more on the "rock and roll" side] , try to date the famous guy [who happens to be Sean Patrick Flannery, the rockstar] and pride ourselves into our success. this is exactly what this movie is all about. how everyone wants to be something. and then, there's a moral in the story. it is where we don't need to be ANYONE except ourselves. this is where after all the popularity, Andrea Marr decides to leave it all behind and continue her education in Brown University. What i love about this movie is also how her actions often contradict what she tells herself/what she thinks. It often happens to us too. Like for example, when we know it's just plain silly to try to date a famous rockstar but when he happens to ask us out, we can't help saying no. Andrea Marr is smart. She's conscious of the things she does yet, she is just like any of us who wants to be part of something. I also love the witty script and also, you rock girls might want to learn a thing or two about dressing up in this movie. This is a really beautiful and amazing film. At least try watching it and ignore what these bad reviewers have to say. I'm not being a sexist or something, but i really think this movie is for girls, and that explains the title. No matter how cool or hip you think you are, we are bound to end up in a dilemma like Andrea Marr. Watch it!

Summary: One of my favorite movies
Review: I don't know what was wrong with some of these reviewers, but I really enjoyed this movie the first time I saw it a couple years ago. I thought it was really interesting, and it is one of my favorite movies. "Girl" turned me on to the independent film scene. Of course this movie isn't going to be incredible--it's just an indie. Nonetheless, it was great. I honestly think this is one of Dominique Swain's best movies. I recently watched "Dead in the Water" and "The Smokers"--also starring Swain--and they didn't even compare to "Girl". "Girl" is so much better. Despite bad reviews on Amazon.com, I strongly recommend at least RENTING this movie. However, I think it is good enough to BUY! It's a must-see for yourself movie.

Summary: Terrible!
Review: I did not know until I read these reviews that this is based on a novel, and perhaps if you've read the story, you can get more from this. But it does not stand as a movie on its own. Absolutely awful. Apart from Swain, the acting is terrible, the dialogue cliched and the characters uninteresting. Tara Reid's character is unwatchable. It operates on a very thin premise, that is further weakened by a lack of real humour or intelligence. The concluding events are sudden and out of place and clearly an ill attempt at creating some shock drama. Do not waste your time.

Summary: It was okay...
Review: When I first saw Girl, it was at the end and I never saw it from the beginning. In some kind of stroken luck, I actually got to see it. I was appalled and intrigued by what I watched. Appalled because the girl followed him around like some sick puppy, and that she lost her virginity to some guy because he had his album. I was intrigued though because I have always wanted to know what went on behind the scenes of these rock concerts(and no I am not a pervert), because they make these types of movies where the guy sticks with her and she goes wherever he goes. Plus she dumped him. I don't know if I would reccomend this movie, but I would definitely watch it every once in a while.

Summary: blake nelson's book is better
Review: this movie was okay just because it was so different than most teen movies but it didn't get the book's message at all. Andrea is not a groupie, I don't know why they thought she was. The book was about how she watches her friend Cybil become this cool grunge rock chick (and a lesbian). It's about growing up and what happens to out-there people like Cybil, who is a joke in the movie.

Summary: Disappointment
Review: I know it's common that the 'book is always better than the movie', but this movie couldn't have done anything but hurt the book.
Thank GOD I read the book first or I never would have and would have missed out on an amazing story.
The movie cheapens everything that was magical about Blake Nelson's novel and cuts out the parts that they obviously think will travel right over movie-watcher's heads.
Read the book please, skip the movie.

Summary: I would create a fan club for this movie
Review: When I saw this movie I thought someone else had my exact same life. When I rushed to the back cover and found out a man directed the movie and it was based on another man's novel, I was stunned. Then I knew. I absolutely have a soul-mate.

Being a groupie is an influx of tons of different emotions. The atmosphere surrounding bands is definitely a "scene". This movie captured it all. The lead singer, tormented, egotistical, but mesmirizing. The cool girls who always know what to say and how to act. The boy in the crowd, who could be nice, witty, and wonderful, but would only turn into a bore to a youthful girl. But most of all, the emotionally developing girl who hasn't yet discovered her own special beauty.

If the story stopped there, it would have been enough for me. But the intimacy of female friendships, the perils of high school, and the big virginity factor were all explored with such amazing accuracy to real life. Even the parent parts were great.

If you ever cried over a boy who seemed to good to be true, only to discover he wasn't all that great after all, you need to see this movie.
