Summary: NO HAPPY ENDINGS, BUT REAL ENDINGS
Review: Julia Roberts returns to romantic comedy with this great and funny film. Roberts is great with comedy, and she definitely is getting better and more comfortable with age and time. I was not at all a Roberts fan in her early career and hated films like Pretty Woman or Sleeping with the Enemy. However, in this film Roberts shines. She plays a very independent and brash food critic who is stunned to find out that her best friend (played by Dermot Mulroney) is going to get married. Suddenly she realises that maybe she was in love with him all along and all the times he tried to turn their relationship into romance, she spurned him. And now, it might be too late. She agrees to come to the wedding and help prepare, but the whole time she is trying to win her friend back. He is marrying a young woman, Kimmy, played by Cameron Diaz. Roberts does everything in her power to undermine Kimmy and play on all the years of common experiences she has shared with Mulroney. Ultimately it does not work. In the end they do get married, but you will laugh and maybe cry along with all the antics and problems that crop up in the film. The real star here, apart from Roberts, is Rupert Everett as Roberts's other best friend, who is gay but whom she enlists to portray HER fiancé (trying to make Mulroney jealous. Yes, she will stoop to any level to win here).

Summary: Something puzzles me in this movie
Review: Lovely girls, handsome men, humorous, beautiful and romantic story. I do enjoy watching this movie. I like George's dialogue a lot (not because he is gay!). But I am curious about one thing and feel not so right about another.

Why Michael is so attractive to those two girls? This is an unexplained point in this movie. Of course we don't need to say everything in a movie, but just from my impression of THIS man in THIS movie, I don't feel that he has more charm than any other man on this planet. While I feel George really has some charisma: warm heart to friend, witty, active when necessary and mature, good looking. Bu Michael seems a very self-center guy. When his own career was touched, he was irritated, and wanted to break up with Kimmy. He has only himself in this movie, and the marriage is like his patronage to the girl loves him. I don't understand why he LOVES Kimmy in this movie, but I can see he loves Jule, pretty much.

Summary: Julia Roberts on the attack
Review: In this movie Julia Roberts shows just how evil she can really be. It starts out with a phone call from her Michael (played by Dermott Mulroney) saying he needs to talk to her right away. She suspects that he is going to purpose to her because back when they are dating they made a pack that if they both weren't married by a certain age then they would marry each other. She finds out that is not what he wants, he tells her that he has met someone else and is going to be married in 3 days. This upsets Julia and she tries to break the happy couple up by playing some pretty evil schemes. She tries any way possible to break their marriage up, and doesn't care who it hurts in the process. She says, "He was in love with me for nine years!" This quote to me says that she can't get over him. Even though when they were together she couldn't even think about a long term commitment, but now that he has found someone else she wants to stop it. After planning all of these evil schemes it starts to make Michael think of what he is doing and if it is the right thing for him. You have to watch the movie though to see if he marries Kimmy(played by Cameron Diaz) or Jewls (played by Julia Roberts.) It's an ending you will never forget. This movie I would have to say is one of Julia's best performances. She really shows just how evil she can be when it comes to love. I reccommend this movie to any one who likes a tear jerker, cause this one really cuts the cake.

Summary: Facial expressions..!
Review: How can someone fail to love Julia Roberts in this movie?!!

It is a light romantic commedy of a woman got driven by her buried emotions. She tries everything to get her lover back before he gets married... although Julia Roberts becomes evil but you can never hate her because you feel for her and you see how she trembles down!

She's face to face with her lover and his sweet bride whom she have no excuse to hate except that she's marrying her lover! An internal conflict, an emotional contradiction... and a love burning her down!

Oh Julia Roberts facial expressions are so touchy. In this movie you LAUGH, CRY and will enjoy it again and again!

Summary: Some scenes are charming, but Julia is not Kate HEPBURN...
Review: When I read the reviews of this movie, all the critics said that this movie worth the great STURGES's, CUKOR's or LUBITSCH's classics. It is certainly not. The plot is common, the dialogues often poor, and I didn't understand why Julia's character wants Mulroney's one so much (Mulroney is totally uninteresting). The only good scenes are when the excellent Rupert EVERETT appears (and I think the actor gave a lot of himself in his 3 scenes). I found Julia ROBERTS exaspirating in some scenes (she thinks that she only had to speak loud, fall several times from her chair or smoking a lot of cigarettes to be considered as the new Katharine Hepburn or the new Carole LOMBARD - the genial and zany stars of "Bringing up baby" and "My man Godfrey"). I know it is my OWN point of view, but I don't think Julia ROBERTS (and Meg RYAN and Sandra BULLOCK...) is a good screwball actress (in the Colbert/Lombard/Hepburn/Dunne way). When she tries to be like those stars of the Golden age of American comedies, she is totally artificial an "forces" her effects (big mouth...) -just see overrated romentic comedies like "Notting Hill", "The runaway bride", "The mexican", etc, and compare them to a Preston STURGES's classic- On the other hand, in a "serious" movie like "ERIN BROCKOVITCH", she is totally just and sensitive, and she deserves her reputation. To go back to "My best friend...", it is worth watching for the Rupert EVERETT's scenes. I feel the director P.J. HOGAN has a real sense of comedy, but he really depend on a good script (by Charlie BRACKETT and Billy WILDER, for example...). How did Hollywood lost its great comedy screenplay writers?

Summary: Great plot, but.... great characters? No way!
Review: This movie is about Julianne, who falls in love with her best friend just when he's getting married. She does everything she can to sabotage their engagement. The one thing I hated about this movie was Michael, the best friend. He was completely boring, with no good qualities whatsoever-- he's not understanding, caring, loyal, interesting, funny, or trustworthy. No one with any sense at all would fall in love with him. But the other characters in the movie were great actors who acted out their parts well, and I would recommend this movie to anybody.

Summary: When reality hits
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I related to Juliann most of the way. In fact, I guessed most of what she did, some she didn't. It was an eye opener. Sometimes we don't realize what we have in our backyard until it's too late. Very funny, fast paced, not to mention, some very good looking people. The "singing" table scene was a bit far fetched, however, very humourous indeed. Be careful with who you watch this with. When I watched it with an "ex"boyfriend, he was surprised I had such a devious mind. Sit back, relax and enjoy some great laughs. Oh, some might want to have a kleenex close by, just in case.
