Summary: Nice movie but I expected much more
Review: I liked "Cutting Edge",I thought it was nice and romantic movie about 2 different people falling in love through scating together. BUT having heard about it before, I expected much more and was quite disappointed. Lots of scenes in my opinion were wasted by just showing the scates and not the figures of people (even if they were doubles). The end was a bit disappointing also, the producers could do so much more about it. I honestly expected to see more of a professional scating than it was shown. But those who are not wizards with scating in short-long programs, these people will find this movie refreshing. But don't expect too much of it if you want to enjoy some real scating there, it lacks it.

Summary: A guilty pleasure
Review: I hate to admit it, but I love this movie. It's perfect lazy viewing material--cute guy, bitchy girl, both attracted to each other combined with the bitchy, competitive, graceful world of competitive ice skating. The Olympic setting still resonates today, and the politically-fraught relationships between skaters rings true given all that we've seen go on in the real world. I love D.B. Sweeney in this flick (how can you not), and Moira Kelly is beautiful, flawed, and tough in an endearingly prickly way. This is a great rainy day flick.

Summary: LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
Review: D B Sweeney knocks Moira Kelly right off her feet the very first time he sees her and the rest just has to be watched as this is truely a love story in a win-win situation. I've watched it over and over and love it more each time.

Summary: A WONDERFUL, WITTY MOVIE
Review: I hadn't even heard of this movie until it was aired on TV a couple of weeks ago. I only watched the last 10 minutes then, but my, what an enthralling 10 minutes! I couldn't wait to find out what happened in the rest of the movie, so i went out and rented it. usually i despise sappy romantic comedies (i.e, Notting Hill, You've Got Mail, etc.) and watch action, horror and spy films instead, but THE CUTTING EDGE is one of the VERY few romantic movies that I enjoy. it's got that great love/hate chemistry between Doug and Kate, the main characters and exciting potrayal of professional figure skating...superbly acted and wonderfully directed. THE CUTTING EDGE is an old fashioned love story (no sex scenes, which is better) that you absolutely cannot miss.

Summary: A LITTLE EMBARRASED!
Review: I have to admit, I'm a guy who likes "guy" movies, "terminator" "die hard" "lethal weapon" and the like. I have never been one to watch comedies, much less romantic comedies. That all changed when I first saw "The Cutting Edge" on cable one night. I absolutely LOVE this movie and I just bought it along with the soundtrack cd, which ROCKS. This movie is so well written and edited and the main charachters are absoulutely perfect. the only thing that dissapoints me is that after this movie, neither D.B Sweeney or Moria Kelly have been in any good movies since this one came out. I would have thought after such an excellent performance in this movie, the offers would have been pouring in for both of them. I guess hollywood doesn't recognize good talent when they see it! anyway, this is one of the best movies I have ever seen or owned, and that includes all my action movies....

Summary: The difference between a movie and the Olympics.
Review: Of course it is common sense that the surprise move at the end of this film is majorly illegal in pairs figure skaing, but you've also got to understand that they mentioned the legality of that in the movie. And of course, in 1992, it may just have been a gray area factor, if not, then you have to look at it as it is, it is fiction, nothing more. And you have to allow your mind to allow that fiction in a fictional movie. As far as the transformation of a hockey player into a figure skater in 4 years is not that hard at all, cause you've got to understand that he already was a good skater to begin with. The only he had to learn was grace in his moves and how to use a toe pick. And as far as spot lights in a darkened Olympic stadium, of course we all know they don't do that in real life, the stadium is fully lit. It is funny, fullfilling, entertaining and certainly worth the time taken to watch it. I give it great thumbs up, and you will not be disappointed at all. Pay attention to the story, not the techincalities of a fictional movie.

Summary: Very inaccurate portrayal of Olympic-level pair skating
Review: I'm surprised that the many who have reviewed this movie haven't pointed out that, while it is supposed to show Olympic-level skating, it does not. First off, the head-banger, where D.B is swinging Moira by her ankles, is illegal in Olympic competition. There are only a few professional pair skaters who even attempt this move. In addition, anyone who has ever studied physics will tell you that flinging Moira into the air will NOT result in her completing several in-air rotations in a position that will enable her to land on her feet in a proper landing position. She'll only slam into the boards, if she doesn't sail right over them. Also, why was the competition conducted under spot lights? I'd love to know when the last Olympics was that was conducted in spot lights in an indoor rink. The only time you'll see spots at an Olympic-style event is during the exhibitions, not the actual competition. The other big flaw is the implication that a hockey player can be transformed into a pair skater in only 4 years. It takes far longer than that to learn the proper skating, jump, lifting and throw-jump techniques needed in pair skating.
