Summary: The Graduate
Review: I love this film!!! One of my all time faves. The performances in this movie are outstanding, to say the least, Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, and Katharine Ross are excellent and play their characters well. This is such a realistic movie and I can see why this movie has endured from generation to generation. How many men around Ben's age have not felt like this, confused about their own identity and sexuality and what society predicts for them?? The character of Mrs. Robinson was so evil it made me want to spit, here was a woman who has everything in our minds but really in her own mind has nothing, thinks of herself as nothing and so to express her hatred for herself and her surroundings, she has this affair, knowing full well that Benjamin is more interested in her daughter than in her. Elaine was kind of a weird character, but I can see why she liked Benjamin at first and then later doesn't want to hang around with him because he tells her that he's been sleeping with her mother! Also, the scene where Mr. Robinson, Elaine's father confronts Benjamin in his apartment is such a great scene. Ben tells him that he's not in love with his wife, but his daughter, great scene. Mike Nichols directing is superb, I can see why he won an Oscar for this, the acting is great especially since the age differences between these actors was not as it was supposed to be (Hoffman was 30, Bancroft 35, and Ross 27) but you'd never notice it here! Great film, five stars, two thumbs up!

Summary: One word: Plastics.
Review: This is one of my favourite movies, and succeeds (for me) on every level. Even without viewing it as a "movie of the times" which reflects the historical context of the 60's, and without delving into any symbolism (drowning, desire etc), The Graduate is still a wonderful film on the strength of the witty script and the wonterful performances. Dustin Hoffman is great, and I love the way Ben speaks in the movie (you have to see it to understand). Ben must be one of my favourite movie characters. Best compliment of the film: "No really Mrs Robinson, you're the most attractive of all my parent's friends." Well thank YOU.

Summary: This movie is a classic.
Review: This movie personifies a time and place in American history which, so often, can not be put into words. The movie, much like the era in which it is about, is organized chaos. The director of this movie captures this theme with style.

Summary: Very well directed ... but
Review: This is one of the best-directed movies ever made, but the plot leaves a lot to be desired. My sympathy for Ben eventually turned to loathing as he discards people in his wake with little or no remorse. Does he care about anyone but himself? Just who am I rooting for at the end? Overall a good movie, but I wouldn't have put it in the top-ten ...

Summary: Great Classic Movie
Review: I love this movie. It pinpointed exactly how I felt when I graduated, kinda scared and lost and not sure about future. recent college grads can really relate. It's a great gift for a college grad too!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Couldn't relate
Review: Knowing very little about camera angles, sountracks, lighting, and so forth, I can only talk about the story line which, I must say, is absolutely horrid. A college graduate fools around with his parents' (married) best friend AND their daughter. Are there repercussions? Sort of, but he still gets the girl in the end. The one redeeming quality of the movie is the symbolism discussed in the reviews below. But the story simply left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Summary: A boring movie not worthy of being in the Top 100 List
Review: The Graduate is the type of movie you only see once; it has nothing of charm or interest, I can't seem to understand why it's #7 in the top 100 movies of all times. The only thing good about it was the great score(soundtrack), but besides that you should be safe choosing something else. Sonia

Summary: Excellent Movie - So-so DVD
Review: This is my favorite movie of all time. There is a lot more here than a comic love story. The more you watch it the more you understand it. However, I was disappointed with the DVD. I also have the Laserdisc and the sound quality and the commentary on it are far superior to the sound and the extra stuff on the DVD. Nevertheless, you can't beat this movie so if this is your only format option - get it!

Summary: Recent college grads should see this!
Review: I saw this movie because the author of the book that the movie was based on went to my alma mater (Williams College) and Ben was supposed to have graduated from there, though its never mentioned by name in the movie. Anyways, I found it very amusing how the old saying that the more things change the more they stay the same holds true in this movie; there will always be college grads who are clueless as to what to do next! The DVD picture quality was excellent.
