Rating: Summary: Still A Great Film,...But ...... Review: I just purchased this DVD again "The Directors Cut"although the added scenes and the Peter Bogdanovich interview are fantastic Bruce Springsteen replacing Bob Seger as the core sountrack singer SUCKS!!!!Bob Seger added punch, drive, and a helluva lot more emotion.Springsteen playing in the background is only an annoyance.I like Springsteen but Seger Belongs on this film....I'll watch this latest DVD edition for the extras(scenes&interview)but for a night at the movies..It'll most certainly be Me,Cher, and BOB SEGER!

Rating: Summary: This movie is Wonderful Review: I love this movie. It's one of those deep, touching movies that you can watch over and over again. Most tear-jerkers can only be watched once or twice a year. This movie can be watched anytime. It has humor and a light-touch that strikes you. Cher gives a great, oscar worthy performance. Eric Stolz is amazing. This is pretty much his best performance ever. The soundtrack is really good too. The best part in the entire movie is when his mother buys him a prostitute. That part always has me laughing and crying. It is so touching and moving. If you have never seen this movie then I recommend it, although Amazon doesn't have it in stock for DVD. Buy it on VHS or rent it. It't one of the best movies you will ever see.
Rating: Summary: Even Better Today Than In '85 Review: I originally saw this movie back in 1985 and it really moved me. I just saw it again last night and found it even more touching than the first time. It really taught me a more profound lesson this time, in that society is guilty of judging people purely by looks rather than who they are inside. I, myself am guilty of this to an extent. Mask looks at Rusty Dennis, a seriously disfigured teen, who struggles through life events that most of us take for granted everyday, like going to school without having people stare, or dating. Upon seeing this movie again the symbolism strikes me on a whole new level. Not only does Rocky represent society's judgemental side but so do his biker family members. We all assume that bikers are loser criminals with no emotions but in this film we see just how untrue that can be. They protected him like any real family with love and respect. Special credit goes to the actor's portrayal of Dozer, who speaks only a few words in the film but still manages a great performance of heart-felt compassion for Rocky that I found touching. Cher also put in a great performance for this film, as the mother struggling with her own demons, while still exhibiting a deep, protective love for her son. Parents could learn a lesson from her great aptitude for instilling confidence in a child faced against much cruelty in the world. Maybe we'd have less school violence then. Finally, on Eric Stoltz, I really think he at least deserved an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Rocky, no easy role to pull off. I worked as an extra on a film set a few years ago and got the chance to meet him. I really wanted to tell him how much I respected his performance in Mask but he pulled one of those star "ego trips" on the set so I kept my feelings to myself. I guess we have to remember that the actor really is different from the character we see on screen. All the same watch this movie, I guarantee you will take away something positive from it.
Rating: Summary: High schoolers find Mask moving Review: I recently showed Mask, based on the true-life story of Rocky Dennis, to my high school English class. Even today's teen-agers found the relationship between the disfigured Rocky and his blind girlfriend to be sweetly touching. The two sides of Rocky's biker-chick mother (in an outstanding performance by Cher) led to fruitful writing assignments about a parent struggling with addiction who can also be an incredibly supportive mother to her son. The students were also impressed with Rocky's exemplary personal qualities. Not only was Rocky Dennis an intelligent and sensitive human being who copes with his rare disease with humor and courage, he often has to "parent" his mother, and sets challenging goals for himself despite the death sentence hanging over his head. This film gives a strong message to teens (and adults) that -- despite bad examples sometimes from parents and peers -- having a strong sense of respect for oneself, nurturing long-range personal goals and healthy interests, being kind and decent to others, and maintaining a sense of humor can get us through even the worst challenges life deals us.
Rating: Summary: Modern Elephant Man. Review: I remember seing this tearjerker back in '85 on video only because I'm an Elliott fan, but quite surprisingly, ended up liking it. (-Mostly because it features Lynyrd Skynyrd on the soundtrack, actually.) A heartwarming story about the troubled life of a biker-mom (!) and her different son vs. the world. Though based on a true story, much of the action is naturally (over)played for dramatic effect. It's certainly Cher's finest moment, and Stoltz showed an acting talent he hasn't shown since. (-Apart from "The Fly 2", of course.) Stoltz's friend by the way, is that annoying kid who got neck-knifed in "Friday The 13th, Part 4". If you like movies that make you cry at the end and happy it's not your life, then you'll want this DVD for your collection.
Rating: Summary: Looking inside the people Review: I saw this film twice and I think the need to change our vision of the people around us. The important is inside not outside because outside changes with the years. The inside of us don't change and is the most important...
Rating: Summary: The Movie is Anything but Rocky Review: I swear this movie made me cry my eyes out! The acting is perfect. The story is epic. Most of all the bitter reality of the movie and the multiple subjects it deals with, without even straying fron the storyline is so amazing! I originally wached this movie because it had Cher in it. Before it was all over with I didn't realize it was Cher. It's not good because it's a Cher Movie, even though shes great in it. It's good becaus it touches your soul.
Rating: Summary: I like this movie but it is pretty sad Review: I think its pretty sad like he dies at the end.Me and my 3 other 11 year old friends watched this movie and we first couldn't look at his face because it looked so weird. And we thought he only had a mask on.But I like this film. His mum has a angry managment and takes drugs.Well but I still recomend this for all ages.
