Review: This movie is long & drawn out, & doesn't really get interesting until almost an hour & a half into it. Hilary Swank's acting is excellent in the dramatic scenes, but isn't really very convincing as a guy. I think this one's overrated.

Review: Boys Don't Cry is one of those movies that you want to watch again and again. Hilary Swank is excellent in her oscar winning role of Teena Brandon{Brandon Teena}. But the best acting MUST go to Chloe Seginey for her portrail of Lana. She and fellow best supporting actress Angelina Jolie both should have won best supporting actress. Boys don't cry cannot be missed! Boys don't Cry A+

Review: This movie was the most touching movie I have seen in a VERY long time. I was left in a state of shock at the end - I can't believe this was a true story. Hilary's acting was excellent and the director definitely deserves many awards for this picture. I recommend this movie to everyone.

Review: Swank's performance was devastating. Never before have I seen a performance that so deeply and touchingly revealed the soul of another human being. She has raised the standard for cross-gendered performances and for that matter, all acting performances in general. Her portrayal will become legendary.

Summary: By far the most disturbing movie I've seen
Review: I applaud the actresses, actors, and directors for bringing such a heartfelt story to the screen. The depth in which this movie is delivered strikes to the core of thos who can see beyond the stereotypes and let the story weave its tale of raw emotion, and vulnderality. I found myself captivated by Brandon, and finding myself drawn to the innocence, wanting to reach in and deliver him from an ending that is all too tragic. If one can envision a theatre of hundreds, watching the end...the final moments...the collective deep breath...it was as if a little piece of "us" went out to Brandon.

Summary: Tough but rewarding
Review: Difficult but immensely challenging and rewarding movie about Brandon Teena / Teena Brandon, the girl who disguised herself as a boy to escape her past and wound up paying heftily for her choices. Hilary Swank's performance is now the stuff of near-legend; like any great actor, she simply embodies rather than "portrays" her character. Film also avoids sentimentality: if anything, it's a little too hard-edged. Be sure to also check out "The Brandon Teena Story", the real-life documentary of these events, as well.

Summary: If I wasn't from Falls City NE I wouldn't have watched it.
Review: That's right, I was born and raised in Falls City, NE. John Lotter used to chase me home from elementary school, I had a locker next to Marvin (Tom hated being called that) when I was a sophmore in high school. He used to drink peach snaups out of a Pepsi can. John was MUCH meaner looking and Tom A LOT dorkier. Though I thought the actors betrayed Lana and her white trash friends brilliantly. But as the title of this review says, I wouldn't have watched it if I wasn't from Falls City myself.

Summary: Deep and honest and I loved it
Review: The true story behind "Boys don't Cry" tells about crimes committed, lousy judgment, and bad company. Kimberly Pierce includes it all but still manages to show a loving courageous person who mixed practicality and sensitivity with a stubborn desire to live a full life on his terms. Hilary Swank deserved the Oscar for her affecting performance as a transsexual trapped by lies and circumstances but never giving up on his dreams. The film was deep and honest and I loved it.

Review: but their is something that doesn't ring true about the film.They're supposed to be a bunch of hicks(rustics if you prefer) but they sit around listening to X and Roky Erickson.Wouldn't they be jamming to Billy Ray Cyrus and Skid Row out in the boondocks in'93?I only point it out because it is indicative of the only flaw with this film but a major one I felt. That this film was made by New York art dweebs that idealize what it is to be white trash. On the whole the film was a lot more engrossing then I thought it would be.

Summary: Why This Movie Deserves More Credit...
Review: I know that most of you that gave this movie three stars or less were disgusted and shocked by it. I think that what most of you felt was the prime tool used in the attempt to make an impact with its audience: shock value. I have to admit, I cringed a little bit when I was watching the lesbian sex scenes, but I had to remind myself that relationships like that are going on EVERYWHERE. Then there's the strange behavior of each character with the exception of Chloe Sevigny and Hilary Swank. Everyone drinks all day and gets high every night in a dark and foreboding wasteland called Falls City, Nebraska, bumper skiing and generally acting like a bunch of idiots. Trailer trash, to put it simply. Everyone is warped in their own weird way, whether it be from something behavioral or something sexual. I also had to remind myself that there's trailer trash like that EVERYWHERE too. Most people know this, know that they can go into a bad part of town and see it instead of turning on their televisions and have to watch it, but I think that's what this movie needed. All throughout, there's a strong sense of discomfort for every subject. That's life. There's always going to be something that people don't like to talk about, that they won't admit or they're trying to avoid, that they're biased against or have a deep hatred for. Homosexuality, dysfunctional families, drugs, alcoholism and indecent behavior are all the integral parts for a depraved story such as this one, and the raw manner in which it was directed was the foundation for the shock value and the disturbing but all too real truth, sad as it may be. Things as crazy and depressing as this happen everyday. This movie is a sad reminder of murders such as the inhumane ending of the life of Matthew Sheppard, a gay high school student who was harrassed and finally killed by fellow classmates. There's not a glint of hope throughout the film, but the performances are what make this movie watchable. Hilary Swank is unbelievably convincing, her mannerisms and boyish charisma endearing and impressive. Chloe Sevigny is her right-hand, a powerful and emotional addition to the ill-fated romance that they share, and the blind love that tenaciously survives even after Brandon Teena's true identity is painfully revealed. I have to admit, the shock value worked on me, especially during the final half hour of the movie when all the prejudice and hate in the world unite to reveal the hideous face of evil, once again taking more human lives. Even though there are several warning labels posted in these customer reviews, please give this film a fighting chance. It will touch you in its own way, and it will teach you more than expect to learn.
