Review: I remember the first time I saw Renee Zellweger in " JERRY MAGUIRE".She acted as the a single mother with 4 years lovely boy. At that time, I think she has very wonderful performance in this film. She gives me the warm, tender feeling that she really likes my mother. I cannot help myself from loving she deeply. I bought the DVD of BRIDET JONES'S DIARY with my mother yesterday. It is reported that this funny,engaging film. And my classmates give a lot of good criticism in this film. After dinner, I watched with mother. I love memorable performance of Renee Zellweger act who is busy career woman approaching a "certain age", uncomfortably unmarried Bridget.I pride of Renee will to put on weight to play Bridget Jones. Although she missed out on a fashion magazine cover because she is too fat. I think she has very lovely fat look. I also love the Colin Firth's performance in the film. Mr Darce is just kind of man I am looking for all life. "I like you very much just as you are" At last, he gave up the opporunity which go to the USA to stay with Bridget. So romantic...... RENEE ZELLWEGER AND COLIN FIRTH IS IRRESISTIBLE!

Summary: Elizabeth and Darcy beware...
Review: If you like BBC/A&E's Pride and Prejudice and Four Weddings and a Funeral - Then you must see this. I wasn't going to see it because I thought here is Colin, again playing some poor sap who doens't get the girl or looses the girl, etc. But then I saw the full length trailer. In it is the fight between Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. At that point I knew I had to see it. The fight was just too comical not to see. It is great. However, I did read the book directly after seeing it in the theater. I was disappointed at some of the Story line change. The book is much more like a modern day Pride and Prejudice, except I don't think Bridget can match up to Elizabeth. Anyhow, all around great movie.

Summary: A Definite Watch Movie!
Review: I wasn't too sure I wanted to see this movie until it came on accidentally while I was painting a room. I could only see some of the movie but heard all of it which was enough for me to rent it and see it end to end. It was wonderful, if you like movies like "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and very witty. Hugh Grant plays the part oh too well based upon his previous roles which he seems typecast into. Not a problem as he is good at it.

Review: This movie had be laughing non-stop the first time I watched it! Rene Zellweger is fabulous and I can't imagine anyone else bringing more life to her character. I think we can all relate to Bridget Jones's life at least a couple times during the film. Definitely worth buying--it's the kind of movie that you can watch over and over and still find new witty things to laugh at. Try it once with subtitles. Sometimes the British accents are a little thick.

Summary: Lovely Renee in Delightful Romantic Comedy a la Jane Austen
Review: Last year, in my class at women's college where I teach, I quoted the name of this film, as one of the best I saw of that year; yes, I talked about this delightful romantic comedy "Briget Jones's Diary." The reaction from students, all twenty-something females, was, as it turned out, pretty loud, a sort of approving "ohhhh." They thought, probably, I, thirty-something MALE teacher, would not be seeing this film. Guys, (and this case, meaning males only) I say, "Don't think that the film is made for only "girls." That the film is based on Helen Fielding's bestselling books is nothing but its origin, and the film adaptation is more than what you expect, that is, more than just a descriptions of daily life of female office workers. Not interested? OK, you may ignore my advice, but I guess it's not a bad idea for any of us to get the inside view of vulnerable sides of those females working next to you, or walking on streets of London with their confident strides, apparently strong and independent. And that is especially when delectable Renee Zellweger is Briget, heavy-smoking thirty-something, with no boyfriend, but with her own honest views on works, sex, and life. One day Briget Jones meets her love, or thinks she meets one, in Daniel, her boss in the publishing company she is working at. It started with an e-mail message from him, which was tinged with slightly sexually harrassing comment on her skirt, but, hell, who cares! when Daniel is played by typically English handsome beau Hugh Grant. Oh, but she should have known better. Then, enters grim Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), who doesn't seem to know how to smile, who had once encountered Briget at the awful curry party (where he showed up in an eqaully awful sweater). Behind his off-putting attitudes, however, it comes out later, there is something warm and human, but it takes time for her to learn that, and for true love to triumph. As practically every British people know, the name of "Darcy" is inspired by Jane Austen novel "Pride and Prejudice," and in acclaimed BBC TV adaptaion of that novel, Colin Firth played the namesake Darcy, an epitome of British gentleman, grossly misunderstood by the heroine. As this BBC production was written by Andrew Davies, who also credited as one of the co-writers of "Briget," it is inevitable for us to compare those two works, and there are at several points intentional allusions to this classic book in the film. Perhaps Firth himself may loath to be typecast, but he is no doubt suitable for the role. So is Hugh Grant, who plays this irresponsible twit Daniel, but, actually, he played the similar character (who repeats a favorite phrase "the thing is") in "An Awfully Big Adventure" (1995) alongside with Alan Rickman. Check out if interested. But the real treasure of the film is, as you know, Renee Zellweger, whose presence, literal and metaphorical, dominates the world of Briget Jones. She is the one you can always relate to, male or female, and whatever she thinks or does would reveal those secret things deep in the hearts of those "girls" at your office, with lovely Renee always making you laugh and care for her, and if you're really working like her, most of all, look at your own life. If you're a kind of person who wants to throw things at TV while watching "Ally McBeal" or "Sex and the City," don't worry. Briget's down-to-earth character would never make you. And another joy is spotting some of the celebrities; two famous writers appear at a party scene, and look for Honor Blackman, "Bond-girl" in "Goldfinger," and the first partner of John Steed in still popular 60s British cult TV series "Avengers."

