Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: There's a couple things that bothered me about this movie. For one, the argument between the two main characters when the man discovers the woman's secret is so dumb. With all the happiness they seemed to have found, for an honest fumble like the woman's to make the man walk away didn't seem believable. It's not like she was being viscious; she was afraid to lose him, and this explanation was so believable that the man should have accepted it and even marvelled at the fate that brought them together rather than get as angry as he did. But what I hated most was the way this movie ended. It left me feeling empty. In some movies, a sad ending works; in this one it didn't. Sometimes death means something, and sometimes it's just senseless. I live in a world where senseless tragedy abounds; I watch movies to escape that reality. I watch movies to visit a world where events no matter how tragic make sense. I don't buy any counterarguments that's that what made this movie so great, the reality edge it had in it. If that's what you're looking for, watch this movie; but, if like me, you like happy endings, or sad endings that at least seem worth it in the grander scheme of things, stay away like the plague, because you'll feel cheated out of what might have otherwise been a decent movie.
Rating: Summary: A must see.... Review: I'm not sure why everyone is so critical about the movie not being exactly like the book...go read "Gone With The Wind" and then see the movie...they too are dramatically different! "Message in a Bottle" starts off slow, but picks up steam as it goes along. As a die hard Kevin Costner fan, he is gorgeous and does a fabulous job...but Paul Newman really is the show stopper! So...read the book and enjoy, but always expect differences in the movie!
Rating: Summary: Great Love Story! Review: Critics may not have like this film but it was really romantic and touching. A must film for any one who loves great romance!
Rating: Summary: A pretty good love story Review: When I first heard of this movie I did not want to go and see. Then a couple of weeks after its release people told me to go see, but I didn't see it at the movie theater. I rented it today and it was a pretty good film I have seen better though. The begining was boring, but it picked up from there. The ending was so sad, but like most of these movies you can predict how they end. I geuss this would be one of those movies I would watch again.
Rating: Summary: A Must See Review: Costner was great as usual, but Paul Newman stole the show in this wonderful drama. As for it being different from the book, it doesn't matter. As an avid movie fan and with some experience in converting books into screenplays, I know it is necessary to change the plot. Movies and books are different. Books are geared more at a certain group - those who can handle boring parts that are furthering the plot. When you see a movie, you don't expect that. Every scene has to be interesting or it's not a good movie. So, the screenplay writers have to make changes that will make the movie move along faster and with more exciting things. Otherwise you have a 5 hour, boring movie, and who wants to see that? The point is, don't let the changes bother you. It's a terrific movie, full of romance, and it makes you think about what you have.
Rating: Summary: A must see for the Kevin Costner fans. Review: I watched the movie before I read the book and I loved them both. The movie was so moving and beautifully written that I decided to buy the book. I couldn't put the book down. I would recommend seeing the movie and reading the book, in any order that you want. Kevin Costner is so sexy and made the movie one that I am going to buy as soon as it comes out.
Rating: Summary: Lovely Review: I'd like very much to see it again and 4 sure I'll do 'cause is a wonderfull movie which has a beautifull story and atmosphere. It makes you feel like you are in another world, very romantic, but also sad.For me, this movie is very special also because I've seen it in one of the most romantic places in the world: Paris.
Rating: Summary: Great story ~ an O.K. adaption for the screen. Review: The book was hard to put down. The story was wonderful. The movie left out some of the details from the book and invented others. (Typical of book to movie translations). However, it is a movie I will probably see again.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly moving! Review: In response to those who complain about the differences between the book and the movie - that's why they call them movies! Why else would Aunt Bea wear a winter coat while Andy only wears his shirt sleeves or Elvis Presley water ski in a windbreaker! Both the book and the movie were beautiful, moving experiences. Kevin Costner was perfect for the movie and my,has he ever aged gracefully.
Rating: Summary: Thought movie must better than book Review: I really do. I think that the changes in the movie made the story line much better. To me, it made the movie a more powerful love story. I loved it and can't wait to buy it when it is released.
