Summary: Field of Dreams
Review: Field of Dreams
Review by: Danielle Brown

Summer Catch is a puppy-love romance with a little-league baseball scenario that together make it a cute movie. There have been numerous bad reviews of this movie, but I think it's a good movie to rent and cozy up on the couch to watch if you want to relax and watch a chick flick.

Ryan Dunne (Freddie Prince Jr.) is a guy trying to make it into the Major Leagues, but he has problems lving at home, relating to his new love, and figuring out what he wants in his life. As a member of the Chatteam A's baseball team in the Cape Cod summer league, he has to impress the scouts and prove to many that he has what it takes to succeed. Among those doubtful of Ryan's potential are his father (Fred Ward), who mows lawns, his brother (Jason Gedrich), who played baseball but didn't make into in the big leagues, and the father of Ryan's new-found love, Tenley Parrish (Jessica Biel). The film is good because it has a theme of love, a theme of relationships, and humor to keep the movie flowing.

The love between Ryan and Tenley is sweet and innocent. It's why people like to watch romance movies. I was feeling for them and their problems and wanting their relationship to work out. Some of the lines are totally predictable and may seem corny, but I think a romance needs a little of that because it keeps the relationship real. In real life those are the moments that create excitement. There are also many clichés used throughout the film, but I would say the predictability is balanced out by the humor.

I wouldn't recommend this movie for it's humor alone, but it is funny. At times the humor may seem a little rude or misplaced, but it's there and you laugh. The other members of the baseball team are a real kick including Billy Brubake (Matthew Lillard) the carefree goof-ball of the team, and Eric Van Leemer (Corey Pearson) the all-star hot shot. They are half of the plot, and each of them has their own conflicts to overcome. One is being seduced by his summer host mom, one is constantly ridiculed about his girlfriend, and one can't seem to hit the baseball at all.

Overall, how you relate to the story is what you take from it. It's a pretty easy movie to relate to for young people. Most viewers will identify with the typical love relationship. The typical love relationship is a major identifier. Even the inner-family conflicts can be familiar. In the Parrish household Tenley's father doesn't think Ryan is good enough for his daughter so he forbids him to see her. This over-powering father also wants to run Tenley's life and tries to convince her move to another city and get a job. Ryan's father on the other hand seems jealous of his son's success at first, then eventually illustrates pride and support.

Love is the underlying theme though-love for baseball and a connection between two young adults. Where there is love, there should be a way. I emphasize the "should" because not all things are meant to be. It's a matter of the time, effort and energy it takes to follow your dreams; Ryan has dreams.

Summary: Oh man
Review: If anyone asks me what the worst movie I have ever seen is, I have never failed to mention this one. I didn't expect a classic, but i at least expected to be entertained, or at least to see some good acting. I got neither. The plot was stupid and so regurgitated that it made me shudder. The characters were never properly developed. Freddie sees Jessica Biel and talks to her once, and all of a sudden she's in love with him and encouraging him to persue his dreams and she's willing to disobey her father to see him. Uhm, what? Her lines were just cheesy and retarded. I would never recommend this movie to be seen. I would recommend buying it only so that a mass burning of all available copies can be arranged

Summary: the awful truth
Review: I am not fond of writing bad reviews but they also must be addressed. This boring, boring, boring film attempts and fails at being anything more than the bottom of the barrel formulated teen comedy that aches in unoriginality (as shown simply by the title) and only reaches arm length for ridiculous obnoxious laughs. The cliche Hollywood teen comedy script (I've seen better story telling on bathroom walls) sinks to a new level of absurdity. I'm sorry but movies like this come straight from the pooper. Consistently awful performances all around, especially that of Mr. Prinze Jr. Well, I feel that if I have nothing nice to say I should say nothing at all, so I should stop here. I just wish Hollywood lived by the same set of standards.

Summary: not all that
Review: This movie is for baseball lovers. I only watch it since cutie freddie was in it. (...). The chemistry between jessica nad fred was dull. Hopefully Freddie will choose better roles in the future. THe only film he was good in and had a better connection with the nerd girl turn preety girl love interest was SHES all THat. Thats the only film that made him a star . THe other films made him starless.

Summary: not a home run
Review: This movie is the poor man's Bull Durham. It stars Freddie Prinze Jr as Ryan Dunne, who wants to become a professional baseball player. Then he meets Jessica Biel, a rich girl whose father is against her seeing Dunne. Matthew Lillard, Marc Blucas, Brittany Murphy and Brian Dennehy round out the cast.
Prinze NEEDS to take his career in a different direction. All his roles are the same guy-funny,cute, always gets the girl. It's maddening to me because he was in a movie called Money Kings playing a villian. He wasn't bad either. He needs to take more risks and playing a variety of roles.

Summary: not all bad
Review: Contrary to some of the reviewers, this movie is not all bad and is not for baseball lovers only. I don't care for sports at all, but didn't mind seeing baseball as a backdrop. It was nice to see Jessica in a more 'adult' role and Freddie Prinz, Jr. is not one of my favorite stars on a good day, but you can relate to his inner struggle of known vs. unknown life choices. The scene where his two long-time friends put him in his place is a real tear jerker and worth the time to watch the movie. Glimpses of Mark Blucas (Riley, BVS) and Christian Kane (Lindsey, "Angel") were also treats. I don't know that I personally would pay for a copy, but check it out on tv and decide for yourself. It's worth a peek! A nice stress reliever after a hard day.

Summary: Jessica has to leave Warners, they give her bad roles....
Review: If you follow Jessica Biel's attempts at getting better film roles, then you know that she was not hierd for her looks, she really can act. And their are moments in this movie where she seems to struggle with a weak script to make it work, and there are moments where she succeeds, before the weak script and bad casting take over. I think if she left Warners, and a second rate show like 7th Heaven, and got a better film role at a different studio. She could really carry a role and make it interesting. But first, she has to get away from Warner Brothers.

Summary: Doesn't even reach "teen movie" standards
Review: I fell asleep throughout a lot of the movie and when I woke up wanted to bang my head against the wall. [granted, i had been up all night the night before, but it counts]
This has to be one of the most INANE and BORING movies i have ever watched...besides the fact that there is a lot of innuendo that absolutely nothing to do with the 'plot' of the movie, which is hard enough to find anyway, I hate to break it to all the Freddie Fans out there, no matter how cute this guy is, HE CANNOT ACT.

every movie he's been in has been the same type of character and even if it wasn't, he acted the same.
unless you are ready for 108 minutes of unnecessary torture and boredom, i do NOT reccomend this movie.
