Summary: A great movie for everyone
Review: I thought this movie was fantastic! I have read the book, and although the movie didn't follow exactly, it was still a wonderful story. Robert Redford and Kristin Scott Thomas are wonderful, the scenery is beautiful, and the story is heartwarming. I recommend this movie to anyone.

Review: The movie the Horse WHisperer was one of my favorite movies ever made. It shows the sorrow of a young girl who lost her best friend to a truck accident. I loved the plot. It made me want to go to Montana. I absolutely loved it!

Summary: Typically great one for Redford
Review: Robert Redford has learned the art of crafting a film. With the exception of a couple of brief and relatively mild expetives, this film told more than one story of self-realization. From a young woman learning to express feelings to her mother's understanding that corporate life is not the end-all, be-all to life. Discovering the value of family over the corporate world's rush for self-absorption and greed, was a great lesson for my 10 year-old daughter to observe. The romantic side of the story worked as if lifted from Bogart and Bacall or Spencer and Hepburn. No explicit sex scenes. Just well orchestrated passion that even my daughter could observe and discuss after we saw the film. Five stars for Redford who understands plot and cinematography better than most directors. With a feel for the European style of thoughtful closure more than the American need for slam-bang closure, the ending allows for the mind to construct what we believe should be the ending of this touching saga. Perhaps this has to come from artists who, like Redford, are Renaissance types active in environmental and children's causes. He is a film-maker who directs from the heart. The Horse Whisperer is a great example of this. Maybe there is hope for Hollywood yet.

Summary: I commend Robert Redford for having morals.
Review: I never read the book, but my daughter did. After the movie was over, she filled me in on the ending in the book. I feel that the character portrayed by Robert Redford was a commendable one. He had the wonderful forsight to actually give the character morals in a day and age where divorce is so easy, and every other movie our teenagers watch gives them the impression that it is okay to cheat on your spouse. The movie was a tear jerker, and the ending was one that will be remembered.

Summary: Strong story, excellent actors, incredible visuals and sound
Review: Beautifully filmed and brilliantly acted, the Horse Whisperer is as much about ordinary people's lives and values as it is about the tragedy of one family. The director shows, in a key scene and throughout the film, how a moment's decision (an impulse, a mishap) can affect and alter so many lives around us. The film score by T. Newman -- especially in the integral scene of the horse/truck accident -- is amazing. This is a lengthy film, but worth every minute. [NOTE: You may want to try taking an intermission, spending an hour or two at another activity, then returning to view the rest. This increased my appreciation of the film.] Scenery is panoramic and stunning, at times reminding me of Andrew Wyeth, at other times just presenting one of the loveliest locations in the US. The actors have strength and a sure understanding of their characters. Along with the tragedy and despair, we have humor. Life on a ranch in the West is contrasted with life in New York City. The love story is rather subtle at times, more given to signalling than statements, eye contact rather than clinches. This appears to be more honest that most Hollywood representations of passion and devotion. The end of the film, which is also the end of the romance, is merely lacking in a few lines of dialog that would explain just why the lovers are parting; otherwise, the Horse Whisperer is visionary, artistic, and haunting. If you are fond of horses, landscapes, good music scoring, characters, romance, honesty, cultural studies, this film is a pure pleasure.

Summary: Great flick to view with your kids
Review: I read the book, then saw the movie with my 12 year old daughter who had recently undergone brain surgery. I also have three horses which are ridden for amatuer showing and trail riding. I liked the end of the movie being different than the book. Of all the cowboy friends that I have, NONE of them would have stood still for the book ending. I thought that the movie ending was classy and right. Robert Redford has taken a beautiful story and brought it home to the real cowboys and cowgirls of America. Cowboy up America! Romance doesn't always win...family values and morals are important!

Summary: The best of the season
Review: Robert Redford did a fantastic job, both acting and directing. It brings us back to a time when actors actually had to act. All of the emotions of the actors came across to the viewer withour sex or violence...a rarity in this day and age
