Rating: Summary: IT GETS TO MY HEART EVERYTIME Review: IT GETS TO MY HEART EVERYTIME CAUSE I HAD AN AUNT THAT WAS BATTLEING CANCER FOR FOUR YEARS AND WHEN I WANTED TO GET TO KNOW HER MORE SHE PASSED AWAY. SO IT REALLY TOUCHES ME WHEN I SEE IT,ESPECIALLY WHEN I HEAR THE SONG ONLY TIME. BUT I REALLY LOVED IT.
Rating: Summary: Sweet November Review: I love this movie. I'm a sucker for romantic men, and Keanu has that special sexy/sweet combination down pat. If I were to name the top ten 'hankie flics', this one would be #1, above Cary & Deborah, and Tom and Meg. Why? Because of the vulnerability that both Nelson and Sarah show, as well as, their chemistry on screen. Critics who cite the unbelievability of the premise should remember that this is a movie, not real life. I would recommend this to everyone, but especially gals whoneeds a dose of a man who 'treats a woman right'. Bonus is the great moments Nelson has with Abner. See it! Buy it! You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Keanu Reeves has always been my favorite. Review: Knowing Keanu from the stage where he got his start, it really doesn't matter what he does. He can just stand in front of a camera for two hours and i'll give him a outstanding review. But seriously, he's one of Hollywoods most gifted actors. Whatever he touches turns to gold even if the critics don't think so.This is a good film. A film with sole and heart. Not as good as the original but seeing Keanu is always a good thing. Just sit back, relax and enjoy this one. It's just plain nice.
Rating: Summary: good movie, bad acting Review: the idea of the movie was great, but keanu reeves completely ruined it ... true, the script was unrealistic in several parts, but reeves simply doesn't have the range of emotion needed for a love story.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful movie, but not for the unromantic. Review: If you are a romantic at heart you will probably love this very special movie. However, if you not a romantic, don't bother to see it -- you'll probably dismiss it as hopeless drivel as several reviwers have. This is probably a so-called "chic flick," but this guy fell in love with it. I saw it on cable TV and immediately bought the DVD. Keanu Reeves plays a hard-driven workaholic adman without a life outside of his work. Charlize Theron plays a beautiful free spirit who takes him into her life for one month (November) and slowly changes the way he sees the world -- including the very important differences between sex and love and between taking and giving. As I said at the beginning of this review, whether you will enjoy the truths and beauties of this film will depend on your view of life. If you haven't yet learned the lessons learned by Reeves' character in his special month with Theron's, this movie -- compelling as it is -- probably isn't long enough to change your view of life. But it's still a wonderful movie.
Rating: Summary: Superb chick flick!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I have to admit that I was initially attracted to this movie because of the Enya music--there is no more romantic music to listen to when you are in love or to make love to than Enya's music. James Cameron realized that and tried to get Enya to write songs for "Titanic"--but it turned out that she did not have time to do so. Regardless, this movie is a definite top rate, excellent chick-flick tear-jerker if there ever was one. Of course, what better city in which to set a romantic movie than San Francisco, which is where this movie occurs. Sara Deever, a quirky 90's style woman chases after Nelson Moss, a hard driven ad designer. After she sends him a cute little dog, he immediately returns the dog to her and, as she is cleaning up his left hand (that he had cut earlier in the day), he tells her about his day: "I got fired. They took the company car. And my GIRLFRIEND left me" "Perfect!", she says. "Define 'perfect'", he says angrily. Perfect in this case is the lead in to the rest of the movie, a series of romantic crises, wonderful love scenes, ultimately leading to a two boxes of Kleenex ending. This is my number 9 chick flick of all time (see my list of all time chick flicks). And if you end up liking this movie, you will love the soundtrack!!!
