Summary: Depressing and draining
Review: I didn't think this movie was nearly as visually stunning as everyone seemed to rave about. It was very depressing and energy draining. The acting, in particular, was sullen and depressing with sporadic manic episodes, displayed mostly by Robin Williams. Robin Williams should stick to what he does very well--comedy. He's pitiful at drama.

Summary: One of the best movies of this decade!
Review: This movies is, perhaps, Robin Williams' greatest performance to date. Annabella Sciorra also turns in a classic, Natalie Woods-like, performance. Though I seldom watch movies more than once, this movie, like the Wizard of Oz, should be seen more than once over time.

Summary: Wonderful, must-see movie, but has a few flaws
Review: I have never seen a movie as visually magnificent as "What Dreams May Come." It is a groundbreaking film which hints at what can be done with special effects besides having spaceships shoot at each other, or having certain objects on the screen appear black and white and others color. The visual effects meld and flow and soar, giving an exquisite backdrop to this allegory of life and death and afterlife.

The movie does a good job of representing many religious points of view, without espousing any one in particular. One disappointment, however, was that it did not come up with any new ideas, but stayed very safely within the confines of accepted New Age spirituality. The focus was much more on the emotional and visual aspects of the film than on spiritual issues.

The story would have had more impact, also, if the relationships between the parents and children had been more fully established before the deaths occurred. Doling the story out piecemeal, in flashbacks, interrupts the flow of the movie and blunts the emotional impact.

Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding, Jr., were both excellent. There are only a handful of actors who could work in this kind of medium and hold their own, without either getting lost in the special effects, or dominating the movie to the point where the effects were secondary. Both Williams and Gooding walk that very fine line and, as a result, allow the moviegoer to suspend disbelief for a few hours and enter this magical, tragic, beautiful world with them.

Summary: Greatest
Review: I saw the movie in the theaters and I was in awe. I just bought it previously viewed at my video store and it is once again amazing. I myself am an atheist (one who doesn't believe in God and all that applies with Him) and this movie is one of my favorites. Everybody raves about Williams' performance, but Annabella Sciorra was ten times better in a role that was ten times harder to play. Williams' was good, but don't forget about Sciorra please.

Summary: Visually and spiritually spectacular
Review: I agree with everyone that stated this movie was depressing. It affected me that way too. However the subject of dying is something we all have to face, and wouldn't it be wonderful to have the chances these people had? As far as Mr. Williams acting, I was in awe. He seems so genuine and heartfelt, I'd like to think he's like this in real life.

Summary: A picture perfect romance
Review: Wow, I am all for true love stories and this one tops the cake. I think that Williams and Sciorra made a wonderful match and team. The love was truely apparent for them. It was the true, heart-felt, once in a lifetime love that many of us never feel. There is not the sexual passion that so many movies feel they have to have to portray today, but it was real love, I like that! The connection is heart felt and for all of you out there it will draw you closer to your partner!

As for the story line, strange and interesting. Really made you think about the after life. It was interesting to see someone's view and it was wonderfully presented. The special effects are AWESOME!

See this movie if you are open minded and in love. Without love it will seem depressing but with love you can realize that all things are possible!

Summary: Its like a 2 hour Trip
Review: This movie, though depressing its one that makes you think about life and opens your mind to things you werent thinking about before it started. The special effects are so amazing its like real actors in a cartoon type world.. very differnt than any movie I have ever seen. I say, watch this movie if you want to think intensely about life

Summary: Boring and typical Robin Williams facial expressions
Review: I got the DVD version because I wanted to see this beautiful movie in better resolution and sound which they are really good. But I agree with the other viewers who said this movie is depressing and boring. I just have to add to those comment about Robin Williams acting. He is a good actor but when it comes to dramatic roles, he only has same few choices of facial expression in every movie. It was good the first time but it got really annoying. Good jobs for the special effects though.

Summary: a matter of life and death
Review: I have had the book What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson since it was first published, and read it many times over the years. It has helped more than one friend come to terms with death, as a change of life, rather than an end, and the necessity of concentrating one's life on the things that are truly important. The movie is simply astounding. It adheres to the book in all the most important aspects, and does so with the most beautiful cinematography and special effects I have ever seen. This is not a special-effects movie; it is a film about life and death and love, and all of the wonderful scenery is only enhancement. On the DVD, there is an alternate ending, which is more in tune with the original ending in the book, and which, to me, is better. The ending which the producers decided was more acceptable I found too saccharine and not in tune with the rest of the story. Matheson wrote a perfect story, and to try and change his ending to a happy-happy one was, in my mind, an error which disrupted the whole climate of the film. See the DVD, and judge for yourselves.
