Summary: S E X Y MIND GAME!
Review: This is the best movie EVER for both Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger!

Ok if you want to look at it as a hot sexually sadistic movie, that's one way to look at it. But how about combining this with a mind game movie?

Haven't you seen how an independent successful woman (Elizabeth) Kim Basinger lose it all? Haven't you seen how (John)Mickey Rourke take control? Oh this is a game of power. Two wandering hearts fill in love, two erotic souls heat up the air and two minds playing a game!

But who is to win?!! Two wounded hearts, two shattered souls and one DOMINANT MIND!

It makes you shiver as (...) counts you'll be back before I count to ...!

Oh and the sound track of the movie is PERFECT!

Summary: There was sex in this film?
Review: Ok, I know that's a silly question. If you didn't catch the tongue-in-cheek, here it is, spelled out for you. Sure, it's erotic. Sure, it's exciting. What most people miss is the intense imagery. As an artist, some of my tastes are a little too eclectic for some folks, but this has been one of my favorite movies for years and years. Few people catch the "fish" metaphors. In the beginning, she's buying sushi in Chinatown. When she starts to doubt the relationship, she visits Farnworth, surveying his dead fish, telling her "It's the moment the thing is so familiar..." and toward the end she gets ill at the party...on the fish. There are so many more subtle, masterful, intense images. You just gotta look past the sex.

Summary: Excellent Filmmaking Bad DVD Transfer
Review: This is a love it or hate story. If you can put that aside you will notice that the imagery and quality of the filmmaking is excellent. It evokes emotion just by the sights. You can almost smell the incense, you can feel the dank air in the City, it is simply a very well made film. That said, the transfer to DVD looks like the film has been left to rot in a vault. This may be the best transfer possible but I certainly hope not. I have 8 mm vacation films that are 3 times as old and in better shape then the transfer to DVD makes this film looks. So while it is an excellent filmed experience, the DVD give you a digital copy of a very flawed film.

Summary: If you are in the mood...
Review: When I first saw this movie I was torn between the opinion that it was either very good or really not. Much like Last Tando in Paris, a film of similar pretense, 9 1/2 Weeks will either hit or miss with it's audience on an individual basis. One way or another this is a powerfully erotic movie and when it is over it will leave you thinking.

Elizabeth(Kim Basinger) works in an art studio and apparently has not had much luck with men since her marriage broke up. One day while in a store with her friend she runs into John(Mickey Rourke). There connection is instant, although neither of them acts on the initial impulse. Later in a open market John sees Elizabeth and proceeds to sweep her off her feet. There relationship gains momentum quickly. John takes control of Elizabeth, particularly, in the physical part of the affair. He makes her do things she has never done before, and despite being timid at times, she seems powerless to his demands. As John and Elizabeth get more involved they eventually fall in love.

The film ends rather unexpectedly. Despite some weak subplots this remains a strong film. What makes it so strong is the electric chemistry between Rourke and Basinger. They make the film quite watchable. The direction by Adrian Lyne is exactly what it should be. It's dark mood sets the stage perfectly for these two accomplished actors.

I do not believe this film is for everyone, but it is a good movie. I would recommend viewing it if you are in the mood for a character study or a break from the mainstream. Some people will decide, as I have, that this movie was worth watching, but others will feel they just wasted their time.

Summary: A story of an Obsessive, Lustful Romance that Lasts for¿
Review: 9 and a ½ Weeks Cleverly does away with the usual Subplots that come with the Territory. The Film is Virtually Devoid of Action and Suspense (I say "Virtually" because this statement can be debateable depending on opinion), even Dialogue seems to be a Hindrance to the story, so there's not a lot of it. The Writer and the Director obviously wanted to focus Solely on the Romance at hand, and boy do they delve into it.

They stock the film with Beautiful Images, Intense Scenes and Debateable Content. What looked on the surface to be a Trashy Sex flick turns into a study of Obsession and Lust. The Attractive Leads really take in their roles and the Attraction is Believable at all times, Mickey Rourke was at his Prime and Kim Basinger was an Up-and-Comer.

No Supporting Character stands out as no one bar the Leads gets the screen time to be Memorable. The Direction is always Competent and the Cinematography is Superb. The fact that the film sparked such Controversy and Debate on release proves it's more than just Trash it IS Art.

Summary: Psychological Journey Through Sexual Fantasy Scenarios
Review: I have loved this film, since the first time I got my hands on a copy, ten years-ago! Unfortunately, it seems most of the great aspects of this movie have already been covered--"Tony from Down Under" did a fine job of reviewing & commenting about this film--however.... I would like to add that this film is not-only a very well-made, well-casted and classic treasure, but is also a Wonderfully Stimulating movie for Couples! You've probably seen the parody scenes inspired by this film and you may even know they are somehow connected with this movie, yet you may not realize how ... sensual this movie can be for a relationship. "9 1/2 Weeks" is a must-see for Couples, married or not, because of the many "Role-Playing" concepts explored and the many sensual explorations of normal, everyday surroundings. A scarf can become a blindfold, food becomes....experimental, Dining becomes Adventure, Life becomes a Game....and you play to live Life to the Fullest. If the basic concepts of the movie are adapted to a relationship (sans the Ego-Tripping), the relationship becomes stimulating, refreshing and always-evolving, instead-of stagnating or boring. Lovers who explore these techniques will be inspired to recreate their own romantic scenarios.... This is an inexpensive way to add decades of Adventure to your private relationships. Have a blindfold, candlelight and massage oil ready, guys--because, she'll want you to spoil her, after you watch this one together!

Summary: all time favorite movie
Review: I first watched this movie in high school & I think it changed my life. I would walk in downtown Seattle hoping to meet my very own Mickey Rourke. I became dreamy and romantic, expecting that this was what adult love was all about. So, here I am 10+ years later thankfully realizing that life is not really portrayed in movies! While this movie was packed full of juicy sex, I consider it to be very romantic too. John's painful heartbreak in the last scene gives us evidence of this. What woman did not fall hopelessly in love with Mickey Rourke after this movie? And if you aren't a fan of romance, the movie offers us a feast for the senses. Every scene is visually explosive & the soundtrack is incredible! To this very day, any time I hear "Slave to Love", "You Can Leave Your Hat On", or any other song from this movie, it conjures up the very scene it was played. I think I am going to watch the movie right now...

Summary: WOW
Review: For those of you that didn't appreciate this movie... you must not have one ounce of sexuality. I feel for you all and your mates, because if you hadn't experienced any of those scenes for yourself before you saw the movie I would think that you would have afterward. The movie is about being unable to control yourself when you are with this other person... giving freely of yourself... everything else in the world goes away when you with this person. Degrading to women, you have to be kidding right? This successful female finds someone that is so different, unlike her so called peers, that she is fascinated by him rather than being sickened by him. Gee wouldn't be nice to find a few men like that to take us away from all of this madness even if it is just for a few hours at a time. I believe that this movie explores a side of sex that more people should look at, it might just make you happier people. I really dislike it when people judge things that they are unwilling to try. Most of the reviews I read were of the content not of the movie, so here's another to add to the list.

As for the movie, it had some unbelievable camera work. The angles and lighting made the scenes even more powerful. The movie really pulled you into what was going on at the time.
