Rating: Summary: I did NOT want to watch this movie Review: After being told time and again that I should at least give this movie a chance, I finally caved. I now own this movie. It is beautiful, touching and (as another reviewer stated) probably best watched alone. I admit I cried. The performances of both Clint and Meryl are perfection. I can't imagine anyone else portraying these characters. Anyone who has ever wondered about the "what if" factor of love and chemistry will appreciate the story. With regard to some of the reviews I've read, I have to say that we tend to sometimes miss the point behind a story. Had the settings been "more diverse", I believe the intimacy of the story would have been compromised. The majority of the relationship between these touching characters did, after all, take place in a remote farmhouse. The Bridges and the County were merely the subtle backdrop. As for the film portraying adultery as being an act with "no consequence", I believe the film clearly shows that, regardless of the final decision, there is always consequence. This is shown both in the minor subplot of the local woman who is scorned by the townspeople and in the reading of the journal. In all, I found this movie very touching and definitely the perfect movie for viewing with a cold martini in front of a warm fire on a rainy night. Snuggle in and open yourself up to a great love story!
Rating: Summary: An unforgettable love story! Review: Is there a more beautiful love story than this one... NO. It's all in softness, and so romantic. What do you do when you are emotionnaly detached from a boring husband, and alone for a few days on an isolated farm in Iowa, when you can feel like a women in love again with someone like Clint Eastwood... seriously, all the ingredients are there for a very moving love story that touches our heart very deeply. I had the chance to "relive" that beautiful love story when I visited the different locations where the movie has been shot. I am not about to forget that wonderful day!
Rating: Summary: Eastwood and Streep Together Review: This is a movie - as I understand the situation - that Clint Eastwood had reservations about doing. The book on which the movie was based it not a great book. And Meryl Streep definitely did not want to do this movie with Eastwood based on the book that she thought was poorly written - all according to Eastwood's biography. But like some movies when it finally came together it was a very good movie. Eastwood leaves the tough guy role and instead is an older romantic figure. He meets a farmer's wife in Iowa whose family is out of town and they have a brief romance. The photography and directing (by Eastwood) is excellent as is portrayal of the wife played by Streep. Just an excellent and suprisingly good movie. Jack in Toronto
Rating: Summary: Bridges of Madison County Review: This was definetly a watch alone type movie. I felt as if I was inside the picture. This was wonderful from begining to end. This will always remain one of the #1 best movies that I have ever watched. I have ordered the music from this movie and cry everytime I listen to it. I love it!
Rating: Summary: an unforgettable love story Review: The story of <<Bridge of Madison County>> had reached the highest level of a script rendering possibly go on the screen;perfectly matched the beauty of oringinal writting and much go beyond what words can actually impressed. How graceful the performing is!Almost reached the apex of perfection. The scene most made me tore down is that Francesca received a package from Robert which contained all the stuff they happily enjoyed in four unforgettable days of love, certainly contained good memories they both thought everyday for rest of their life. When an old lady opened the box, hardly connected with a housewife whose outlandish charm attracted a photographer ,even more beautiful than the country view of the bridge, she suddenly back to those days in the love only once a life. She viewed that photo collection emotionally collapsed ,isn't it too brutal to be true? she had no idea robert died or not.but this lover lived in her heart forever. After her children discovered the secrect deeply hidden in Mom's heart, what they supposely for Mom's decision. It scarificed her love,in the same way, also accomplished a parent's responsibilities. How great this mom was.You must to realized a womwan's heart is as deep as the ocean. She could keep a romantic moment existed inside mind for lifelong, certainly, the men did not.
Rating: Summary: Most Moving Love Story of all times. Review: This is the best movie I have ever seen. It was happy then sad and I cried my eyes out the whole way threw it. It is every wifes fantisy played out before you. Clint and Merrill are wonderful together. You never new what was going to happen. I was on the edge of my seat. Thank you!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Stop Review: I couldnt stop watching.. I read the book first and found it so fasinating I couldnt put it down. The movie is just as good, it makes you feel like you were there.... I love this story...
Rating: Summary: Woohoo! Adultery Review: I love romance in movies, but not when they recklessly encourage adulterous relationships. The plot is well written, but the movie seems to say that adultery is ok; there's no consequence for the actions of Eastwood and Streep. Plus, Eastwood is the absolute worst romantic lead I have ever seen. My opinion is obviously subjective, you decide for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Excellent movie of true love Review: It has been years since I have seen this movie and came across it on cable tonight and had to order the book and the DVD. I enjoyed the movie years ago and totally understood the idea of true love and soulmates. I can totally relate to the movie and can see how when you meet the "one" person, there is no denying love and time is not a timetable. This was indeed a movie that expresses the love of two people and the strength it takes to walk away from it to do the right thing.
Rating: Summary: the look of love Review: Wow, this movie showed me the story of true love. Francesca, even though married with kids, really didn't have a fulfilling life. She had no excitement or love or anything. She was just a disappointed housewife it seemed to me. Someone lacking the love. Well, she found it in Robert Kincaid, she found something special that made her life better and even changed the way she felt about her home. Because, the love between her and Robert made everything special. This story may seem a little far off to some, and it is understandable. But, not to me, this is just one of those rare stories that can show what life can produce in the name of love. When Francesca and Robert were on the bridge and she played that joke on him with the flowers, I could only laugh. I mean, they had chemistry and I just knew that they were meant for eachother because Robert brought out the best in Francesca. When two people can bring out the best in one another that shows something. And it proved to me that Robert and Francesca were meant to be together. look what happened to them in four days! Can you imgaine what their life would have been like forever?! Sure, they would have had problems, but, who doesn't? Anyway, somebody wrote a review that this movie was glorifying an affair over marriage. This isn't the point of the movie, If francesca was in love with her husband, she would have not had an affair with Robert, she loved Robert, not her husabnd. That was just the way it was. I'm not promoting affairs on spouses of course, but, this wasn't just an "affair." This was the look of love.
