Summary: Many Good Stories Rolled into One
Review: Forrest Gump is the story of a less than intelligent man who somehow manages to find himself in some rather historically important places and events. The story is told by the main character, Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), to some strangers at a bus stop.

Forrest's story take us from his childhood days in Alabama to his college years in UA to his army days in Vietnam and then to his days running the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Along the way we see Forrest meet some very famous people including "Bear" Bryant, John Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson.

There is also a love story running through the movie as we see the woman that Forrest loves, Jenny Curran (Robin Wright), come in and out of his life at several different times. Forrest's love for Jenny goes mostly unrequited. He believes that Jenny doesn't love him because he's not a smart man.

While Forrest Gump has been put forward as a bit of a moralist tale, that really doesn't come through in the movie. The only thing you can take from this movie is that we should be thankful for what we have and make sure we cherish the people in our lives. That's not exactly high philosophy; but, it will do.

More importantly than its message, Forrest Gump is a good story. It is the type of movie that you'll find yourself immersed in while not realizing the time passing by.

To top it off, Forrest Gump has some great acting with Hanks and Wright along with Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan, Forrest's injured platoon leader from Vietnam. There also is the added bonus of one of the better soundtracks around. There are many good songs laced throughout the movie that really give you a feel for the time period that Forrest Gump takes place in.

Forrest Gump is a movie that's worth the time invested in watching it.

Summary: Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you
Review: This movie is quite unlike any you have ever seen. It is a magical mystery tour through the formative times of the baby boom generation, with a simple and guileless man as our guide. Forrest Gump is like the literary character created by Richard Powell, whose "strength is as the strength of ten because his heart is pure". The world around him spins like a top, slowly wobbling until it falls, and through it all Forrest's simple character acts like a rudder in the water. He steers us through exciting and troubled times, from the rise of Elvis to the fall of Vietnam, the cynicism of Watergate and the nasty hangovers from free love that wasn't so free and one too many trips on the Marrakesh Express. The movie deftly captures this space in time with the perfect blend of music (that just slaps you in the head with its freshness and lack of premeditation) and images that are culled from the back pages of your mind. It skips like a stone across the hopes and dreams of a once idealistic generation that were launched like a rocket into space, only to suffer a fiery reentry as it all came crashing back to earth. What a ride. We lost our innocence, but Forrest did not lose his. We lost our heroes, but Forrest shows us true heroism with his own simple example. We lost our way, but we can find it again. This movie is not to be missed.

Summary: Life is like a box of chocolates...
Review: And this movie is not a very good one...

One of my teachers in high school told the class that a plausible story isn't necessary a true one, but can also be something that technically MIGHT happen in real life. Forrest just had TOO many strokes of good luck and situations where he was at the right place at the right time to make it a good story in that respect. This might not be anyone else's definition of a good story, but it is certainly mine...

Also, all the characters in this movie, especially Jenny's and Lt. Dan's, are just a huge cliche of amateur psychology and kitch... Nothing original or unexpected about them - two dimentional in other words.

Many people here speak of the movie's great message of the triumph of human nature. But everything Forrest did was not because he knew it was the right thing to do at the moment, but just because he was there and he reacted to the situation in the only way he knew how to. I've read a review that brought his shrimping sucess as an example: the only reason Forrest became successful was because everyone else's ship sank, not because he did something extraordinarily well... Forrest did not think about the great task of representing his country while playing ping pong in China - he just did what he knew how to do, play ping pong.... And there are numerous other examples.

But the worst part of this movie experience was Tom Hanks. I think that he has great potential as an actor - see Philadelphia, for instance. But since then, he seems to be acting out the same character over and over again: the basically good guy who'll eventually win - I couldn't tell the difference between any 2 parts if they weren't in different customs and situations. The fact that Hanks is potentially a great actor just makes his type casting even worse to watch...

