Rating: Summary: Watch it Review: What the hell is Leonard Maltin talking about. the men in the film could have been a lot worse. They have their own issues and their own weaknesses, but they behave in the same way that quite a few men of their background would behave. That's just life and films like this are out there to make you want to make it better. This is not about demonising the men, it's about how tradition does not move fast enough to accomodate real life... the women were wonderful and sensitively portrayed, and the men were kind and vulnerable in their own way, and representatives of the very existent patriarchal order as well. Sometimes the film left you wanting a little more, but nothing's perfect. People from the middle and far east are better able to recognise the types of characters portrayed here, they grew up with them. This is by no means far fetched.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC!!!! Review: A tender romantic story told with wonderful color and sensitivity. It makes your blood boil one minute with outrage and melts you the next. Both women have done a great job. As an Indian and a lesbian this movie has a very special place in my heart. As a regular movie fanatic, this movie simply took my breath away. Enjoy!!
Rating: Summary: Do yourself a favor and see this movie... Review: ... You will love it. A deep and powerful story, beautifully told. Incredible cinematography. Wonderful performances from the entire cast. I'm not sure what movie Leonard Maltin watched for his review, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't "Fire". He oughtta check the film labels more carefully.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL ! WONDERFUL ! Review: This is one of the BEST movies i have seen. I loved the way it was made. This is a must have and I will make sure it comes to my collection ! This movies takes you away !!!
Rating: Summary: Great, exciting, funny a must see. Review: Very simply, this is one of the best movies I have seen. It is so much better than the run of the mill Hollywood movies Leonard Matlin is used to reviewing. I guess he did not like it because it did not insert a Caucasian male in it like the "Joy Luck Club." The women in the film were superb, physically as well as their acting ability. I have seen the film twice and will buy it.
Rating: Summary: Bravo Review: Everything about this movie is just great. You will enjoy every moment of this movie. I have seen it a couple of times with my friends and enjoyed it everytime.
Rating: Summary: A Beautifully Done Movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This movie is one that will touch all of your emotions. Shabana Azmi's performance is one that will stick with you long after the movie is over. As for Leonard Maltin's review, I'm to weak to comment on it. Have fun on this wonderful and insightful journey into the Hindi culture..........................
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE CENTURY'S BEST!! Review: This is one of the five best movies I've ever seen. Profound, provocative and well-made. Beautiful lesbian love story and also a thoughtful look at post-colonial India and the effects of imperialism on the culture. My heart was pounding by the end; the women made me weak. But don't take the word of a North American lesbian for it. This movie has aroused mass sentiment in India. The right wing organized anti-gay riots against the film and the leading women actors. The left and the gay movement united to defend them. Down with Leonard Maltin! He's just jealous.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: What an incredibly beautiful film, full of imagery, reality and tenderness. The interaction between the two women was mystical and lucious. A feast for the senses!
Rating: Summary: Ignore Leonard Maltin Review Review: The review by Leonard Maltin is ridiclous. It's very abrupt and does not make any sense. I am sure he has no clue of either asian culture nor did he understand the message behind this movie. I strongly feel that Amazon should override this review as I it's strongly an individual's opinion. My strong advice is to ignore his review and get your hands on this vedio. You will love every moment of it. Beautifully directed and a powerful star cast.
