Rating: Summary: Save The Last Dance - DVD Review: Teenager & I both liked this. Good movie.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite movies ever! =) Review: Wow. That's pretty much the first thing I think of when it comes to this movie. It's awesome! This is one movie that really grasps the realities and pressures of life. The school setting isn't overdone at all--the person who wrote the script really had a firm handle on what the school and teenage experience is. Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas are remarkable in their roles as Sara and Derek, two high school students who come from different racial backgrounds, but share the same love. Sara is forced to move to a nearly all-black neighborhood, where she must stay with her father because her mother has died in a car accident. (The parents are divorced.) Sara was a ballet dancer, but her mother's sudden death led her to toss her dreams on a shelf and attempt to ignore them. Surprisingly, Sara almost instantly finds a niche in her new predominantly black high school. She meets a sweet girl named Chenille (well portrayed by Kerry Washington) who clearly has her fair share of problems, but is a continuously good friend to Sara. Chenille's brother Derek also plays a big role in Sara's life. The two of them don't get along at first, but it isn't long before they find a common attraction to one another and slip into a relationship. It is Derek who helps Sara come to terms with why she gave up ballet, and it is Derek who supports her and encourages her to start dancing again. With Derek's tireless love to hold her up, Sara experiences emotional healing. Derek and Sara are obviously willing to face the challenges of their black man/white girl relationship with strength and courage, but opposite opinions of friends and family threaten to pull them apart. Now it's up to Sara and Derek to search their souls, examine their love for each other, and work to keep this relationship in existence. Throughout the film, both Sara and Derek face challenges other than the ones that come from their relationship; these challenges could affect their own lives, as well as the lives of their friends. This is just a really touching movie that really got to me. Although it seems a little unrealistic that Sara fit in her new school so quickly, there is nothing about this movie that is trash. It really addresses the issues that arise when two people from different races want to be together. This is a problem that we see in everyday life, and it was very powerful to see it come alive in a movie like this. "Save the Last Dance" has all the right stuff. It's funny, touching, and an altogether powerful illustration of the youth of today.
Rating: Summary: Slammin' Review: Julia Stiles plays as Sara, she loses her mother and she ends up living in the "ghetto" with her father. She ends up falling in love with a black guy named Derek, played by Sean Patrick Thomas. The two face the difficulties of their relationship coming from their family and friends. Drama, beats, and dance...all of it, slammin'.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Teen Flick, a Decent Movie Review: Save the Last Dance greatly transcends other run-of-the-mill teen movies that are so prevalent today. Unlike the others, Save the Last Dance has EXCELLENT acting as well as a very well-developed plot. So many teen movies are nothing but sappy romances. Save the Last Dance is a romance too, but far from sappy. Numerous subplots abound: moving to a new city, sadness, friendship, racism, dancing, and most important of all: achieving dreams. Julia Stiles plays her part beautifully, and every aspect of the plot falls wonderfully into place. Save the Last Dance is not a classic film by any means, but so much better than its complacent counterparts.
Rating: Summary: Awesome movie! Review: I loved this. I felt it was a very emotional movie. You could actually "feel" the passion the actors portrayed for their love of dance. The music, the choreography and the talent brought it all together. This is one movie I can watch over and over.
Rating: Summary: Antonio Review: I chose 5 stars ,because the movie is real. I already got it on dvd ,and i love watching it.
Rating: Summary: Save it for later Review: When I watched Save the Last Dance, I could have sworn it was a chick flick. Yet it had some pretty heavy profanity, ideas of sex, and a touch of violence to be anywhere near such a film. But it is a genuine love story, though the romance is between two different races, and that's bound to cause some ethical turmoil. -- I will say, though, that this movie was done very well. I could tell a lot of effort was put into making this believable- and it was. It's a good representation of life to the lower half of society. However, being the realistic portrait of life that it was, it sure had one dinky ending. It's the kind of ending you would only expect in one of those "chick flick" movies. Ah, there we go again... In the end, Save the Last Dance is very well executed, but the [questionable love] story is too romantic to fit its down and dirty (and very offensive) setting.
Rating: Summary: Spectacular Review: This movie is great. It shows what it's like for someone trying to get back into the regular move of things and it shows how nice it is to be able to have friends and to fit in.It's kind of like my situation with being the only white boy in my school. The music, scripts, actors, and just everything make it the best movie of the year! A must-see.
Rating: Summary: It was great Review: I loved Save the Last Dance. When I was reading the reviews of this movie, one in particular, made me sick. The one by Vic Blacksmith was terrible. What is wrong with a white girl dating a black guy? You, sir, are a racist. Julia Stiles is a talented actress, not "whale dung" as you so wonderfully put it. Sean Patrick Thomas is very cute, and a great actor, and I would date him any day, even if, as you put it, a black guy. It doesn't matter. After September 11th, you should be ashamed of attacking people just because of their color, or race. That is why we are in the mess we are now, because we aren't tolerated by some people. I hope you feel good about yourself.
Rating: Summary: Good acting+OK Script+Great Dancing+Julia Stiles = Hel yeah! Review: This movie is seriously excellent. Though at times it seems a little too overwritten and overacted, it is seriously good. Buy it, rent it, see it, whatever. (And for those who say Julia can't act in serious roles, see WICKED or O. In both she gives top performances).
