Summary: Love flies with wings...
Review: A doctor who knew to only believe in what she could see, what she could do. An angel who wanted nothing more than to feel, taste, and smell...to be with her. This love story takes you into to worlds, of humans and angels, and shows the possibilites of love when the two collide. An awesome musical score is used, great acting by Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. This film holds a miraculous theory of the lives of angels, and how humans can, in turn, help them. If you find that love is worth falling for, this one is for you.

Summary: Very nice movie
Review: This is a very nice love story, one of the best love movies I have ever seen. I also really liked the way it shows that you cannot believe only in materialism and that there's nothing beyond, as that's a very empty life. It may be happy in its own (blind) way, but it's actually very empty. This is what a young doctor (Meg Ryan) discovers and decides to change. The movie is very sweet throughout, but not sappy. Beware, as it's not a happy movie, though!

Summary: Very well-made; and very depressing
Review: Depending on what mood you're in when you watch, this may or may not be the movie for you. The whole plot is very interesting, and it does tell a story-but the end was a big shocker.

~*Warning-the next part contains spoilers*~

Meg Ryan[ Maggie, a doctor] and Nocholas Cage[Seth, an angel] first see each other as Maggie loses a patient on her operating table. As she gets to know Seth better, it is revealed that people do die, but apparently not on her table. She falls apart when this man dies, and Seth follows her out into an empty hallway where she sobs. Maggie can't see Seth at first, but after awhile she can. She doesn't believe in angels, but about halfway into the film she discovers what Seth is when she cuts him and he doesn't feel anything. Also when he won't answer simple questions she asks. She is also in a relationship with a fellow doctor, but you know that isn't going anywhere. Maggie also gets tips about what Seth is from a fellow angel who turned human, Nathaniel Messenger[Dennis Franz]. Maggie breaks the relationship with Seth off at first because she wants to feel his touch and she can't. So Seth jumps from a building and when he wakes up, he sees blood on his hands. He has become human. He goes to Lake Tahoe to find Maggie. He finds her, and she says she couldn't marry her boyfriend because she loves Seth. The next morning, they talk about how it will be ust the two of them forever. Cute story, huh?

Now it gets ugly.

Later that morning, Seth takes a shower while Maggie goes for a bike ride. She holds out her hands, closes her eyes and looks toward the sky. She looks as thought she is praying. Just as her eyes open, she sees a truck come in front of her. Seth senses something is wrong and he tracks her down. He comes onto the road to find a truck in the road. Maggie is next to the truck. He goes to her, and at first she starts to cry and she tells him he is scared. She says she is sorry she screwed up, she wanted to show him everything. Seth says she doesn't know what it means to be with her and to touch her. Maggie starts to become disoriented and distant, but Seth pushes her to look into his eyes, even when she sees people in the distance. "Is this what happens?" she asks, and Seth knows what's going to happen. "When they ask me what I liked best...I'll tell them it was you", is what she says next. Then, slowly, her face becomes totally still, tears and all, but she is still looking at Seth as she promised. I feel so torn, because while this is the worst possible ending imagine, it is the most beautiful and involving scene in the whole film. You want everythign to turn out alright. But in the end it kinda does, because Seth knows he'll be in heaven with Maggie again someday.

Overall, though, this was an excellent film. I give it 3 and a half stars, because it was definitely not the greatest thing ever, but it delivered the message it was supposed to. I also like how you can hear what thre humas are thinking sometimes. For instance, when a store owner is being robbed, you hear him thinking about his family and the vacation he never took. You also hear what people in the store are thinking. It's a movie that makes you think, and wonder about the everlasting mystery of death. As I think about it, the ending wasn't a disappointment, because you see a woman who never knew what she was fighting with when she saves lives, and at the end she is so calm and peaceful when she dies.

Summary: Smooth and Sad
Review: This movie is the most interesting movie that I've ever seen. It's funny how there aren't that many lines in it. Compared to other movies, though. The end is perfect
Recomended to ANYONE!! GOOD MOVIE!!

Summary: Hackneyed
Review: Nicolas Cage does his usual one-note basset hound turn in this ham-handed Hollywood reworking of a classic film, with a ridiculous ending that not only proves that the writers missed the point of the original, but completely undermines the idea of wanting to look at life through the eyes of the angel -- that love inspires one to appreciate life fully with all the senses. True romantics would do well to skip this mess and stick with "Wings of Desire."

Summary: An exploration of the divine power of love
Review: How can any film that opens with the death of a little girl and ends with a tragedy be so uplifting and happy? Well, the real subject of City of Angels is the overwhelming power of love to redeem life itself. The cinematography is especially good. The cast is wonderful and the story unusual. An interesting, worthwhile film.

Summary: A-Must-See For Lovers
Review: Cage plays an angel who smittens with a cardiology surgeon, played by Ryan. Cage falls to earth to be with her. Charming, sensual, thoughtful, and great. Lonely? Been awhile? Spark new romance back in your life. Bring your partner. This movie is sure to get her insides wet. Don't forget to cuddle after the surprise ending. She'll need it.

Summary: two great actors one bad movie
Review: Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan are fine actors who have made excellent films, so why they jumped aboard this is anyones guess. Meg Ryan is a doctor who loses a patient. Cage is the angel that takes the soul away. Ryan is beside herself with grief and anger, cage is puzzled at first by her reaction then as he visits more falls in love.
It reminded me of the sort of film you would agree to go to on a first date. Lots of people will say there is a deep profound hidden message about vulnerability, love and the human spirit, but I just wanted to be entertained. PS Bad ending also.

Summary: Great premise, terrible movie
Review: I love Meg Ryan, and like Nicholas Cage, and wound up renting this movie in the hope of seeing a romantic, lush movie. The movie starts off slow - and then just gets slower. Cage is moody and somewhat one-dimensional, Ryan is great but not enough to carry the picture.
I could have walked away with a good feeling overall if the "twist" at the ending hadn't been ridiculous and frustrating. Who wants to see a movie with an unhappy & depressing ending?
Save your money - and your time. City of Angels made me wish for a prescription of Prozac.
