Rating: Summary: so so Review: I'm a sucker for a pretty face, so wanted to see this because Gia was so beautiful. Angelina Jolie isn't quite as beautiful, but certainly attractive. As tabloid readers know, Jolie is an emotional wreck of a person, so that's probably why she plays this role so effectively! One of my boyhood friends played the small part of Gia's girl friend's boy friend. Hey, Reggie, it was fun to see you on the screen! Wish the part had been bigger! Anyway, the movie kind of dragged. But I love beautiful women, so I liked looking at the movie for that alone.
Rating: Summary: MUST SEE!!! Review: This movie introduced me to Jolie. If you are interested in history, this is a semi true story about one of the first women to contract and die from AIDS. It's really a heart wrenching story. Wonderfully produced and acted. Jolie's best preformance ever. You WILL love it!
Rating: Summary: jolie is better than gia Review: The movie was good but I could have done without the guys. I thought it could be one of those movies you watched with your husband to tease him a little. All and all it is as good as true stories go.
Rating: Summary: Gia Review: Have you ever been so lonely and bored that drinking or smoking or altering your state of mind seems like a good idea? Gia argues against that thought. Remarkably anti-drug, it features harrowing scenes of drug use, complete with infected heroin needles, popping veins, and even scarier depictions of the way drugs affect our mind and emotions. Based on the life of the late 80's supermodel/lesbian/heroin addict/AIDS victim, Gia Carangi (Angelina Jolie) this HBO film can't be so much labeled as an "issue" movie, although it clearly encompasses themes of anti-drug, anti-modeling industry, pro-gay, pro-AIDS awareness, and covers them more powerfully and with more artism than most films can do with just one of those heavy topics. When the tragic ending comes, Gia casts a dark, powerful spell. Kudos to Angelina Jolie and especially Elizabeth Mitchell as Gia's caring lover, Linda, now a near vet on playing lesbians.
Rating: Summary: I THINK ANGELINA JOLIE LOOKED LIKE HER IN THE MOVIE Review: THIS IS ABOUT A MODEL THAT DIED TO SOON ALL SHE WANTED WAS LOVE AND A FRIEND BUT SHE TURNED TO DRUGS TO GET RID OF HER PAIN MAYBE IF THERE WAS SOME OTHER WAY FOR HER TO FIND OUT HOW TO GET RID OF HER PAIN THEN SHE WOULD STILL BE ALIVE SHE WASNT LIKE OTHER MODELS ALL SNOBBY SHE SEEMED NICE AND CARING SOMEONE THAT CAN BE YOUR FRIEND AND SOMEONE YOU CAN TRUST
Rating: Summary: 4 stars for Angelina's nice bod Review: WOW.... That's all I can say. Go for it guys. You may well react the same way. But if you really want to see how good of an actress Angelina Jolie could be, watch "Girl, Interrupted".
Rating: Summary: Spellbinding Review: I sat spellbound by Angelina Jolie's performance. I've already become quite a fan, yet without amazon.com's review service I would not even have known that this film existed. What a powerhouse that woman is! How well drawn the characters, how true to life the doomed love story between the desperate Gia and her devoted, heartsick girlfriend. There is no competing with addiction. How difficult for her mother to refuse to let her come home knowing the dangers involved. "How can you tell when a junkie is lying?" she quips, "Their lips are moving."It's only too true. I particularly loved the statements made in reference to the beauty/fashion industry itself, what it does to women, both within the industry and those who are influenced by it. It reminded me of the Jean Kilbourne lecture "Still Killing Us Softly," which should be mandated viewing for anyone invested in media literacy. "We like them to look dead," says one of the photographers in the film. The fashion industry is a horrendous, misogynist behemoth that takes women in, chews them up and spits them out, and defines how women are "supposed" to look, live and love. And who makes the real money? Women express themselves by the way they look, Willhemina tells Gia. The less they say, the better. And silence, as they say, is death.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: The acting by Angelina Jolie in this movie was a precursor to her academy award winning role later. This is a tragic but true story about a woman who just wants to be loved and gets terribly horribly lost in that search. Thought provoking and insightful. Bring tissues.
Rating: Summary: A VERY POWERFUL MOVIE Review: GIA IS VERY STRONG, POWERFUL, AND MOVING. IT IS BASED ON A TRUE STORY WHICH MAKES ITS EVEN BETTER. IT'S ABOUT HER SHORT LIFE AND CAREER AS A MODEL, HER RELATIONSHIP WITH A WOMAN, HER ADDITION TO DRUGS, AND MORE...SEE THIS MOVIE, ITS' GREAT!
