Summary: Well Done Gwyneth!
Review: I was delightfully and thoroughly impressed with Paltrow as Emma. Jane Austen feared that readers wouldn't like Emma as much as she liked her, but thanks to Ms. Paltrow, the people who watch this movie will never be able to picture any other face than hers when reading Emma. Beside Ehle as Lizzie Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, this is the only adaptation of an Austen book where the actress actually gets the heroine perfect! Watch for Paltrows slight wrinkle of brow, and cross looks when being chastised by Mr. Knightly. And Thompson's rendition of Miss Bates is absolutely wonderful. This is a darling movie - hey, so what if the character development lacks a little, it's fun, entertaining, gets the message across and is beautiful to watch. For once I suggest watching the movie first (so as not to disappoint), then read the book for the in-depth story! Oh my, and I always thought I was an Austen purist!

Summary: Funny and charming!
Review: I love this movie, it is not better than the Jane Austen novel, but who cares! Gwyneth Paltrow's acting is precise -- her portrayal of the precocious match-maker Emma is excellent. All of the actors were great. Emma tried to be cupid and failed miserably, and she realized this when she fell in love herself.

This is a charming and memorable comedy that melts your heart and fills it with laughter. And I'm glad I saw it.

Summary: Emma
Review: Emma was a VERY good movie! I saw it in Social Studies today, and i totally fell in love with it! You should buy it or rent it! I know you'll love it! Gwenyth Paltrow is incredible in this movie, and the boy she ends up with at the very end is way cute! I hope this review was helpful to you! Bye everybody. :-)

Summary: Outstanding Feel Good Movie Anytime
Review: I fell in love with this storyline almost from the beginning. I think it was the music which first caught my attention. Music played a big role in describing the feelings of the characters as they progressed through the movie. Specifically when Emma tries so hard to "help" everyone and just doesn't seem to be accomplishing anything. One of my favorite romantic lines of all time is when her love tells her: "I rode through the rain!" And then he grins and then it disappears as if he wants her to know how he feels is serious. Oh! I love it!

Summary: Charming, Funny Emma
Review: I loved this movie! Then again, I love Jane Austen so loving Jane Austen movies isnt too hard for me. Gwyneth Paltrow is perfect as Emma: I love that she made Emmma extremely annoying at times, with her snooty smirk and bored, "I'm too good for all you people" expressions. Made her more realistic and like the character in the novel. She is also wonderfully beautiful, charming and sweet. Toni Collette doesnt quite look the part of Harriet but she acts so well it doesnt matter. Sophie Thompson is hilarious and touching as Miss Bates, and Mr. and Mrs. "E" are hysterical! Also, Mr. Woodhouse was appropriately hypovhondriacal. The sets were beautiful. Pretty faithful to the spirit of Jane, especially the sarcastic humor. I recommend it!

Summary: A Great Film!
Review: Ya know, the first time I attempted to watch this video I made it through 15 minutes then shut it off...I just couldn't get into it! I tried again 3 months later and WOW! Emma is now one of my all time favorite movies! I've seen it about 20 times! It's funny, romantic, has beautiful music and is just so entertaining. Highly reccomended!

Summary: A "good match" of romance & comedy
Review: What happens when a rich young lady, who plays match-maker to her friends, gets happily matched herself? "Emma" is just what happens. This rendition may not be as true-to-the-book as hard-core Austen fans might want it to be, but it sure does justice to it by lending more witty dialogues, especially between Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam. This, plus excellent musical selections more than made up for the changes from the book. Two downsides on the DVD, (1) non-anamorphic widescreen and (2) Dolby surround only (instead of DD 5.1).

Summary: Excellent!
Review: No matter how old you are, this film is a thoroughly enjoyable adaptation of Jane Austen's novel.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam are brilliant as the two leads.

Wonderfully funny, with an excellent supporting cast, I don't think anyone could dislike this film or be moved by Mr. Knightly's declaration of love to Emma at the end.

One to watch.

Summary: Good cast, especially Northam
Review: Gwyneth Paltrow's Emma is cute and delightful, mischieviously irritating, but Jeremy Northam fares much better as Mr. Knightley; he manages the rare feat of giving nuances to a comic character. Paltrow and Northam are a good love match, and one must admit, the movie's devilishly funny and heart-warmingly sweet. Visually, the movie is stunning, and the score is absolutely enchaning. A superb directorial debut from Douglas McGrath, "Emma" is a very good, witty, and charming adaptation.

Summary: Wonderful adaptation
Review: If you're looking for a more serene and literal adaptation of Jane Austen's work you'll want something like Persuasion, but this film stands strongly on its own merits as a more liberal translation of Emma. Witty, charming, delightful and crushingly romantic, this film never ages and is a worthwhile addition to anyone's movie collection. Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam are fantastic leads, but this is really an amazing ensemble piece in which everyone seems to shine. The soundtrack is fantastic as well. Highly recommended.