Rating: Summary: DEFINITELY WORTH WATCHING Review: I really liked this movie. The more you see it, the more it grows on you. I was surprised that it didn't make me cry the first time I saw it but it does whenever I watch it now because I already know ahead of time what is going to happen and I understand the choices that Sara makes. I especially liked the 12 days of Christmas. Nelson went from a totally emotionally unattached (the guy was through having sex with his girlfriend as soon as the alarm clock went off!), unfeeling workaholic to remembering the item "that started it all." I believe Sara pulled it off rehabilitating him back to Earth. Every time I watch this movie, I see something that comes together that I didn't catch before. Charlize Theron does a wonderful job as Sara. ... The movie gave me mixed emotions. I like the ending. Anyone who has ever had to watch a loved one die would understand Sara's decisions.
Rating: Summary: Heartwarming and humorous;y entertaining Review: Some people would call this movie far-fetched but, after living in California for awhile, I can say that there are people that would get together in the manner that Nelson and Sara do. Nelson is intrigued by her and they seem to get together because they are so different than each other. Charlize Theron plays the part perfectly - very believable. Keanu was somewhat emotionless and did not pull off the part that well. But the movie has important lessons regarding enjoying life's little pleasures. Definitely one to add to the DVD library. Also, the soundtrack is great.
Rating: Summary: Pretty much what you'd expect Review: I was marginally curious about this film when I saw the trailer, but definitely unwilling to pay to view it. Fortunately, it came on HBO while I was staying in a hotel, and I could watch for free. It was largely what I expected - fairly worthless. Keanu Reeves performed better than he historically has, but Charlize Theron was fairly flat. Though the premise was marginally interesting, the plot is completely predictable. One bright spot was Jason Isaacs as Chaz/Cherry, who delivers his usual caliber of excellence. It did jerk the obligatory tear from me at the end, but that's largely because I'm easy that way. Four yawns and two stars.
Rating: Summary: Okay remake of an okay movie Review: While watching Sweet November it occurred to me that I might be wrong in always blaming Hollywood for its seeming inability to make a decent romantic movie these days. Perhaps, I thought, society has changed so profoundly in the last thirty or forty years that the genre is no longer viable. Some people believe that movies influence society's behavior, but I am inclined to think that they merely reflect our collective points of view at any given time. And, frankly, my dears, I suspect society at large no longer gives a damn about romance. This Sweet November is a remake. The original came out in 1969, back when people still laughed at how material we could be. Now materialism is king. It's the new religious order and demands to be taken with utter seriousness. In such a climate, romance is forced to take a back seat, and I don't mean in a fun way. You'll see what I am talking about as you read on. Nelson is a driven ad agency exec whose current girl friend is about to pack her bags because Nelson is so obsessed with his work that he pays her no attention. He seems to have it all - the lavish loft apartment in a trendy section of San Francisco, a car that costs as much as some people's houses, designer suits, a fat paycheck, and, since he is played by Keanu Reeves, good looks. All of this success has gone to his head, and he's now a spoiled brat on his way to becoming a tyrant. One day he meets the gorgeous Sara [Charlize Theron], a woman with a definitively alternative lifestyle. When she announces that she's chosen him to be her man for the month of November, he blows her off. He rethinks her proposal the day he is deservedly fired. She promises that in the month they are together, she will make a new man of him, one who appreciates the really good aspects of life. When he asks why they'll be together only thirty days, she gives him some silly answer. In truth, Sara has good reason to limit her time in relationships, but she soon finds that Nelson is turning into a man she can't easily let go of, for in him she discovers that most elusive of emotions - love. Reeves and Theron make an attractive couple and exude a good bit of chemistry. Their initial meetings are fairly silly and unconvincing, but once they get serious about each other, they are interesting to watch. I don't normally think of Reeves as a romantic lead, but the casting is appropriate here because Nelson must turn from a jerk into a nice guy. Nice guys are right up Reeve's alley. I suspect the problem with Sweet November is connected to all that materialism we see today. I think it breeds a culture of permanent adolescence. A witty and urbane lead character is rarely seen now. In updating the story, Sweet November's writers created a modern man in Nelson, and that man comes off as childish, petty, vain and egotistical. It's someone we see more and more of in movies. It's hard to root for a someone like that, especially in the first half of the film. It also makes it harder to relate to the woman. You keep wondering why she would fall for a guy like that. If that's all that's available, then romance is truly doomed.
