Rating: Summary: outstanding performance of both stars! Review: I think this just may be my favorite movie of all time. With the wonderful electric connection of these two top stars, they pull off the most simple, yet complex set of characters -- come to life -- and leave me wanting more! I adore Clint Eastwood and have enjoyed his talent for years, but this movie is number one in my book. Real. Romantic. Very well written and excellent performances. This story will leave you thinking of "what would I have done" at the moment when Francesca sees Robert pull in her driveway to when she places her hand on the knob of the truck door. Nothing has every been so moving emotionally as seeing Robert standing in the rain with that look of understanding and acceptance of her decision to stay on the farm. My last thought -- If Clint Eastwood was standing in the rain looking at me that way, I would have opened that door and ran into his arms! Clint, are you reading this???
Rating: Summary: Drown under the Bridges of Madison County Review: Here we find Clint Eastwood playing Robert Kincaid, a National Geographic photographer who is taking pictures of covered bridges in Iowa. He meets Franchesca, a housewife who is bored out of her mind while her family is away at the county fair. The two have a 4-day affair that is supposed have you pull out your hankerchiefs and sob your eyes out. I was trying to keep my eyes open! I never was a fan of love stories, and this movie also tries to send a message that true love only happens once in a lifetime, and it doesn't involve marriage. I don't like the fact that this movie portrays an affair as being more sacred then marriage. I can understand that Franchesca was bored and needed a change, but don't you think she went a little too far? The movie drags, REALLY drags! The opening sequence with her children going through her personal files is so slow that you keep forgetting why you are watching this movie. Most of the scenes are long and very tiring. The rest of the movie yields much of the same, and only the change between scenes keeps you from dosing off. I have been to Iowa, and I agree that the scenery is nice and peaceful, but maybe too peaceful. Clint Eastwood does fill in a good role as Kincaid, and I can understand if he was trying to open up to a new audience, that being women. This movie does show us the Romeo side of Dirty Harry I guess. There is nothing wrong with trying something new, but I hope Eastwood never does anything like this again.
Rating: Summary: What a sad film for middle agers to watch! Review: I loved this film. It was very sad and tragic, much like most people's lives are when they hit their 40's and 50's. It has exceptional acting from its main stars, Streep and Eastwood, however the opening scenes had horrible acting from the surviving children of the main character. That is the only reason it got 4 stars from me instead of 5. I really enjoyed the final 20 minutes or so. Without giving the plot away, it moved me in a way that cannot be described, only lived. If you want to watch one of the best romantic stories ever put on film....get this film!
Rating: Summary: This is a great movie Review: Yep, another guy here writing about this movie....what got me is that it feels very realistic. Meryl Streep's character is so amazing in the Bridges of Madison County. Seeing her come alive because of her passion for Eastwood is so gripping. This movie reminds me that real love comes around so few times in life, but when it does, you must pounce on it before it gets away!
Rating: Summary: Bridges... Pull out the tissues. Review: A spell-binding tale of love, star-crossed lovers. Fate, responsibility, and hard choices. I cry every time I watch this movie and hold out hope that somehow, they will end up together this time! If you have never watched this, you must do so immediately. Incredibly moving.
Rating: Summary: Only certain types of people "get" this movie Review: I too am a heterosexual man who loves this movie. I didn't see it for the first time until years after it left theaters. It never appealed to me before then. I thought "Oh my. A very old Clint Eastwood and tear jerking Meryl Streep are doing the film version of a very over publicized book." Ok, so it happend to be on cable one early morning and I came across it. I started watching the first 5 minutes and by the end I cried so many tears that I couldn't believe it... and I don't cry much at all. This movie is beautiful.. from the way it's shot, to the genuine and heartfelt performances of Clint and Streep. This movie blew me away. This movie is about love, hope, and sacrifice. Unbelievable. Ignore those who cast bad opinions of this flick. This movie is not for the lover of fast paced, action movies. They won't "get it." By the way, 'ol Dirty Harry's work with the musical score is sensational. Listen to "Doe Eyes" and tell me it doesn't fill you up!
Rating: Summary: JUMP OFF THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY Review: So romantically cloying, it bathes viewers in a love story that's about as subtly manipulative as tar and feathers. It starts off well enough with Eastwood arriving in a small Iowa farm town to photograph bridges for National Geographic and meeting immigrant housewife Streep with a thick Italian ( Italian? I would have guessed Czecklesovokian! ) accent. After a sexual encounter the two carry on a brief but passionate affair that's about as invigorating and sexy as Barbie kissing Ken. Through it all, Streep's husband is away at a county fair concerning something about a 'prize cow'. Talk about your Freudian nightmare! It took me several sittings to get through this tear-jerker which comes equipped with it's own box of soggy Kleenix.
Rating: Summary: Loved this movie Review: I'm not much of a movie person, or a romantic person for that matter, but someone I used to work with(a guy) told me to watch it. So I did, and I have never been so touched by a movie. I was crying and yelling at the tv screen at the end. I found it wonderful that a movie would bring out those emotions in me. It's a movie that a lot of women can relate to.
Rating: Summary: The grass is greener on the other side. Review: This is a story of a brief moment in time, a chance meeting, regrets, reawakened dreams, lust, false perceptions and the desire for passion. This story of a very short acquaintance and affair between a bored housewife and a free-spirited traveling photographer was actually handled very well on film. Clint Eastwood made a believable Kincaid, a loner who had an attraction for and developed a sympathetic companionship with a lonely woman during one of his projects. Meryl Streep, who plays an adulteress in most of her films, has not stretched herself much in that sense, but all that experience also means she has developed the role of infidelity quite well. People even begin to feel her anguish and believe she is justified in cuckolding her husband. Many have said it is a great romantic film (to be sure the beautiful musical score steers you in the direction), but I believe it is actually the antithesis of romance in disguise. It is a thought-provoking film, though. It brings home the careful consideration one should make before marrying, how complacency and/or lack of courage can cost people their deepest dreams and desires, and the misery of self-martyrdom. There are many "it is a shame that [he/she did/didn't]"s in this movie, which is poignant in itself. The saddest part of this movie is not her "sacrifice" for her family, but the fact that she hung on to a belief for the rest of her life that the passion shared with a stranger was real love. That kind of passion always lasts best in memories once the realities of everyday activity step into the picture. That she married before she had had enough love interests to understand the nature of momentary lust versus love that endures hardship makes her worthy of pity. I do not believe that after even a few months on the road together that Francesca and Kincaid would have lasted as a couple. Kincaid played with the thought of having a companion and Francesca toyed with the idea of an adventurous life. While they may have developed a friendship during four days, what they truly <i>loved</> all those years was not each other, but the possibilities that the other represented. I have not been compelled to watch it more than once, which is the reason for the average rating, but the acclaim that it has received has made it an important movie to watch. For the sake of your own peace, though, I'd recommend NOT watching it with your romantic partner... unless you are both involved in an extramarital affair, of course.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC AND TOUCHING!! Review: I CAN RELATE TO THE LIVE FOR THE MOMENT, THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE!! A PERFECT CAST.
