Summary: Wonderful! You must see this movie... over and over!
Review: Meryl Streep's performance as Karen Blixen is absolutely fabulous, and Redford looks as good as ever! Even though he doesn't sound English, it's still a wonderful film and gets better everytime you watch it. Meryl Streep is my favorite actress of today, and this is my favorite performance. Watch it over and over!

Summary: Interesting plot, Georgeous Scenery, Fantastic Music
Review: I like the story. The performances are wonderful. But the music, it's worth the price of the film twice over. Absolutely magnificent.

We've watched it many times on Beta and are now ordering it in VHS format.

Summary: A cinematic meditation
Review: Either you love this movie or you hate it. I love it. Sydney Pollack has certainly made some of the great movies of our time (Tootsie, Electric Horseman, Three Days of the Condor).

My wife and I have watched it literally dozens of times and every time I see something new in it. You may wonder how can you view it so often? This movie is like great music, it gets better the more you listen to it. And listening is what makes it great--to the dialog and to the score.

The beauty of movie is a delight to see and the story develops the depth of the characters and their special relationship with each other, something Pollack is just wonderful at doing.

Even if you think the movie is long, watch it a couple of times and then see what you think.

Summary: Breathtaking in every way!
Review: See this movie for the wonderful story, the gorgeous scenery, and a simply incredible performance by Meryl Streep. She becomes Isak Dinesen.

Summary: Exquisite Tho' Long
Review: Out of Africa is truly an exquisite piece of filmaking in almost every sense, and the story is all the more affecting because it is true. The stars are the cinematography and Meryl Streep, who gives us one of her seemingly countless cinematic reasons to believe in the power of Performance. Robert Redford is dull for the part of Denys, lacking in charisma and chemistry with his subtly outstanding co-star. Forget about him and purchase this film, if you are a romantic of any kind. A treasure to be enjoyed and pondered for many, many years. AND READ ISAK DINESEN's BOOKS!

Summary: T-o-o-o-o Long!
Review: If it weren't for the beautiful scenery, I would have stopped watching. The plot was not strong enough to support the length of the movie. Too much detail and not enough storyline. At the conclusion, I was left with the question, "What was that about?". Overall, I didn't particularly enjoy this movie.

Summary: The best epic romance ever filmed!
Review: Meryl Streep brings in a superb performance--the fact that she got second billing after Redford is a tragedy! This has been my favorite movie for over 10 years. The acting is wonderful, the scenery is beautiful, and the overall product is absolute perfection!! Plus, it's a true story! Tell that to all your "Titanic"-loving friends! And as for the last reviewer, the fact that you didn't understand the scene in the men's club explains the rest of your review.

Summary: Movies just don't get any better.
Review: In my opinion, this is the greatest movie ever made, and by a large margin at that. On first viewing, one might come away with the impression that this is primarily a romantic tear-jerker, but more attentive viewing will reveal that an astonishing number of topics are encompassed by this masterpiece, all with an intelligence and elegance that one almost never sees on a motion picture screen. I can think of nothing more to ask from a movie than "Out of Africa" provides.

Summary: My favorite movie of all time, I watch it annually.
Review: Besides being one of the most beautiful movies, what I like most is the philosophy of the Redford character and the strength of Streep's. This is my ideal woman, strong, self-reliant and a partner in life, not one stringing along for the free ride. I never tire of watching this movie and make it a point to watch it at least once a year. I usually watch it late at night alone, so that I can fantasize about what my life would have been like had I taken another path. I guess it's my romantic and adventurous side which draws me back to this wonderful movie time and time again.
