Summary: A must see
Review: This movie is perfect for music lovers of all types. The mystery is perfect and keeps you in suspense. The movie does not focus only on music, but rather tells the journey of a special violin, and how it is passed down through the ages. A spectacular movie.

Summary: A "Must Hear" In My Book!
Review: The Red Violin is a 'must hear' in the same vein as Amadeus or Impromptu - a wonderful, complex plot interspersed with virtuoso solo performances. The excellent acting and cinematography added to my enjoyment of the tracing of the lives this mystical instrument touched in its multi-century journey to the present. Joshua Bell was fantastic as the actual performer, and the 'air violin' that the actors had to perform was close enough as to not be distracting from the scenes.

Hear it now. Do not wait.

Summary: Wonderful film with great music.
Review: This is a wonderful film. The music is beautiful and masterfully played by young violinist, and Indiana University grad, Joshua Bell!

Review: A Masterpiece in film. The story is captivating. The film takes you on a journey that is exciting, sad, and historical. The ending was even more masterful.

Summary: A bit confused
Review: I loved the movie; indeed, it is one of the best I have seen this year. However, I was confused in several places where (I assume) the director thought we could all follow who was doing what. The ending is not one bit realistic or workable, considering the value involved and the number of people that could easily trace what happened. K-Mart puts anti-theft devices on a $15 CD. Wouldn't people dealing with items that cost LOTS more do (at least) something similar?

Anyway, a lot of movie for 15M.

Summary: Excellent Movie
Review: This was a beautifull movie. Although viewers may be turned off by the fact that it is subtitled, it is still a very good film. The fact that the movie has five different languages is what makes this film special. The characters are real and you see a good side in everyone. The story of a red violin and the people who have owned it is very original. I am highly impressed with this film.

Summary: Spectacular Film
Review: The Red Violin was one of my favorite films of 1999. The music, story telling method, and camera work was spectacular. The journey of this violin through 400 years in Italy, Austria, England, China, and the US was a fantastic story of both success and loss. This was the type of film I thought about for days after seeing it. The only drawback was the selection of Samuel L. Jackson for a key part in the film. He was not the right fit for the role. Overall... if you have not seen this film, it should be at the top of your list!

Summary: Extraordinary Movie With a Great Soundtrack
Review: "The Red Violin" represents some of the best writing, directing and camera work I have seen in recent years. Only "American Beauty," destined to be the movie of the year come Oscar time, is more visually and emotionally appealing. Sam Jackson as the central figure does a fine job of acting and his previous roles in movies like "Pulp Fiction" and "Eve's Bayou" fortunately do not filter into his subtle interpretation of this role. Jackson is not the star, however. The journey of the violin and its secret as it passes down through 400 years of history are the real stars of the movie. Don't miss this finely crafted movie made in Canada on a paltry $15 million budget. You won't regret it.
