Summary: good movie, good feelings...
Review: Although this move reminds of another movie involving a character who is unwillingly outcast by the outside world becuase of unearthly powers (the movie would be Powder), It has more of closeness and heart. Besides allowing us to think about the potential we all have, it also reveals how cruel we can be to those who are different. The movie showed us honesty, our fears, our reflection of Life and the relationship potential.

Review: I don't understand the people who give 5 stars to this film. It isn't a bad movie but if you are a J.travolta fan you gonna love this film. I'm not a fan of John Travolta and I think that this film doesn't deserve 3 points.

Review: I am amazed at the way people throw around 5-star reviews on this site. If Phenomenon is the best movie you've ever seen, then you haven't seen enough movies.This is the story of a guy that gets hit by some sort of ball of alien light, which gives him clarity of mind and memory, telekinetic powers and limitless energy. Meanwhile, everyone else in the movie has an IQ of about 50 or below -- from his auto-mechanic friends to the town doctor to the federal government goons that take him into custody. If you want to watch an unintentional comedy, here's your movie.

Summary: Why would Touchstone cut out scenes on the DVD release?
Review: I loved the movie when it came out, and would rate the video or original release 4-5. It is a touching story of an average person demonstrating that we all have the potential to be more than we ever imagined. I was disappointed that the DVD cut out several scenes, like Kyra Sedgwick's character going to the local bar looking for John Travolta's character after he disappeared. Another small scene of collecting flowers with Kyra's character children. I would have liked to have seen more extras, like a mention of how the writer developed the storyline. What books or other videos on the subject influenced this movie. It rates a 3 because on DVD where you can do so much more, taking out scenes seems like a waste.

Review: What stand out for me in movies are 'moments', very special ones that have a life of their own. This movie has many of these moments, not the least of which is Travolta's final one. Underrated on many levels, it deserves much more praise than it has received.

Review: Phenomenon is an engaging movie with unexpected twists and reversals. Travolta's character, George Malley, is a simple, gentle person who is mysteriously given the gifts of great insight and intelligence on his 37th birthday. While the movie is a study in human reactions to difference and the unknown, I found its probing the realm of human potential to be thought provoking and inspirational.

Summary: A thought-provoking, surprisingly fascinating video.
Review: I have avoided seeing this movie for the past two years because I was under the impression it was about UFO's, telekinesis, and the like. When a friend recommended it to me recently, I reluctantly watched it. I found it to be one of the most interesting movies I have seen in years. The "magical" events do not dominate the story as I thought they would. Instead, we see the reaction that heightened peceptivity and sensibility provoke in the general population when they appear in one special person. Travolta's abilities appear magical, but there is a rational reason for them, and that plays a key role in the movie. (I do not want to give the plot away). I noticed a key bit of dialogue involving D.H. Lawrence and "Lady Chatterly's Lover," making me aware that the writer was very familiar with the essence of the novel. In fact, the movie reminded me of the perceptivity of D.H.L. and the reception his novels, poems, and essays got from the general public. His sensitivity, I am sure, was enhanced by his struggle with the dire circumstances of his life, as is Travolta's. The story is enhanced by the pairing of two people who are hurting from the blows life has dealt them. In a pleasant change from the habit modern movies have of having lovers couple "in the first reel" so to speak, this couple has first to work through their problems and hesitations before they can become intimate. To me their progress in getting to know each other slowly and trustingly was realistic and inspiring. Spectacular UFO effects and mind-bending tricks do not dominate this video; in fact, they scarcely enter. What we have is a fascinating study of a "different" human being and his convoluted interactions with conventional society.

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER MADE!
Review: This is one of the best movies that I have ever seen. It stars John Travolta, Krya Sedwick, Forrest Whittaker, and Robert Duvall. It is about a man who, on his birthday, sees a bright light. Suddenly he is able to figure out things that confused him before. His friends can't figure out what is different about him, and they turn on him, calling him names and shunning him in public. Only his best friend, doctor and girlfriend stay with him and believe in him. This movie is a real tear jerker. You can't help but to like (or love) John Travolta's character!
