Summary: DVD a close call over VHS
Review: Flesh Gordon has achieved the status of a minor cult film. Although it carefully instructs the viewer not to confuse it with the real Flash Gordon, it follows the story of the first Flash Gordon serial fairly closely, at least for the first third of the film. Part of its cult status comes from the campy style and humor, but mostly it is the combination of cheesy soft-core porn with relatively decent special effects. The DVD shows that strange amalgamation clearly. Overall, the picture quality is fairly mediocre, perhaps not unexpected in a movie this age that was made on a very low budget in the first place. There is a lot of grain in many of the scenes, and some of them are washed out as well. But the worst scenes are the live action scenes (though not all the live action scenes are bad). The special effect scenes, especially the stop-motion animation scenes, are pretty good. They are sharp and the colors are bright and deep. It is obvious that much more care was put into making the special effects than into the rest of the movie. The sound is also nothing special and the supplemental material consists only of a trailer. The DVD does provide a better viewing experience than the VHS, but not a lot better. We're not talking Dark City, here. If you already have this movie on VHS, it may not be worth upgrading (though the trailer, slightly better picture and sound, attractive cover on a Alpha Keep case, and the permanence of DVD was enough for me) but if you don't have it and want it, then the DVD is the way to go.

Summary: So bad it's good... well, kinda
Review: Flesh Gordon is easily one of the "best" worst movies that I've ever seen. If you're openminded and enjoy a good eroti-comedy, then you might enjoy this one. The picture here isn't great and neither is the sound (especially since it's called a collector's edition), but it's okay for what it is. Just don't watch this movie with kids since it contains both male and female full frontal nudity.

Review: Flesh Gordon is indeed a CULT CLASSIC. But sadly he is the weakest character in the film. I liked Flexi and Wang. Every character is just hilarious and interesting(?) except for ol' fleshy. Flesh was a better person in the sequel. But hes not so bad that I would change the 5 star rating. This film is funny and I love the song that Wang sings called "Flesh Gordon Is Dead". I loved it and couldent stop laughing. This movie was made by a teenager spite the fact that theres a planet called "PORNO". Still, a very funny CULT CLASSIC.

Review: Flesh Gordon is only a classic to those of us who saw the series on Saturday morning television and remember its backgound buzz like we do the smell of burning leaves in the Fall.I enjoyed this movie so much 25 years ago that I'm buying a copy today. The acting is below average, but the writing is superb. The jokes are sometimes as subtle as Mister Peabody and his boy Sherman -- and if you don't catch that, you probably won't like Flesh Gorden. Dick

Review: Flesh Gordon, Is a movie for science fiction fans. The Plot is thin, with little nudity for an adult film. But for the price its a must for couples to watch and laugh together.

Summary: something to offend almost everyone
Review: hello space cadets !!! now when i give this five stars, please do not think this is oscar material because it's obviosuly not. however, the film is very amusing and fun to watch so it's tops in the cult classics department and i think you'll agree. first and foremost, there is something here to literally offend almost every viewer out there so i do not recommend if you are prudish or easily offended by sexually suggestive material as there is lotsa sex here. flesh gordon is the kinda film you simply have to see to actually believe. as far as the special effects go, i actually prefer the effects here to say something like star wars or any star trek episodes. some have mentioned that the film looks quite grainy but i didn't find that very distracting. this film brings back fond memories of the old flash gordon tv series which i watched at a young age of five. at the same time, it has enough camp to give rocky horror and/or austin powers a real run for their money. it's a shame there aren't more films like this anymore. what would be even better is a return of midnite mvoies at the local multiplex. whatever happened to that anyway?

Review: I enjoyed this movie sex comedy. A reasonable amount nudity not graphic by todays standards ( thats a good thing )hammy acting and fun. The women are exploited of course, but done in a sexy way. Good directing reasonable acting and scenery. definately a classic of it's type. Worth a look, but of course it has dated a bit.

Summary: So... is it really widescreen or not?
Review: I find it strange that this movie is supposedly in "widescreen," yet the aspect ratio for it as shown on the Amazon website is only that of 1.33:1, which is not a widescreen ratio. That is a standard screen (ie "pan-and-scan") ratio. I found that this same blooper occurred with the Robert Crumb DVD, "Crumb." So please, Amazon, get your story straight.

Summary: Hate to say it, but...
Review: I first saw this movie when I was 16 at the drive-in drunk on Boonesfarm. I thought it was hilarious.I've always wanted to see it again, but could never find it. Over the past 18 years I've told everyone they've got to see it.I finally found it at Amazon, so I immediately bought it.I couldn't wait to see it again.Well, I hate to say it, but I should have let it remain a memory. I forced myself to make it 3/4 of the way through, but finally had to turn it off.(And I like wierd stuff). The acting was beyond horrible. The special effects were intended to remain true to original series, but they were actually worse! It was an excellent concept, but the end result was just plain awful. I will give it one more shot. Maybe a little smoke will make it more entertaining.

Review: I remember seeing this movie in High School and I remember I thought it was pretty funny......well, I wish I would have saved my money and my memory.....it wasn't either. I would pass on this if I were you......and I wish I had been. Peace, Morley