Summary: JUST AS GREAT AS "A BOX OF CHOCOLATES"!
Review: IT'S ABOUT TIME THEY PUT THIS OUT ON DVD! I LOVED FORREST GUMP FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. I CAN NOT BELIEVE HOW CONTRAVERSIAL THIS MOVIE WAS WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILIES. WHILE SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT THE MOVIE IS "UNFAIR" TO RETARTED CHILDREN AND PORTRAYS THEM AS SOMETHING TO LAUGH AT, I BEG TO DIFFER 100%! YES, THIS IS PART COMEDY, BUT ALSO HAS SADNESS, HAPPINESS, AND MANY OTHER EMOTIONS THAT CAPTURE YOUR HEART IF YOU ARE OPEN MINDED. I FEEL THAT IT PORTRAYS HOW MEAN CHILDREN CAN BE TODAY IN THE PRESENT TO THE LESS FORTUNATE PEOPLE. THE SAYING IN THE MOVIE "RUN FORREST RUN" IS NOT TO MAKE FUN OF THE CHARACTER. HE WAS FIRST TOLD TO RUN BECAUSE HE WAS PICKED ON BY CHILDHOOD BULLIES. IN OUR PRESENT SOCIETY, THERE IS SO MUCH BULLYING GOING ON THAT I FEEL IT IS A GREAT SUBJECT WHERE PARENTS CAN LEARN TO TEACH THEIR CHILDREN RIGHT FROM WRONG AND NOT TO PICK ON THE LESS FORTUNATE CHILDREN. THE MOVIE GOES FROM SHOWING THE LITTLE BOY WHO HAD HANDICAPPED LEGS TO BECOMMING A BRAVE SOLDIER IN THE VIETNAM WAR TO BECOMMING A GREAT FATHER! FORREST PLAYED BY MR. TOM HANKS IS A TRUE HERO. THIS MOVIE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE CRITICIZED. PEOPLE MUST LOOK AT THIS MOVIE WITH AN OPEN MIND. MANY FAMILIES WITH DISABLED PEOPLE IN THEIR FAMILIES DID NOT LIKE THIS MOVIE. THEY JUST NEED TO OPEN THEIR MINDS UP! THIS MOVIE SHOWS THE WORLD THAT EVERYONE'S NOT PERFECT, BUT EVERYONE HAS A SPECIAL QUALITY IN THEM NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE AND NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF PHYSICAL CHALLENGE THEY HAVE! FORREST IS THE BEST MOVIE TO TEACH, TO CRY, TO LAUGH, IN A LONG TIME. PERFECT FOR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN. And "THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT"!

Summary: With this DVD you know what your 'gonna get'
Review: As the feather falls, its time to find a hanky and a big box of chocaltes and prepare to take a trip though history with a very special man with magic shoes.

Where do you begin reviewing the most detailed account of life ever to grace the silver screen? Quite simply we begin with Hanks. From start to finish hanks is gump, every move every emotion ever distant look hanks is gump. He makes you laugh and cry and he does it all without breaking a sweat, some my call him a 'natural' I think I will label him officially a God.

The music in this film deserves a paragraph all on its own, its perfect, the soundtrack combines classic tunes with original orchestral masterpieces that, have you weeping before the film begins (once you've seen the film once). The music in many ways is the continual strand of the film, the backbone on wish Gump and jenny flesh out with various shrimp meals!!

Every character was focused and played a part in the complete story, they were realistic and believable but also representative of every guy who never forgot his sweetheart. Gump being somewhat simple aloud the character to show emotions rather than thoughts. Making him honest and loveable creates a vital empathy, the audience connects directly with the thoughts of this childlike man, worrying about him and wishing him the best from start to finish.

I will buy this DVD the day it is released and I will take time to study every special feature because this is a movie which, though its quality, deserves attention. Hanks entered a new time in his career after his wonderful performance in this movie, a turning point for such an influential member of Hollywood is surely a turning point for Hollywood?

Summary: It's Like A Box of Chocolates
Review: As chocolate, this movie is woulderful. It's about a southerner Forrest Gump(Hanks) and most of his life. Most of the movie is him setting on a bench and telling his life story. About 10 or 20 min. before the end it is going on then and he is not telling a story. This movie really should not be rated PG-13, the only thing is then lauguage and some war violence. This movie is touching, funny, exciting, and sad. You should watch this movie as soon as posoble if you have not already seen it. You will love it. I hope this review helped. Bye.

Summary: THIS beat Pulp Fiction?!
Review: Forrest Gump is not an unwatchable movie, but it's damn close.... Some think this movie is "magical", but watching a man who's brain cell must have died from loneliness go on and on about how "stupid is as stupid does" for nearly three hours is not what I call magical. We are supposed to swallow the fact that a man this dumb can effect some of the major events in the last quarter century. I watched this movie with an open mind and was patient untill Tom Hanks delivered the DUMBEST line in movie history. After Bubba introduces himself, Forrest says "My name is Forrest Gump, people call me Forrest Gump". How adorable, if it comes from from a 5 year old. Or how about when our pal Forrest says to the President " I've gotta pee". How cute!!! I forget which President he said that to because Forrest met more than one. If you want a truly great movie with a person who's actually handicaped and not just dumb, try Rainman. When Forrest Gump said that famous line, he must have been thinking about the Academy "Stupid is as Stupid does"....
