Summary: Incredible
Review: The look, the music, and the cast had it together. This was a look into very different era, and it made me think.

Summary: Best Movie of the Nineties about the Seventies
Review: Velvet Goldmine is perhaps the first movie I've seen that actually captures the glam essence of the seventies. It's beautifully shot and wonderfully acted. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is perfect for this Bowie-esque role (he's so pretty), and Ewan McGregor shines as the Iggy Popish character (though sometimes looking more like the late Kurt Cobain). All and all, just a great movie which should be recognized as one of the best films of the nineties. By the way, is anyone else sick of the She's all That's out there? If so, rent Velvet Goldmine for a wonderful and healthy change.

Summary: Very dull given the subject matter
Review: The film makers obviously wanted to make a new "Citizen Kane". They failed, miserably. Ends up being like "Spinal Tap" except without the laughs. To compare the lead character to Bowie is an insult to a great musician, the music was terrible and the characters not especially interesting. Bowie remains far more interesting and intelligent even today than the lead character ever is.

Incredibly long an boring. Not a hint of irony which is remarkable given the setting. I saw it in a cinema, half the people left half way through. I managed to survive until the line "We wanted to change the world, but all we ended up doing was changing ourselves" said with NO IRONY. I had to leave at that point for fear my brain might turn into jello. If that was the message, please let your audience figure it out.

It was a great shame that the film failed because firstly it was an interesting period and secondly the cast could have been excellent (Ewan McGregor and Eddie Izzard especially).

Summary: "Electrifying"? When? How?
Review: I found it the most boring film ever. I wonder if the one who said that this is an 'electrifying' movie, has ever seen a scene from it. The only thing worthwhile in it is the wardrobe, which had a deserved Oscar nomination.

Summary: This falls into my list of my top 5 movies of all time
Review: The movie Velvet Goldmine is an amazing movie as far as I am concerned. I didn't like it the first time I watched it. But I sat down and watched it again, and for some reason it clicked when I saw it that second time. It was probably because of a combination between the beautiful cinematography, and the equisitly wonderfull and trippy story. I felt that the movie was one of the more artistic movies that I have seem lately and I am really glad that it had more than an arthouse appeal. Btw: Bowie Rocks!

Summary: Good cast - interesting premise - falls flat
Review: A good cast and an interesting premise should make for a good movie - not quite in this case. Somehow all the parts just don't quite come together and the end result is a long tedious movie. I think this film ran longer than the glam fad of the 70's did!

Summary: Best movie of my lifetime
Review: Velvet Goldmine is the best movie I have ever seen. Even homophobics could benfiet from such a film. The emotion that came from this movie was amazing! The story shows so many points of life in such an artistic way. I know that I am not doing this movie the justice that it deserves. I just not articulate enough to express the change it has made in my life. I believe that every one should see this movie. Because whether you end up loving it or hating it..... It will definitly open you up.

Summary: intellectual and moving
Review: What can I say except that I *love* this movie. It's a very emotional tale that breaks through the surface of the glam rock myth and goes behind the scenes to show the viewer what things were really like. Excellent performances from Ewan McGregor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Toni Collette, Christian Bale, Eddie Izzard...well, they all did an amazing job.

The world is changed cause you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history.

Summary: Tour de force of Heartbreak, Love and Glamour
Review: An astounding movie, full of astonishing surrealism and powerful images. Toni Colette steals the movie for me as the wife of the glam rocker, rollicking from faux English giddiness to all too American sad reflection. She is amazing!

Summary: the most amazing movie i've ever seen
Review: though i was interested in seeing this movie before, when i learned that eddie izzard had a staring role, i rented it right away. after seeing it three or four times during my five day rental, i ordered it from amazon.com so i could own it. it came in 2 days, and i've watched it religiously ever since. the movie is beautiful and each shot is like another painting to marvel at. the love story captured my heart and i've loved it ever since.
