Summary: Samantha Morton and A&E's Jane Eyre are the BEST!!!!!!
Review: We LOVE A&E's production of Jane Eyre the BEST, and we have seen four other Jane Eyre movies. A&E's Jane Eyre is so MOVING. You can FEEL the characters every emotion by their GREAT facial expressions and how they speak to each other. The Beautiful music and everything about this production is so WONDERFUL. This movie really Tugs at your Heart. It is truly UNFORGETTABLE!!!!!

Summary: Compelling adaptation of a great book
Review: There have been many adaptations of Jane Eyre; the two best, in my opinion, are this one and the Timothy Dalton/BBC version. This version has better casting (Dalton is a good actor but much too handsome to play Mr. Rochester; this version's Gemma Jones makes a delightful Mrs. Fairfax) and is lavishly produced; it was a joy to watch. My main problems with this version are its brevity (I could easily have watched for another hour or two) and the many excisions it makes from the story. Poor Jane gets cheated out of both legacy and cousins, and her stay at Moor House is dealt with so fast it leaves you breathless. Also, although the script kept the spirit of the novel very well, I would have liked to see more of Bronte's dialog make it into the script. I especially miss the place when Rochester asks Jane if she thinks him hideous, and she replies, "Very, sir. You always were, you know." That said, however, I watch this movie over and over and recommend it to all lovers of Bronte.

Summary: EXCELLENT!
Review: As I have never read the book, I'll not be one to judge that work. This movie however was spell binding! Stunning in it's photography, and moving in it's actors' portrayals. This is the most romantic film I believe I have ever seen. As for Mr. Ciaran Hinds, I had never seen him before today, but intend to watch his other contributions to the world of acting. I would highly recommend this movie (and have!) to all!

Summary: The best of the Jane Eyre movies!
Review: Let me say first, that I have seen every movie made of the book. The book enchanted me so much that I had to see them. The first version with Orson Wells was wonderfully acted but sadly produced. It left many scenes out. That is my second favorite. This is my favorite by far because it included many of the scenes that have been forgotten by most of the movies. It did have many flaws, and if they would have stuck to the book it would have been better, but I recommend it highly for anyone wanting a good veiwing.

Summary: I already reviewed this but forgot to adjust the star rating
Review: I already submitted a review, but forgot to adjust the star rating. So my tepid review has five stars -- very confusing. Please correct! Thanks.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This little romance misses the spirit of Bronte's novel.
Review: This is a fluffy little movie that is devoid of passion or intensity. Samantha Morton is appealing, but not deep, and Ciaran Hinds' Rochester is a clownish buffoon. The movie tells too much and shows too little.

Summary: A&E does a great job!!
Review: This is a wonderful version of this classic & my all-time favorite book! Both Mr. Hinds & Ms. Morton portray their characters with much passion & feeling. It really grabs your heart!!

Summary: Intelligent, passionate version of an oft-filmed classic
Review: Brilliant screenplay, fine cast, and haunting views of the English countryside make this the most intelligent yet passionate adaptation of Bronte's oft-filmed novel. Morton is perfect as Jane, the feisty orphan turned governess. Hinds is unforgettable as Rochester, the world-weary aristocrat who risks everything for love. Purists will complain that the script omits key episodes from the book, but the film is truer to the spirit of Bronte's characters than all earlier cinema versions.

Summary: The best I've seen yet!
Review: I've read this book numerous times so I looked forward to seeing a fim versionof it. I've seen the Zefferelli version which was dull as powder. This version was believable. You felt pity for all involved in the tragedies. Sadly though it missed the mark. It should be longer because some of my favorite scenes have not made it into the movie like the "Gypsy" scene. Overall I'd suggest this to anyone who liked the book.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: This version completely lost the passion and truths of the novel. Jane Eyre, above all, was a woman of character, and I couldn't help but feel disappointed in the way she was portrayed in this movie. There seemed to be an attempt to translate the novel into political correctness, and it would have been better left alone. Jane seemed reduced to a pitiful co-dependency and Rochester, my dear Rochester! What a disappointment!! I agree that the 1986 version was much, much better at capturing Jane's spirit. It is difficult to portray someone "poor, obscure, plain and little" but not make her "souless and heartless."
