Summary: A movie about a Tango movie, but not really...
Review: This film slaps you on a regular basis, not that you would need it to stay awake. The concepts are there, the test is "Can you follow along and not get lost?" You begin by thinking you're along for the playwrights ride, then you learn it's about love - in all it's forms - then you discover history in it's ugliest, and Tango is simply the disguise. It is a bit drab in some areas but the alarm clocks along the way and the subtext is perfect for those who cut their "film" teeth on Fellini, Truffaut, and Bergman. You will want to see it more than once just so you can get it all. There's more here than meets the eye.

Summary: Performance Tango
Review: This is a good film about putting an Argentine tango production number together. It's NOT about ballroom or salon tango. The routines are fine, but not much you can use in a ballroom. The plot is OK. The women dance very well. The older men dance best. The musicians are fantastic; it's the best part of this movie. I enjoyed the disc commentary too. Check out "The Tango Lesson". It's also a great tango film.

Summary: A Choreographic Tour de force
Review: This is an impressive cinematic experience which borders on pure ballet. What Evita achieved in some measure in its operatic effort (for all that it was worth)the movie Tango unleashes a continuous virtuosic display of stunning dance sequences which is not unlike that of classical ballet. To be sure, the visual (not special) effects assume precedence over any character development, although the main character's angst is to some degree fairly well defined. There is some philosophical adumbrations, some of which betray influences of Jorge Luis Borges; namely, the omnipresence of mirrors, which suggest the reality/illusion references; the encapsulated, closed environment of the mise-en-scene, the inveterate lonliness of the protagonist. Overall the film tends toward the abstract, not unlike a painting in perpetual motion.

Summary: Beautiful, amazing, fabulous
Review: This is one of the best films I have seen in quite a long time. It captures the spirit of Argentina through its beautiful, artistic portrayal of the Argentine cultural experience throughout history. It is not simply about the dance; the dance is the director's medium of expression. If you're looking for a film that explores a nation through a dance that epitomizes its culture and spirit, The Tango, this is the movie for you. It is not, and I'm quite sure was not intended to be, a psuedo-instructional video about dancing the tango. For that you'll have to look somewhere else.

Summary: No talent movie
Review: This movie is supposed to be about Tango - a dance! Yet is has no talented dancers in it. Juan Carlos Copes is all washed up. Thirty some years of same old steps and same old music and same old tricks. Cecilia Narova is a worse female dancer than Julio Bocca as a female dancer. Mia Maestro is nice looking, but that's about it. Carlos Rivarola has nothing to offer, zip, nada. He is there because the producer used him in the "Tango Bar" movie a few years back. Carlos Saura obviously knows nothing about Tango, otherwise why would he ignore the best tango dancers in the world, who were there in Buenos Aires, right under his nose, but are not seen on this no talent movie.

Review: though a spanish modern movie (which are generaly very good), this one fails.
story line is a litle pale, and the overwhelming tango parts are too much for my taste.

Review: Un derroche visual y auditivo sin paralelo, como solo Carlos Saura sabe hacerlo, te atrapa en la butaca e inunda tus sentidos. Merece estar es cualquier colección que se precie de respetable. Una de las mejores películas del año.

Review: Where is dancing? Where is tango dancing in this movie called "Tango"? Where are the beautiful ladies dancing tango? I mean, Julio La Bocca is good, but he is not my type of a lady. The choreographies are the worst. Most of the music is boring. There is no story. Dialog...enough said. Don't waste your time on this one.
