Rating: Summary: Mask: Now You Know How Black Kids Feel Review: This is an incredible movie, about a deformed child whose mother runs with a biker gang and as a result, he was raised around people of this ilk. But instead of having a low sense of self, he is surrounded by people who love him. The day he enters into a new school, his mother and the gang accompany him. At first he is afraid, but the support he has from his mother (played by Cher)is more than enough to get him through. He is a bright kid who has street sense and a kind heart.
You know what is going to happen and the morning Cher comes into his room to wake him for school, only the most coldhearted can hold back the tears. This movie is about the love of life and how powerful support from peers and family can be. But this kid's handicap can nowhere compare with that of black kids who are castigated and locked out simply becuase of skin color. As a teacher myself, I recommend this movie to middle school kids as part of their "ethnic studies" requirement. They might not be able to deal with the race issue, but "Mask" will teach them the value of character, and that the old saying is correct; "The strength of criticism lies only in the weakness of the person being criticized." Think about it -- and get this movie; don't rent it, BUY it!
Rating: Summary: Awesome....completely awesome Review: This is one of the few films that celebrate the human spirit and humanity as a whole. The extraordinary courage of Rocky to lead a normal life when death stares him in the face is amazing. And the fact that this is a true story makes it all the more appealing.
Rating: Summary: I saw this when I was 11 and i bawled my eyes out. Review: This is one of the most touching films i have ever seen. When i first saw it i cried my little eyes out.
Rating: Summary: Best movie I've ever seen! Review: This is truely one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. It's wonderful how so many people supported Rocky, and how he always seemed to be happy. This movie is truely a must see!
Rating: Summary: tear jerking spectacular Review: this movie could well have been rated as an other simple true story, but cher brings this movie sweeping with emotion of love and hate to the eighties, the finale caused me to cry, it was as realistic as if you were there, watch this
Rating: Summary: Sensitive and moving Review: This movie is based on a true story about a boy with severe facial deformities. What makes the movie great is not just the amazing and inspiring character of Rocky himself, but the acting and supporting cast, with a few touches of genius on the part of the director. For example, in one scene at a carnival, Rocky looks into a funhouse mirror, which would distort a normal face, but on Rocky the distortion makes his face appear normal. It's one of those spine-tingling Oh! moments. Cher, as Rocky's mother, proves that she has good acting abilities. There is very little sentimentalizing or romanticizing, to good effect. For example, friends of the family are mostly bikers who like to drink and party, and who are sometimes rude and crude. Even the mom indulges in some vices, which makes one wonder if Rocky's deformity might have been caused by the mother's drug or alcohol use. The film doesn't cover anything up, and yet it succeeds in showing love and character. It's a good family film that even the kids can watch.
Rating: Summary: This movie is the best I've seen in a long time. Review: This movie is one of the best performances I have seen Cher in. It is very heartwarming and sad. It deserves 4 stars.
Rating: Summary: The Inside Matters Review: This movie touches my heart and makes me feel lucky to be me. When you are watching, this movie puts you in Rocky's place and asks you if you can be that brave.
Rating: Summary: Not Accurate! Review: This movie... oh my gosh. Rocky is my step-brother (was). It makes my dad seems like a total jerk! And it makes Rusty a saint. When in reality she was keeping my dad(Roy) from seeing him. My dad also had another child by Rusty who contracted aids. I saw an actual picture of Rocky and I felt soo bad for him. But this movie is aweful how it portrays my dad and rusty. So keep that this in mind. All rusty really wanted was to make money and publicity. My dad(roy) actually wanted a relationship with him, and he tried to be there but wasnt given the opportunites.
Rating: Summary: The best movie i have evre seen Review: This was a great movie. I cant belive that Rocky could deal with all of his problems the way he did. This movie shows just how cruel kids can be today