Summary: To DVD or not to DVD?
Review: This is one of those movies where the decision to get it on VHS or DVD could go either way. I actually have both formats (because I got the video before I had a DVD player), and after some thought, I'm glad I laid out the extra $$$ to get the DVD as well. Why was I so ambivalent? Well, you see, besides the fact that I loved the book (definitely better than the film), I liked this movie particularly because of Colin Firth's presence in it. However, the bonus material on the DVD doesn't have much in the way of extra Colin Firth footage. He's not in any of the deleted scenes, and appears only briefly during the behind-the-scenes featurette. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the bonus material on the DVD, which also includes audio commentary from the director, Sharon MacGuire (she make some amusing, and a few relevatory, comments, without getting overly technical), a couple of music videos, and samples of the original "Bridget Jones's Diary" column (which existed before the book). Plus you can have English subtitles--which revealed some dialogue I hadn't previously understood--and/or listen to it in French. So, all in all, a nice package for fans of the film, with satisfying (but not overwhelming) extras not to be found on VHS.

Review: Renee Zellweger is perfect playing a chubby, forty-something, cigarette-addicted British woman whose life is a complete disaster. The film itself is a letdown, with some sluggish bits and unfunny British humour but Zellweger and a few hilarious scenes manage to save this from sinking.

Review: Boring boring boring boring and more boring was inside this movie.I rented it after hearing mixed reveiws.After starting it I thought that it was pretty good.Not the greatest flick in the world but decent.After about 10 minutes I think my mind fell asleep.The plot was awful and long.The cast was an extremly talented cast but there talent died in this movie.Renee Zellwinger(Me Myself and Irene,The Bachlor)and Huge Grant(Notting Hill,About a Boy)have great potential to do great movies but this movie just kills there potential.I knew that the movie was based on the book and everyone says that the book is good and some say it's bad.If it's anything like the movie don't waste your money.Other people may have other opions about this movie but for those off you who do not know wheather to see it or not....don't waste the time.But for those who want to see it... ENJOY!!!

Review: When I was watching the scene of this cute girl, wearing a childish pijamas sitting in her sofa with a glass of wine in one hand a cigarette in the other, singing "All by myself" almost breaking into tears, I said: "Oh God, that's me!!". And the truth is there is a bit of Bridget Jones in every woman, and that is what I find enchanting about this movie. Finally I see this "imperfect" perfect heroine, funny to the point of beeing ridiculuos, not so self assured, dealing with the trauma of loneliness, social pressure about marriage, trying to find the "Mr. Right", afraid to be a "tragic spinster" in her 30's, weight-obssesed and trying to quit: food, alcohol and smoking, a real woman, that's what she is!! Irony is the key element of this movie, even when it goes far away with it, it had made me think a lot about real life, and I guess life goes far with irony most of the time too!! "This movie is a searing vision of the wounds our (last and present) century has inflicted on traditional femininity", where wicked [typical] just-bone-and-skin girls are showed to be the right example of beauty, a time when women have to be "more clever" than anyone to be taken seriously at work, and even though we are beeing exposed to alcohol and cigarettes advertising all the time and everywhere (I know in USA not anymore), have to be able to say "no" because "perfect woman model" has to have all this healthy habits, and be always clean and nice-smelling, well dressed and hair perfectly combed all the time, if not the character usually is "the weird one" who has to change. So, all I have to say is:"I LOVE BRIDGET!!!" She is the first female character that doesn't make me feel bad about myself as a mortal beeing, she is full of normal flaws, with normal worries, and a normal HEART. And, thank God!! She finds true love for beeing "just as she is". I certainly believe that love can be found in the most unexpected person, that the person who really loves you does everything to help and support you to be a better person, not to change who you are, and if that person gets to know you in your worst moment and still likes you, well, IT'S A KEEPER. I do believe Renée Zellweger deserved the Oscar as best actress, because her performing was flawless, you could read every emotion in her character all the time, even in her slightest gesture. You could see the change in her weight from ups and downs, hard thing to do!! But she looked very beautiful with those extra pounds, maybe should consider to keep them, or at least some of them. I can say the rest of the cast was well chosen, and the director did an excellent job, with simple and clean cinematographic language but taking care of the most insignificant detail to be perfect. I actually like the way the soundtrack of the movie, a selection of songs, matched very well with every moment of the movie, bringing an hilarious, warming and less presumptuous touch. I have seen both ending credits from the american and the english versions, and I can say both are excellent, but if you have seen only the american ending credits version, where some characters tell their opinions about the new realtionship of Bridget, you just have to see the english version, because it's a home-made 8mm movie of Bridget and Mark in their childhood, when she used to "run naked in his paddling pool", absolutely adorable!! And, from now on, Colin Firth has entered in the private club of delicious, sexy, charming and adorable males from movies I like.
