Summary: Keaton Shines in Great Comedy!
Review: Something's Gotta Give is one of the year's best films and best comedies as it teams up Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton, who seemed to love every minute they shared onscreen. Nicholson plays a man who only dates girls under 30 and is shocked to find he can fall in love with a woman his own age, played by Diane Keaton, who has never looked better. She gives her best performance since she won an Oscar for Annie Hall and should be on her way to another as a very career sucessful woman who has no confidence with men. It is great to see her reaction to both Nicholson's and Keanu Reeves' character. Nicholson and Keaton light up the screen with every scene they are in and Amanada Peet and Reeves do very well in their supporting role, as does the underused Frances McDormand as Keaton's sister. Nancy Meyers, who had a huge hit with What Women Want, does a much better job here and makes for a great adult romantic comedy featuring actors over 50. A great film that will be remembered.

Review: Come on ladies. Are we really as lame as this? Yeah, it annoys me that old guys can date young girls and it's harder for us older women to get dates. (I have to admit though it didn't annoy me when I was younger and knew I could date anyone from 25 up to - my limit then - 50). That doesn't mean I don't need a movie to have something to make it worth seeing. I have about as much contempt for this as I did for "First Wives Club" which was basically about female stalkers.But this is pathetic! I kept waiting for these "smart" lines some people wrote about. Could someone post an example of one please? I'd like to know what others consider so "smart". The only line that made me laugh came from Nicholson: "Now who'd have thought that would be WORSE news." Nancy Meyers caters to female resentments in a way that infuriates me. We women are not so stupid. Or maybe we are. And maybe THAT'S what really annoys. This is a movie that would call Michael Douglas and Zeta-Jones a bad thing, but do an Oprah "You go girl" for Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. In fact, it pretty much does exactly that (and with Keanu Reeves - who should have stayed in the Matrix - of all people). The old saying is "what's good for the goose is good for the gander", but "what's good for the gander is also good for the goose". The sexual politics of this one just don't hold up! And why lecture anyway? Why even bother to be negative about who other people date at all, or their ages? What business is it of ours? Resentment doesn't replace humor. I'm not paying for a movie ticket to have my resentment massaged. But the worst part is it isn't funny OR believable. If you think Keaton's plays would even get looking room on Broadway, you need to get out more (especially to the theater). Why is she so rich? Unless she got - one female advantage - a good divorce settlement from her husband, now remarrying a younger woman - a BAD thing. She would NOT make that money from that kind of writing. Unless she wrote weak comedies like this for us supposedly weak-willed disgruntled women. It works for Nancy Meyers. I'll tell you what. I was mature enough to make my own sexual decisions at 20 and I'm still mature enough to make my own sexual decisions at 46. And that pathetic crying scene! I felt utterly and completely sorry for Diane Keaton for having to do that. Couldn't anyone in editing see it went on way too long? And over what? A one night fling? From "Annie Hall" to this? But why did half the reviews in the press say it was great to see her and then go on to ask why the cameraman made her look so bad? That's how a woman of that age looks, and Keaton looks better than most of us will. This particular mature woman does NOT like having smoke blown up her ... well you know, and particularly not by ingratiating, pedestrian, inconsistent garbage like this.

Summary: GREAT COMMENTARY FROM NICHOLSON
Review: The best thing about the digital version of SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE is the exceptional commentary with Jack Nicholson and filmmaker Nancy Meyers. I know of no other record of Nicholson speaking so openly about his acting choices. There are tantalizing references to deleted scenes not included as extras on this disc. A fun and funny mature romantic comedy that will satisfy and delight.

Review: (...) Why ever would a beautiful woman like Diane's character fall for an old crotchety goat like Jack when she has that hunky doc at her beck and call? Jack Nicholson is we(...)ll past his prime - and in my book was NEVER attractive.
Had quite a bit of difficulty suspending my disbelief on this particular one. (Actually the whole sex thing with him made me a bit queasy - regardless of the age of the female he was bedding.(...)

Review: I should just say that I can't stand Keanu Reeves. He is such a horrible actor. I didn't think this movie was funny, and it dragged on for quite a while. spend your money elsewhere.

Summary: Funny Romantic Comedy that Went On Too Long...
Review: This romantic comedy with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton had its moments. It made me laugh out loud a few times which is wonderful, but the movie could have ended in about 5 different places. It went on so long that I was tempted to shut it off, which is a shame because the acting was tremendous.

Review: There was nothing new here...plot, characters, you name it. We've seen it all before. Diane Keaton was very good, but that didn't help this stale script. Jack Nicholson lacked his sparkle and to believe he turned on Keaton's daughter makes you want to say "What?".

Review: This movie is one of the best this year. It has the most prolific actor of all time, Mr. Nicholson. How come Keanu Reeve can't still get his act together? Good thing he's still very cute and mysterious at 39. Call me at 156-38-3461.

Summary: Keaton and Nicholson Shine in Romantic-Comedy
Review: Jack Nicholson and (especially) Diane Keaton are the two reasons to watch this pleasing, if unremarkable romantic comedy. Nicholson portrays a womanizing playboy in love with Keaton's daughter, Amanda Peet. Through ridiculous, sitcom-style machinations, we end up with Nicholson, injured laid up in Keaton's home, where they predictably fall in love. Add to this Keanu Reeves, as Nicholson's dashing doctor who also is smitten by Keaton.
The film's plot is wafer-thin, and the supporting cast is a bit bland. Peet, while attractive, is not match for her older costars, and Francis McDormand as Keaton's feminist sister is completely wasted (though she looks fabulous). Keanu Reeves manages to be charming, though when in the presence of Keaton or Nicholson, he shrinks away in their shadows.
While Nicholson, who is wonderful, looks pretty good for his age, it's Keaton who shocks audiences with her stunning figure. That she is sexy is not surprising. Diane Keaton has always cornered the market of "Intellectual, brainy babes." But in this movie, we are finally allowed to see that, yes, Diane Keaton has (...) and legs -- stripped of her Annie Hall uniform of oversized jackets, vests, floppy ties and floor-lenght skirts, she looks stunning, making it very believable that a tenderoni like Reeves would fall in love.
The movie was a welcome hit, and it garnered deserved kudos for its stars.

Summary: Keaton & Nicholson the magic is back ......
Review: I saw Jack Nicholson's last hyped movie 'Whats the Matter with Harry' or something like that and I was disgusted ... what a dog of a film .... My fears that this would have been the end of that fabulous real life cartoon Nicholson character have been calmed when I saw his perfomance in Something's Gotta Give .... What a pleasant and enjoyable light hearted film poking fun at our modern 'divorce' society. The acting is superb and, contrary to most of the DVD garbage out there today this is a movie that will brighten up whatever rainy and dreary Sunday afternoon that you decide to play it .....
