Summary: one of a kind !
Review: I'm lucky enough to have a copy of Picnic in VHS and wonder why it's not released in DVD format as well. I have seen such big amount of trash in DVD and cannot understand the reason great movies like Picnic simply do not show the face in this new media.

Summary: This Classic Should Be Re-released!
Review: Picnic is one of the all time great movies. A stellar cast and multi-story plot offer great acting and pure entertainment. The music theme is unforgettable. What a relief from the drivel coming out these days. PLEASE re-release it.

Summary: FANTASTIC! AN ALL-TIME CLASSIC..........
Review: This is my all time favorite movie! Please, please release it. I check constantly in video stores and on the internet looking for it to be released.

Summary: Please put this back on the market; it is a classic.
Review: I am writing my comments because I hope this will prompt the studio to reissue Picnic. It seems there is enough interest. I think I have seen it listed as shown on television only once in the last several years. The music is great; wonderful actors; ahead of its time in dealing with an issue that most people hadn't thought that much about changing--the social status of women. And, to this day I think the dance scene with William Holden and Kim Novak is unequaled for its sensuality. Please make it available again!

Summary: Nostalgic for an adolescent of the 50s
Review: Very great cast, but Kim Novak stood out markedly for her very striking but enigmatic looks. She has an air of mystery in her, even her private life confirms this. Though I have not seen this movie again, I once saw a copy being sold in KMart. I was very tempted to buy since I had been looking for this movie for a long time. After careful and pain thought, I decided not to buy. My reason? - Revisiting the scenes of the movie, I thought, would only burst the bubble of my fantasy and nostalgia. A second viewing might only serve to dampen whatever has been held as sacred and wonderful all these years, particularly Novaks gradual change of heart. But maybe this time, I want to see it on DVD.

Summary: They don't make 'em like Hal Carter anymore!
Review: "Picnic" is indescribably sexy. The scene with Novack and Holden dancing on the dock is so provocative and it must be viewed undisturbed in order to understand exactly what is happening between the two characters. The body language speaks louder in this movie than the dialogue. It is by far, a treasure to own. I am eagerly awaiting the redistribution of this movie...last month it was available and the copy I purchased has been damaged. I must get my hands on another. Please get yourself a copy any way you can!

Summary: Make a Labor Day Tradition of this Under-Appreciated Classic
Review: I first saw this movie on TV as a teenager in Germany. (Not only was I fuzzy on the language, but I doubt I knew who Kim Novak was.) It had a huge impact and stuck with me, but it was when I stumbled upon it later as a young adult that I fell in love with this film. My tradition now is to watch it every Labor Day, because it perfectly captures both the bittersweet flavor of the end of summer and the small-town nostalgia of the Midwest (where I grew up). Rosalind Russell nearly steals the movie in what she describes as one of her favorite roles. Her body language alone is eloquent. The entire starring and supporting cast is superb (look for Phyllis Newman as a teenaged admirer of Holden). "Picnic" is the Labor Day equivalent of "It's a Wonderful Life"!
