Rating: Summary: Mask reveals inner beauty. Review: Mask reveals that the inner beauty is what really counts and makes a person beautiful or handsome. Cher gives an awesome performance as a single mother with a son who has a life threatening disease that causes him to be severely deformed in the face. But Cher helps him to see beyond that by showing love and support in everything her son, Rocky does(schoolwork, baseball cards and motorcycles). He also helps her to see that her drug addiction limits her true inner beauty and eventually she quits and becomes clean. Every scene that they play together truely reveals the raw emotion between a mother and teenage son. The scene where his mother "talks" to his headache to make it go away is truely Oscar worthy material. It is rare to find a movie where a mother and teenage son bond and work together as a team with one common goal----to remove the "mask" and reveal the inner beauty in all of us.
Rating: Summary: Face Value. Review: One of the best films of the 1980's, or anytime. Wonderfully moving true story of Rocky Dennis, a young man suffering from a disfiguring disease, and the immesurable courage he displayed. This film will make most of us, with our daily "problems", feel like the superficial, shallow, self-pitying , contemptuous, overly image -conscious, ungrateful beings that some of us (I'm just as guilty) often are. Cher is miraculous in this film, playing the all too human, but ultimatley incredibly brave Rusty, Rocky's mother. She gives a performance that, in its' "reality", is second to almost none of recent memory. Equally moving is Eric Stoltz as Rocky, the young man who does not let the cruelty that we humans sometimes inflict upon each other for being "different" get in the way of his experiencing the already elusive joys of life and love. His "Rocky" displays more courage, insight, and forgiveness than most of us could conjure up under the best of conditions. I truly feel the players were guided by the spirit of Rocky, and, in that, were dedicated in letting his incredible spirit and bravery shine through, without them being overly self-absorbed about giving a great "performance". And it shows, as here, they are all at their best. Just a superb movie about a superb human being who wasn't here for long, but who's life taught many. I have actually popped in this film when feeling in need of an attitude adjustment after drowning in pools of self-pity. It always works. Try it the next time you're cursing the heavens for that zit on the end of your nose. Most movies are merely entertaining, at best.(Even that's becoming a rarity.) But it's not often that a movie is not only a flawlessly crafted entertainment experience but, also, a sometimes life altering lesson. "Mask" is such a film. You will be inspired by the noble life of Rocky Dennis... a BEAUTIFUL person.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: One of the best reality check movies i've ever seen
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: Personally i can't stand Cher's singing, but she's fared better as an actress. Mask is probably one of the best and most moving films i've ever seen. No matter how many times i watch it Rocky's courage and Rusty's (Cher) devotion to her son whatever her own problems, never fails to reduce me to tears every time. A must for any fan of a good tearjerker or a excellent film.
Rating: Summary: A tale of inner beauty Review: Rocky Dennis, the central character in this movie, proves without a doubt that true beauty lies within. Although he was hideously deformed, he possessed a beautiful soul and attempted to always reach for the stars, despite the considerable obstacles standing in his path. Although he was not destined to have a long life, his story and his heart will live on forever through this movie. A true tearjerker and a lesson to us to keep dreaming and always try our hardest. Wonderful. This movie deserves more than five stars.
Rating: Summary: One of the VERY FEW TIMES a movie has made me cry!!! Review: The courage this kid has growing up with this hideous deformity, and how his character is such that he's able to overcome it, I was overwhelmed. This is a great film to watch if you're ever feeling sorry for yourself about something trivial. You'll realize just how blessed you actually are. The funny thing is, as this movie progressed, the less I even noticed the kid's deformity --- I'd grown to like and respect him that much! This was a wonderful, very moving film!
Rating: Summary: Cher at her best! Review: The first time I saw this movie, I did not really want to see it because it had Cher in it, and I never cared for her. After the movie, I have loved her ever since. Unbelievable performance! This movie is great for anyone who struggles with inferiority complexes about their "looks" as practically everyone in this country does. Rocky, in spite of his horrible deformity, actually begins to look kind of cute as you go through the movie, due to his great personality and outlook! It makes you realize that "personality" truly does determine how a person looks to other people--and not so much the physical appearance. I highly recommend this movie!
Rating: Summary: The Funniest Movie (and face) I've Ever Seen. Review: There is only 20 words i can think of to describe "mask" - funniest looking kid in the world. Rent it, or buy it, just to see his face. Oh my god.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie Review: This is a movie that everyone should see. It has excellent performances by Cher, Eric Stoltz and Sam Elliot. Its about a boy with facial deformities and how he has to struggle with his disease, as well as the regular trials and tribulations of adolescence. It's really powerful and portrays things in a very realistic light....love, friendship, family, discrimination and bullying. For example the real feelings and emotions Rocky has and how even though his mom loves and protects him, she isn't perfect either. The movie focuses on making the best out of the hand life deals you, with drive and determination and the support of your friends and family.... Watch this movie, it is very powerful and moving.
Rating: Summary: Hell Of A Movie Review: This is a very powerful, and compelling movie about a boy with a disfigured face. With excellent performances by Cher, and Eric Stoltz. This movie deserves a good five stars.
