Summary: Refresing and Nostalgic Charmer -- Buy It!
Review: Love and Basketball is loaded with cliches. The writing is solid, but not special. The film feels a bit long and tedious.

Yet, we absolutely love this film!

We have viewed this film at least five times. Following each viewing, we have become more engrossed with the story of Quincy and Monica.

Superior acting joins this life-then-sports story to engross and mesmerize the audience. The actors and director inject Halle Berry-body into a Calista Flockhart-script. Lesser actors would have failed first-time diretor Gina Prince.

Lathan and Epps give superior performances -- subtle and highly effective. They believably portray high school teens and world-hardened adults. Lathan is budding into a superstar. Epps acts better than most superstars.

Love and Basketball offers fresh perspective on young love between two people who happen to be African-Americans. Do not let the title fool you -- this story focuses on love first, and how love finds a home between these two basketball players. The basketball theme highlights the mental and physical preparation necessary to win, not live competition.

Also refreshing: this is a sports story told from the point-of-view of Lathan's character. She is driven, yet sensitive. You will root for this character who is, "still a cocky (...)."

Furthermore, this film is not an "urban" drama. Actors of any race could have played the major roles.

The soundtrack provides historical and romantic perspective. This film will make you remember the wonderful joys of young love and the accompanying inexperience.

Summary: A Truly Remarkable Film
Review: I thought this was truly one of the best movies that have been released recently. I didn't get a chance to see it in the movies but I did rent it, now I am buying it for my own collection at home. First of all, Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps did a beautiful job portraying Monica and Quincy. They put so much feeling into the characters that it made you feel for them during the ups and downs in this film. Secondly, the story line was excellent. For once it was a film that was believable. It wasn't so obvious from the beginning how it was going to end. I would highly recommend this movie for anyone who is looking for a movie that has excellent performances and direction.

Summary: I LOVE this movie
Review: You don't even have to like basketball to love this movie. At first I was turned off to the fact that "basketball" was in the movie title. But after watching it, I realized that this is one of the best love stories I've ever seen. You can feel the chemistry between Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan's characters. I can't say enough good things about this movie...

Summary: It's about time...
Review: we get a well done romantic movie for younger and older people. I rarely watch or read romantic novels or films, but I watched this one three times.

No it's not a deep, intellectual film, but I think about how important this film is for young African people who rarely get to see a well done coming-of-age romantic movie. I also like the character development in this movie--whereby actors Omar Epp and Sanaa Lathan acted like a real Black couple in love.

And yes, this movie may not really be about race or Black culture, it does show something about love and Black love that is so often missing in hip-hop music and films.

Summary: Don't Be Fooled By The Cheesy Trailors
Review: First off the trailor made me not want to see this at first as it made me think i was watching a mushy love story/sport's film. This movie is so much more than that . First off Sanaa Lathan give's a oscarworthy performance as a girl basketball player even though in real life she is a short cute little barbie girl .Although Epps performance doesn't stand up to hers he is still plausable and clearly has good chemistry with his female lead.Any how i like how this movie shows the differences in how guy and girls basketball players get treated and I also like that they used a lot of real players in this movie and I didn't even know there were until i heard the directors commentary .Everything works here great music ,great performances from even the supporting charecters which is truly underappreaciated in films today ,I wish there was more scene's with alfre woodard who played sanna's mom as there relationship should have been explored more . Anyhow this is a great movie for anyone black/white old/young male/female . A true winner which is hard to find in any hollywood film these days

Summary: A Romantic Love Story
Review: Love and Baseketball is the best Drama/Romance film ever created. The movie captivates Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan's acting skills. The two main characters are Monica (Sanaa Lathan), and Quincy (Omar Epps). Monica and Quincy were next door neighbors that eventually fell in love over the years. The two were inseperable until their love for the game interfred with their relationship, causing the two to seperate. Monica's top priority was to play professional baseketball, her strive and determination helped her to accomplish such a goal. Quincy held animosity towards Monica, leaving an empty space in his heart he wanted to fill. Quincy's heart was filled when he met a young stuartist. In result, he proposed and set a date to get married. Monica was destroyed after hearing such news, and her feelings were rekindeled, deciding to play Quincy for his heart in a game of baseketball. Monica loses, but still holds on to the love of her life. Ending with the two living happily ever after with Monica playing in one of the best women baseketball leagues (L.A. Sparks. Overall the movie was outsanding. I can watch it over and over again and still enjoy it as much as I did the first time I watched Love and Baseketball.

Review: This movie is the real deal! I love to watch it all the time. SANAA LATHAN(MONICA) is hot! OMAR EPPS(Qunicy) is fun to watch! Just a great film to watch with your girl. It shows that relationships can go through hard times, but they can make it if it's meant to be....

Summary: Simply Wonderful!
Review: Love & Basketball is a wonderful, down to earth movie. I think this is a realistic movie. I give it all A's. I am a big fan of Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan. I don't think the writer/director could have picked any two people that were better.

This movie has a great soundtrack, and setting. The music is absolutely "the bomb", ya gotta get the soundtrack. And I thought the upper-middle class life that Quincy and Monica live added a lot to the movies message.

This movie was about love, basketball, and following your dreams. I would recommend this movie to all. Epps and Lathan... TWO THUMBS UP!!!!
